I just started playing bulletstorm and while it is not groundbreaking, except the family fun vacation robot dinosaur you use as a weapon it is a lot of fun. My hard core gamer buddy who plays games multiple times always complains about a story in games. But for me a FPS has to be fun to play and the story is so secondary it can be as bad as an Uwe Boll movie IMO.

I would like to see a sequel, maybe that would fix the issues others had with its gameplay.

I was pleasantly surprised with the game. I picked it up just for the mindless chaos, and the leash. The story, while it's not going to win any awards, was actually pretty entertaining and I wanted to see more.

I felt it was a good story for this type of game. Deep enough that you want to know more, but not so deep any story scenes take away from the fun chaotic action.

I hope they do a sequel.

Ok, so it's called "Bulletstorm" and maybe I shouldn't try and analyze the motivations of the enemies and I should just turn my brain off and shoot things... but, let me get this story straight. You and your buddy land on a planet and the local natives who work as miners jump up and start shooting you for no reason at all. They continue to shoot you despite the fact that you clearly have better weapons than them, and you have killed literally dozens and dozens of them. Then you make your way out of the mine to leave and they decide to destroy it in the random hope that they can stop you before you leave. Then they destroy bridges, multiple miles of train track, several trains, dozens of helicopters and one gigantic mining machine trying to kill you. Why? You are leaving...? The property damage sacraficed to kill two guys is now measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars (or credits, or zorkmids, or whatever currency they use) and they still keep attacking... why? What motivates them...? Isn't someone going to be the least bit annoyed with the miners that they destroyed virtually everything in a high tech mine trying to kill two random strangers who stopped by? I can just imagine the scene when the supervisor of the mine learns that they destroyed a 300ft. mining drill bit in an effort to level the main railway bridge in the hope of stopping two random guys from escaping.

Beyond the fact that none of this makes any sense to me... it's fun. Although my framerate is barely sufficient.

Bought this game two days ago i spent 9 straight hours playing it cause it was that much fun.

The female character you chase down Triska i think her name is explains that all of these guys want any humans for revenge and another scene shows your nothing but food to them.

Game made plenty of sense to me but the end was a bit disappointing with the general still alive but it seems to conclude with him alive perhaps for a second Bulletstorm i believe.

I thought the game was fun; it is very short but for $11 or so it was fine. To be honest I'm not a fan of the unreal engine (poor interaction with the world) but anyways....

Think the engine is pretty friendly on older hardware.

Was able to play on medium at 1920x1080 and get 45-64fps on a 9800gtx 512mb.

This old card simply refuses to not play anything it seems but most of these games are console ports .

Heck iv'e been playing Duke Nukem Forever too same engine and plays just as fine.

Never said my dislike was perf related; said I didn't like how you interact with the world. Big difference.

Bulletstorm was one of the most fun games in recent history. The game did not turn a profit for the developer. This is what's wrong with PC gaming today.

I'll buy it when it's cheap. I can't bring myself to spend $60 on such a short game.

Then you must be backwards. Try a few 'modern' engines. The unreal games have nice graphics; way back to the original unreal. But like the Doom/Quake engine; interaction in the world (and maps) tend to be 'blocky'; not 'open world'.

Anyways it sounds like your taste/experience in games is rather limited. Maybe when you have a chance to play a few you might have something more interesting to add.

This is the dumbest thing I have read. This week.

Felt the same way but went to walmart looking for a copy of Medal of Honor LE and i found it for $20 .

Double the fun with Duke Nukem Forever and Bulletstorm for the price most pay for Bulletstorm being $60:D

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programing...

I really enjoyed this game. The points and the combos thing were pretty cool. While not taking over the game (like you could almost ignore them if you wanted) they rewarded your efforts for trying new ways to kill people. I found the environments and the atmosphere to pretty much be Gears of War in the first person-which is no surprise as the same developer, Epic Games was involved in both. The enemies, which were fairly easy to kill sometimes, were pretty creepy. The levels were not unique (standard hotel level, standard burned out building level, standard escape the ship level, standard sewer level, etc) but at least were varied enough so you weren't playing the same thing for 8-10 hrs. The gameplay itself was very similar to Painkiller. You basically clear out waives of enemies, upgrade your weapons, travel for a bit, and start over. Sometimes I just want a mindless shooter and not have to "level up" my wizard avatar in order to kill something. There were weapon upgrades, but they were limited enough so that I didn't have to think too much. I really enjoyed this game. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Fit my ideal play style exactly. This is an "upgraded" Painkiller, taken up a few yrs to modern times.

Kind of. For some games story should not even be a consideration. Bulletstorm is one of those games.

A lot of us FPS guys just want to shoot something, why would we need a plot for that? I know it makes it better but it is still a secondary item compared to the fun of the game.

I just finished Bulletstorm and I had a lot of fun with it, more than most FPS games these days. I cannot wait for a sequel!

The game was made for the teenage boy. That should be the end of your need to understand the story. As long as there is tits, guns, and cussing, it constitutes a good game to the target audience. If you want to pick apart a game for its story stick with the Metal Gear Solid series. They're console oriented games but oh man you can go all night with analyzing that nonsense.

but it was on console too ?? can't blame PC inudstry.
and hard reset wont make a dime either, but these types of games has not been able to do well in quite a long time. And we've all seen the reviews or played Duke Nukem...it appears most gamers today just don't want these types of games. it would have to be extremely unique...i'm thinking a new version of Descent might do ok if done right.

Painkiller and BOH were the best mindless shooters i've played in forever...well ever played, i loved the huge bosses and varied enviro's. But bulletstorm wasnt near the same kind of fun, shame they just didnt do a real PK2 instead cause the fan made PK's really suck.

Bullshit.

so i swear like a sailor... but the swearing in this game wasn't even done in a mature way. it was done in the way kids swear when they do it casually for the first time in their lives.

it was essentially "how many swear words can we cram together in one sentence?"

i'd rather play unreal tournament with the sound off and have an mp3 of just the words "shit fuck dick" on a loop the entire time.
