Not saying it's right or wrong, it is what it is. We have something they don't, and they want it. Improving one's life situation is, in my opinion, the strongest possible motivator anyone can have. Some of these people leave homes and loved ones, risk their very lives just to make it to the border, and we think some little fence or wall is going to stop them at the end of their journey?! Not likely. Don't underestimate them.

Another poster, said it best, "What a waste of money". Will this war on illegal immigration = war on drugs? Time will tell, I suppose. Now what was that quote about those that don't know history are doomed....

Anyways, good luck with that wall. I'm sure it will make someone some money...probably not the taxpayers though.
If we can stem the 1.2 million a year flooding our borders to about half that, then we've just made up the money in healthcare costs to hospitals alone. Yes, the walls will not completely prevent them but it will bottleneck them to areas that we can patrol to intercept them.

Then we need to address the other 2 parts of the puzzle, business hiring illegals w/out penalty and a Mexican gov't who can't create jobs for their own working class.

Mesa has turned into a crime infested slum populated by illegals?

Did I not get the memo?

About half of my neighbors do not speak English.

<--- lives in Mesa

u see my point then, Theres a serious Invasion going on here in our City.

Over 77% of the population in Mesa is white.

The hispanic population grew 4.8% in the last 6 years.

Some invasion.

Exactly.. those are documented #s... He's talking about undocumented immigrants.

I voted for Bush, but think this is all a complete sham!

Putting National Guards on the border with no authority to stop the illegals crossing the border? Yeah, that will do alot of good!
Building a 370 mile fence? That's akin to New Orleans building sand castles to stop the flood waters from coming in.

As far as I'm concerned, this is all posturing so that people will allow his guest worker program to go through.
According to a study by the heritage foundation, his guest worker program would ultimately result in approx. 100 million immigrants in the next 20 years! link

If he is really serious about this, he would order all companies to submit proof that all it's employees are legal.
Take away the jobs, and the flow will be reduced dramatically.

Clinton did that in 2000 (1900 businesses prosecuted), and a record 1.5 mil illegals (according to PEW) came in that year. Around 1.2 is projected this year. Clearly even prosecution within our current legal framework won't work. But I sure as hell bet that a new law requiring all businesses to use a national job database (tied to Soc Sec #) would put a major plug in it. ;)

That is one very big "if" my friend. And to my point, I don't think it will help in the long run, maybe short term. As far as healthcare costs go, I'd like to see some hard numbers on a statement like that. Not from you of course, I'm just seeing this particular "fact" being thrown around without much substantiation. Sure it will have an impact, but to what extent is debatable.

Maybe. It's not like they don't know the hot spots now.

That one is hard. Business is business and money talks. I think this one is the dirty little secret that neither Dems or Reps want to deal with.

and a Mexican gov't who can't create jobs for their own working class.

How is his part of our puzzle? Sure it impacts us, but we don't really have any say so here do we?

Couldn't we invade Mexico if we found evidence that the Mexican government was involved?

Like you are obviously doing? I guess the work you are doing is clean and safe enough to keep a laptop with you so you can post on ATOT while out in the field, eh?

Did it as a kid during the summers.

Oh, and are you saying that only people who work in the fields are only deserving of being called hard working?

Why is it dumb? What's the purpose of the military?
