the thing i see happening and it will be unfortunate, is that the expectations are going to be very high. he will never be able to live up to the career favre had. i think that alot of packer fans will be mad at him when he does not put up favres numbers in his first season. i will b happy if he can put up a sold season but i obviously dont expect his to put up pro bowl numbers.

Except for not winning a championship, it was one of his best ever. Retiring now is surprising, given how well he and his team did last year, and how wide open the NFC is.

I guess it makes that NFC championship game a little easier to swallow since the Giants went on to win the Superbowl. Better to lose to a winner than lose to a loser.

He had an amazing season. Certainly better to go out on this one than last year.

I dunno about that too much. Packer fans are pretty understanding and smart and borderline forgiving. NOBODY in WI expects Rodgers to come in and be Favre II that can assure you.

yup. i really dont feel taht bad about loosing to the giants anymore since they went on to stop the unstoppable patriots. it really makes me feel good that they even kept it as close as they did in that game. i am looking forward to next yet with the talent that they have.

i will give you that the fans here are pretty forgiving, but after this last season i think the expectations for enxt season will be alot higher. that is alot of pressure for rodgers. i hope he is a great QB, and hope he can be the next favre, but i really dont expect it. i just worry that some of the other fans will think that. i will whole heartidly say that packers fan are some of the best. they will love the team through good seasons and bad.

well, considering what they know now, they will be more forgiving than most teams. they know that rodgers is not favre. they'll root for him just like they did for favre because he is a packer.

dems some loyal fans up der.

i for one am torn as well, by his leaving. on one hand he had a great career and i wanted to see him win one more super bowl.

on the other hand. I have his topps stadium club rookie card 😀😀 HOF here we come!! (as well as a nice chunk of change for his card if i ever decide to sell it lol)

We HAVE loved them through thick and thin. Thats well documented no question. I think Rodgers will get a fair shake around here... he'll have unimaginable pressure for sure, but I think he's a pretty level headed kid after spending years with Favre. From watching/reading interviews I think he "gets it" now more than ever. He played well when called upon thats for sure. Was it stellar? No. But it wasn't his office.

McCarthy is the key here... lets see how good of a coach he really is. Not just with Xs and Os but with dealing with the players and situation at hand.

Gonna be a fun year.

it really will be a fun year. i wil admit i am more excited for next season now just to see what this team is capable of. i will agree we HAVE loved them. that is one thing i love about being a packer fan. i will also agree he stepped up in the dallas game and that was alot of pressure to come in to. lol. the more i read your posting the more i agree with you andi am changing my mind about the fans and him. i think he will at least get a fair chance to prove himself, if not a open arms welcoming.

According to a voicemail left with espn's Chris Mortenson by Favre, just as the story was breaking, Favre says its 'not about randy moss', and is about the overall mental wear and tear over 17 years of trying to be a champion, and the time put in to preparing for another season.

Favre says it has nothing to do with Moss, but he was recently rooting for the Pack to sign him, and his retiring now suggests that it did have to do not getting a player like Moss imo. Net net, if they actually had signed Moss, there's no way Favre would be retiring, and he'd probably be very excited about going into this season.

Mark my words, the second Aaron Rodgers is announced as starting quarterback in Lambeau on opening day the crowd will go NUTS for him. He will have the FULL support of the state and Packer fans worldwide out of the gate (that is unless he starts REALLY sucking... but even mediocrity people will back him).

We're the Packers, not the Raiders/Vikings/Dallas/Jets/<insert jackass team here> 🙂


 
I have a similar feeling now than I did when Cal Ripken Jr. retired. Football just lost a little magic.

he has been considering retirement for the last few years. this is a good year to do it.

 
This is a very sad day not only for the Packers but for the whole NFL. He is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and sill surely be missed across the league and the country. :brokenheart:

i am only 22 now, so i was a bit young around then, and i was not all that into football when i was that age. i can really believe it though knowing the fans in this state.

Not about Moss my ass. The story breaks the day Moss signs a contract with the Pats *and* moss' agent says he could have gone for more money...hmmm...where would that counter offer come from?

I believe it was about Moss, who decided that playing 1-2 seasons for the Packers, Favre retiring then having to deal with the ? of Rodgers wasn't a good enough proposition to being with Brady and having a good shot at being a champion in the next 3 years.
