Found this tweak online, and I figured making a registry patch file would make things easier.

What it does:
- Enables IE to make more than 2 concurrent connections to any one server.

Benefits:
- MUCH faster browsing
- Able to download up to 18 (as configured) files at once from one server.

I did that trick when I installed this install about 2 years ago. :p Thanks for the reg file tho.

Hmm, Will your patch work with Win2k?

Edit: Yeah, it does.

I just added it, my browser is no longer HTTP 1.1 compliant, I'll have to make a *.REG file that reverts it to normal state in case thats a problem.

From that page:

You're on your own notice: Increasing these defaults is a violation of the HTTP protocol, and should only be performed if absolutely necessary. Internet Explorer will load pages much, much faster, but it will be non-compliant with the HTTP1.1 specification. If you employ this tweak, you'll be making your browser nonstandard. If you don't know what this is about, or realize what you're doing ... don't try this.

Heh...what happens if you violate a protocol?? Anything at all?

Don't expect things to work all the time.

That being said, increasing the number of simultaneous downloads probably won't do anything to your computer. It might contribute to overload on some underpowered sites, though.

damn dude... that really does make things faster.. it's like the difference from going from modem to broadband..

Now.. how do I do that for Phoenix? I don't want any of my browsers to be compliant.

holy crap! I didn't expect anything to really improve, but it does work! I'm on DSL, so it was already pretty fast, but now things pop up like in less than 1 or 2 seconds everytime.

all that means is you're doing something you're not supposed to, to make your browser faster. it doesn't really mean sites won't work afterwards.

Yes, thank you for pointing out the painfully obvious.

Then what do you mean when you say "sounds like a winner"?
