You (and about 99% of current NFL players) obviously lack one of the qualities that drew so many to be fond of Brett ...

CLASS !

What about not liking Farve means that I lack class?

I'm not sure, but I think a better word to use would have been respect. Like him or not, you must admit he was a talented player.

It's how I feel about Kobe. He's a dickwad and I wouldn't mind if he got a career-ending injury his next game. I'd probably cheer. But I respect that he's a very talented player.

I acknowledge that he has been successful and has had a HOF career. However, I still do not like him and I think it is OK to not like everybody.

MotionMan did you ever stop to think that Favre made all those so-called "great" WR a tad bit better than they were really supposed to be? A quarterback can make an entire team look fantastic.

You still have not said WHAT you do not like about Brett Favre at all.... or did I miss that somewhere?

No. That never entered my mind. I will have to ponder that a little.

OK, I'm done.

I still do not like him.

is it the "gunslinging" aspect? If thats the case, its not that you don't "like" him, you just don't think he was as great as people make him out to be. There's a very large difference there. I can not see how/why anyone wouldn't LIKE Favre. Not care or respect for his playing style? Fine. I can (somewhat) see that.

I do not listen to interviews with athletes or read about their childhood, etc., because I honestly do not care what they have to say or who they are. I only care about what they do on the field. Thus, to me, Farve is what he does on the field. Since I do not like, care for or respect his playing style, I do not like him.

Is it shallow? Yep. But that does not change the fact that that is how I look at athletes.

No you don't "not like him" you don't like his playing style. see the difference? To not LIKE somebody you have to know that person (even at least in a 3rd party way we "know" the personalities of athletes". By saying you "don't like HIM" is not exactly correct in my eyes... you "don't like HIS STYLE of play".

(and as for his on the field accomplishments, I don't see how you can't respect some of the stats and figures he has posted over his career).

"Lucky"? You honestly think that a quarterback in the NFL can survive 17 seasons, 16 of which he threw for at least 3000 yards by tossing up "lucky" passes?

I'm still stuck on this "top flight" receiving core Favre had his entire career. I;m chalking MotionMan up to trolling on this one, he even (GASP!) vaguely hinted at it in an earlier post.

I am not trolling. As much as the cheeseheads cannot understand how I could not LOVE their beloved Farve, I cannot understand how they can love him so much.

It is called a different point of view.

I'm not sure, but I think a better word to use would have been respect. Like him or not, you must admit he was a talented player.

Perfectly acceptable. I wonder if Midnight Rambler actually meant what I think he meant though. I may have twisted his words.

Either way,

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say "I don't like Brett Favre"
What exactly don't you like?

Another term for "gunslinger" is "lucky". It seemed that his stats (especially his INTs) sucked when he did not have absolutely top-flight WRs to throw to (See Also Culpepper, Dante).

MotionMan

Last year he had the highest completion percentage of his career (and hadn't thrown less interceptions for over a decade.)

:cookie:

He had three good and healthy WRs last year (and a HUGE running game).

MotionMan

MotionMan

So, then you're faulting him for not performing better the previous few years without a huge running game and healthy receivers to rely on and spread the field...you can't have it both ways.

Joe Montana put up All-Pro numbers with average WRs and no running game in 1981 and 1983. Why? Because he was not a "gunslinger". He knew when and where to throw regardless of the talent around him. Montana did not rely on broken plays and lucky bounces to build his legend.

MotionMan

You're comparing apples and oranges now. Not only did montana have some bad years, as favre has recently recently, but montana is considered the greatest qb of all time by many respectable minds. Favre is not a quarterback god as much as a football god, and qb elite. Fifteen straight seasons without missing a start will not be matched for a very very long time...all while playing at an elite level most of the time. I thought he should have hung it up a few years ago, but he proved people wrong, and that wasn't just because he had a better supporting cast. Most would probably peg him at 5-8 in the list for the greatest qb's.

You're full of crap.

The running game they had was lucky at best. Their starter, Morency, turned out to be a chump. The backup also sucked. They had a 3rd string runner who hadn't produced much in years, and suddenly he remembers how to run. Their line did a good job for the running game, but it's absurd to suggest that they had a "huge" running game.

The only way you could have less class is if you were a lawyer.
