She's a bus driver for kids. In my books, that's a positive job and a job worth keeping filled, regardless of a single inappropriate finger. Discipline, suspension, etc., sure. Firing? Brutal. That in itself is not a good example to set.

Zero tolerance for politics in public service? Ha ha.

Firing because of the finger not politically motivated? Also funny, but possibly defensible depending on terms of employment, etc., only because of the kids involved. Still needs a pretty strong separation from reality to do this, considering the language in this thread and that of the president at times on open mics, etc.

Also, why not call for the discharge of the soldiers who sent Kerry a message publicly in uniform then? Obviously they're out of line, and obviously they're dumber than posts for doing so, and shouldn't be in uniform, etc.

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=52&threadid=1952958&enterthread=y

(For the rhetoric-challenged: I wouldn't call for the reprimand of these soldiers, etc., I found both of these "political statements" pretty funny, and would like the whole world to lighten up a lot.)

I agree with you Vic.

I agree. It was funny. I laughed....but highly inappropriate.

Well maybe she didn't do it in full view of the students.

It's bull of course. The kids were obviously looking at the motorcade and not staring at the bus driver. But your obviously too hopelessly engrossed in Bush-hating to see logically.

Very lame excuse on all those that support the firing of this courageous patriotic woman.

Oh yeah its really "patriotic" to flick of the President. People really need to learn some respect, who cares if you don't like the guy, at least respect what the office stands for.

How could you say that about the office when all these years we've been played for fools?

Standards yes, insanity no.

Slap on the wrist but not firing.

How many times do you get a chance to flip off the guy that has ruined your beloved Country?

You have to leave your political beliefs at home when you go to work (excepting inherently political jobs). Period.

I disagree politically with most people at my job, but I keep quiet about it. Work is not the time or place for it.
You may live in China but I don't.
You're also habitually unemployed.

geez, your kids are far more vulgar than you have ever imagined, or did you forget what you and your friends were like at that age.

No kidding. IF any of the kids had seen it, they'd have probably told her how she was doing it WRONG, and showed her the RIGHT way to flip off the president...(obviously, since they are "publik skool" kids, their parents are too poor to send them to a private school, and must therefore be liberal democrats...who would be PROUD if their kids flipped Bush the bird...;)

You have to act a certain way at work. You agree to it when you take the job. Can you do what you want? Sure, you can do anything you want on your last day, but if you want to keep the job you can't just do whatever you want. I think you're well aware of this.

I wonder if I'd get fired if I flipped somebody off while delivering pizzas and they reported me....hmmm...yup.

Her obscene gesture was neither courageous nor patriotic. It was just plain stupid.

Of course Free Speech is "just plain stupid"

A shame how many people live here and hate free speech and the Country.

Why don't you all leave since you hate it so much???

you have the freedom to hit yourself in the head with a hammer and lick pipe mold, but just because you are free to do it doesn't mean that it isn't stupid, and doing stupid things is a perfectly legitimate reason to get fired.

No it isn't but it's a good reason to get reprimanded. Bad driving, puting the children in danger, being abusive physically or verbally are good reasons to get fired not flipping of an incompetent politician whose policies have been harmful to the nation, at least in the drivers opinion.

I agree with you on the Prez. but the finger in front of the children was wrong. Yes I have a 10 yr old and no I have never flipped someone off in front of him.

Don't worry all he needs to know he'll learn from his schoolmates.

PLEASE tell me you're just flamebaiting, because no one could be this stupid or blinded by hatred.

*Any* school employee flipping *anyone* off when on the job should be fired ON THE SPOT. Trying to factor in such nonsense as "the kids probably weren't even looking" is nothing more than sheer idiocy.

You may live in China but I don't.

And you may work at Burger King, but other people don't. Some people work in a environment or for a company that doesn't allow the discussion of politics in the work place. That doesn't make it communist. That's just your narrow minded view doing that.

Exactly. Anyone taking a job with a school system understands that they are expected as part of the job to behave in a way that does not set a bad example for the students.
