and what purpose does carrying cargo around do? I notice light fighters can carry 50 units, small cargo transports 5000 units...

From what I read you cannot have your planet destroyed by someone else, only you can do that. I believe they can destroy structures and you can lose resources in attacks. They also recommend that you only attack someone once per day, not to attack someone constantly, which is nice.

Should I be worried that there are 5 planets in my solar system owned by the same guy?

Well, enemies cannot destroy your buildings or take away your research. Once they are finished, they are there forever.

They can destroy your fleet and defense though. Defense usually has a 70% repair chance (free of cost) as they deactivate themselves once they are hit bad and go underground or something. But the fleet is gone once they are hit by something stronger than them.

When an enemy attacks you and wins the battle, they take away half of your resources if they have enough cargo capacity. They can never take more than 50% of your resources.

If they lose the battle or its a draw, they go back home empty handed.

And the cargo ships are very important as they carry resources around. For example, when you attack a planet, win the battle, you don't want your light fighters to be the only ships there as they only have 50 unit cargo capacity. You want to send some cargo ships with them so you can take away more resources.

A scenario is when I have 20,000 metal, and you attack me and win, you take away 10,000 metal. If you only sent 10 light fighters, that means you can take away 50x10=500 units minus the fuel cost. So you have to send 2 small cargo ships to take away the entire 10,000 metal.

Does that help any?

Oh, you hit an important point. Every time you browse through the galaxy, you spend 10 units of deterium. So when you hit the galaxy button, there goes your 10 deterium, and everytime you check the other galaxies around you, goes another 10 deterium units :)

Well, you cannot be attacked by someone who has 5 times more points than you do.

And you cannot attack someone who has 5 times less points than you do.

Google "ogame noob protection" to learn more :)

But yeah, within those rules, anyone can attack you.

available power/total power produced

Try refreshing by going to resources and hitting calculate

If that's accurate lots of your mines are running at sub 100% production.

Which means his mines are not producing at the highest potential.

pontifex: you need to keep building up the solar plant level so you can produce enough power to support your mine levels.

On the Buildings page, click on a mine to see how much power it consumes at each level. Then go to the resources page to see how much you produce at the moment and the difference is the capacity you're not using because you don't have enough power.

solar plants are ridiculously underpowered compared to the amount of energy needed for the mines and stuff.

hehe come on, don't begin bitchin' already... once you are building fleets to attack people, people are gonna hate you, just think of the pleasures of those exact moments when you take away one's resources :p
