What killed Bulletstorm sales was the irresponsible Fox network and their BS claims about games "harming children". EA couldn't afford to counter the negative publicity. Duke Nukem Forever has much the same juvenile humor as Bulletstorm (and many new movies, also). So what?
Watching Fox is far more harmful to mental health in America than any PC or console game can be.
I agree with the sentiment, but well I already voiced my disdain of how it is in those two games. I could probably overlook it if I actually enjoyed playing them, but sadly that isn't true.
Duke Nukem brings me to another game though. Serious Sam. Kinda similar over the top "badass guy", and the original was great in its day, but I'm disappointed in what I've seen from the new one. It doesn't look like its really evolved any gameplay wise. This was a franchise that seemed to be begging for a big destructible physics setup, but it just looks like more of the same. That's my biggest issue.
Bulletstorm at least tried some new stuff, I didn't really enjoy them all that much, but at least its doing more than just new graphics. Duke was actually a step back from the original in gameplay, and that's my real beef with it. Serious Sam looks just more of the same to me, which actually should be fairly enjoyable, but its still somewhat disappointing.
In the vein of this discussion, a game that actually looks like it should be hugely fun is Saints Row 3.
Oh, another game that I didn't really like the story or setup/world whatever you might call it but liked the game is Gears of War. That's all about the visceral violence (the fact that you can say that about a cover shooter says something). The story was stupid, the characters are kinda meatheads (just not as insufferably so as in Bulletstorm or Duke), but I still liked it.
Another game that I think failed miserably at being mature and also at being a game is Kane and Lynch. Army of Two wasn't far off either, but it was better.
