The movie theaters are going to get their money one way or another. If they can't make it at the concession stands they will make up for it at the ticket window. Either way you pay.

Unless you sneak into the movies.

for a family of 4, it's going to be a bit more than $10.
Hmm 4 people x $12 per ticket + popcorn = ???

How about you assholes stay home. Daddy is going to the adult massage place to have his penis massaged by chinese sex slaves.

Soon the TSA (Theater Snacking Administration) will be doing pat-downs for unauthorized materials. :p

I hate steak house's that waaaay overcharge for their steaks, so when I go to a fancy one I take my own with me. Fuck them for charging 3-4 times what the steak's worth.

That's entirely different. I go to the theater to watch a movie, not to buy snacks. You go to a restaurant to eat their food, not watch their movies.

Do you also think that you shouldn't be allowed to bring any other entertainment on a plane, aside from the in-flight services? I mean, you did pay for a ticket, you should be restricted to only what they offer, right? Right? How about earphones; should you not be able to use your own, but instead be required to pay for theirs?

Why go to a movie theater at all? Take your ticket/candy money and invest in a decent home theater set-up. That's why movie theaters are dying. It's not the shitty movies and it's not the overpriced concessions, it's the simple fact that the movie theater experience isn't what it used to be.

Most theatres allow it...that is until it gets abused. Bringing in loud or stinky stuff and worst things that get all over the place is not fair to others.

There is a reason Disney doesn't sell gum in any of their parks.

Well there's your problem, the idea of taking kids to movies is absolutely ridiculous. You think your six year old cares if they have to wait an extra couple months to see Toy Story 10 on DVD?

When I go to a movie it's with my wife or dad, brother etc. Six bucks for a jumbo popcorn (w/free refill) and a buck and a half for the giant refillable cup they sell. OH NOES $7.50 AND I COULD BUY IT AT WALMART FOR A DOLLAR WHATARIPOFF!! RAGERAGERAGE!!!11!!!

Sneaking food into movie theater is for kids. Sneaking hundreds dollars worth of booze on a cruise ship is more fun. :)

Rage not found in this thread drama queen. No theater in my area and probably not yours either sells a "giant refillable cup" for $1.50. Concession prices are a rip off because they know people like to eat a snack while they watch the movie. Up until recently people had to either pay the exorbitant prices or go without. Now there's a choice. I have a nice home theater system but I still enjoy going to a movie theater with my girls to watch a new movie as do they. I also like going on dates with my wife to get out of the house and a movie is a great way to do that. I can afford to buy candy at the concession but that's no reason to just throw money away if I have another option.

Besides...who the eff can eat a jumbo popcorn AND gets it refilled in the same movie besides the morbidly obese?

Actually I was thinking of using my rectum. I bet I could fit like 30 Mike & Ikes up there, and I can pop one out whenever I get hungry... like an upside down Pez dispenser.

I laughed waaaay more than I should've at this. Hahahahahaha!

Negative. For years Regal sold 32 oz "regalators" which you could get refilled for a buck. They don't sell them any more, but still honor them (although it went up to $1.50).

I get the Jumbo popcorn and usually split with whoever I'm going with. $6 + $3 for two drinks = $9. Rip off not found.

Movie theater revenue is up on average...

Revenue is up because ad dollars are way up. Attendance is down in most places, flat in the best case scenario. And by increasing ads all they're doing is putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. Every extra ad they cram in before the movie just drives more and more people out of the theaters and makes home theaters seem like a better option. Movie theaters are going to follow the same trend as video game arcades. As the home experience gets better the public experience gets worse. The death of theaters will not be as quick as the death of arcades, but it's just as assured.

Amateurs.

I've gone to the movie theater with a couple of pizzas - a large for me and the two people with me, and a personal sized box on top. "You can't take that in there." "Sure I can, I'm from <pizza restaurant.> I brought you some pizza too. Here you go." "Awesome, thanks!"

I haven't been to the regular theater in years. The only thing I go to now is the drive-in theater. And, prices there are excellent. I can buy a large pizza for $9. I can get a large fries, which is a 32oz cup filled with the best french fries that I've ever found, for $1.50 or $2. Excellent nachos. A humongous family sized popcorn is pretty cheap. Tickets are $6 per adult, kids 11 and under are $2. And, you get to see TWO movies for that price. My favorite movie night last summer was Despicable Me, followed by The Expendables. $25 covered the movie, drinks, and snacks for me and my wife.

There used to be a walgreens right next to the theater in the mall, but it closed. That theater sucks anyways though.

Pssshhh. My girlfriend and I used to sneak 40s into the theater pretty regularly.

Sometimes we sneak candy in, but, I don't mind paying for popcorn, candy, or sodas there. Theaters don't make very much money off ticket sales, so they have to make money somewhere else. Plus, they've actually got very reasonable prices on popcorn and soda too. For $10 I can get a large popcorn, large soda, and a box of candy. I don't mind a bit of overpriced junk food once in a while if it helps a nice theater stay in business.

Anyone ever see a sign posted at the movie theater that says you CANNOT bring in your own food/drink?

I haven't.

Funny since we take food and drinks to games all the time. They only thing they ask is that we unscrew the top of the containers if they are not sealed so that they can smell for alcohol. Alcohol is the only thing they won't let you bring in for the most part. That and glass bottles or aerosols.

30 years ago, when I first went in the Navy, me and a couple of my buds would take the bus from Mayport (Florida), up into Jacksonville. Only cost ~$1 each way, and the choices for entertainment were much greater.

Usually every week or so, we'd hit up the $2 theater, where they'd show a couple comedy movies (or blooper movies....remember, this was long before TV shows like America's Funniest Home Video).

Always, before we hit the theater, we'd stop at the liquor store down the street, and pick up a couple 1/2 pint bottles of booze, and slip 'em in our socks, where the legs of our jeans would hide them. Go into the theater, get an extra large soda. Drink ~2"-3" off the top, pour the booze in there, stash the bottle. During intermission, go drain the bladder, buy another XL soda, and repeat.

For some reason, it made the movies so much funnier than they already were! :awe:

Target sells movie candy also & is usually pretty cheap. Hit up either store before the theater & you're set.
