Not looking good for watson at all, at best he can par 17 getting up and down from maybe 120. Cink will most likely birdie to give two stroke lead.

And that should just about do it for watson. 🙁

He could make that putt! And then cink could 3 putt and it's only a one shot lead for cink! It could happen.

well, highly unlikely

Oh ... I agree ... that was hard to see the disappointment on his face. It isn't that Cink doesn't deserve it ... but ...

The pain, you can see it. Just 3 feet less on that 2nd on the 18th and it's done. I really think it was over when that ball scooted just off the green, just tough luck for TW because he hit it so perfectly..

Cink flag hunts on 18 with a PW from 171 ... shots you how different links golf is from what we all normally play.

Wow ... Cink finishes in Style ... good for him. Fantastic tournament. Now I've got to pay the piper and do housework for the rest of the day 🙂

Holy shit, the MSNBC home page has a big headlione that reads "Watson wins British Open".

They'll take it down soon I'm sure.

No, the Masters and US Open should go to the British Open/PGA playoff format.

Why?

Other than the ridiculous US Open can you name a single sporting event on earth where they ignore the cameras, the crowds and the millions of people watching at home and decide to settle ties the next day when everybody is in work? Just one. I dare ya.

Seriously, can you imagine the riots that would occur if a Super Bowl ended in a tie and they decided to come back Monday morning? How satisfying would Wimbledon have been if Roddick and Federer left the court after 6-6 in the 5th set and finished it on Monday. A Monday playoff is the worst idea in the history of sports, that's why every other organization with an IQ over 1 has abandoned the idea and come up with a way to settle things while everyone is there. Hell, even the USGA admitted that Monday playoffs suck and have dropped them from ALL of their championships except the men's US Open. The women and the seniors both settle it on Sunday, only the men come back the next day.

I think the British Open 4 hole playoff is the perfect format. Finish the same day? Check. Chance to make up for a mistake? Check. More entertainment for the fans? Check.

We're talking about major golf here (not football), and this is the second time this year the player who played the best throughout the tournament has lost because they weren't given a chance to physically and mentally recover from their round (to a player who was given a chance to do so).

Settling majors soley to please the crowd is horseshit.

You might be the stupidest person on earth. Without the crowds there is no such thing as a major. Without TV there is no prize money. If a putt drops in the forest and there's nobody to see it does it make a sound? No! It's a freaking SPECTATOR sport zippy.

WTF are you talking about, numbnuts?

In what universe does a Monday playoff reduce weekend ratings?

Ever hear of a screen-grab? 😉 That would have been a classic.

WTF does that have to do with anything? There's a reason why the final round is scheduled for Sunday rather than Monday. There's a reason why the tennis majors schedule their finals for Saturday and Sunday. There's a reason the triple crown races are held on Saturday. There's a reason why NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs and world series games are in prime time. There's a reason why the NBA is broadcast on Sundays and prime time. There's a reason why major college bowls are prime time, holidays and weekends. There's a reason why NO major sports decide their champions on Monday mornings. Everyone on earth understands those reasons. Everyone except you.

Currently Tom Watson is undergoing an endoscopy at St. Andrews Memorial Hospital to see what temporarily caused blockage in his throat on the 18th hole. More at 11.

Really it wasn't that bad of a choke like say a pull-hook into the rough. All he did was carry the 8 iron an extra 10 feet or so, probably due to adrenalin. I've seen far, far worse on closing holes (monty in the US open, Norman, pick 'em, ect) and even then the ball bounced like a mofo on those hard greens and spilled over. LOL @ Asszinger's comment " this means everything to Cink and would have been just another major tournament to Watson", huh?, might have THE biggest upset in all of ANY sport for a 59 year old to win it..
