COTTONWOOD -- Cottonwood Police Chief Jody Fanning released a dramatic eight-minute video Friday showing the Cottonwood Walmart brawl and shooting from March 21. The often-chaotic video was recorded by a dash cam installed in one police supervisor's vehicle.

Fanning said he has "never seen anything like it."

Initially, four officers arrived at the store after Walmart called police after Gaver family members allegedly pushed an employee against the wall when confronted in a restroom late that night.

Four more officers arrived after the struggle for Officer Jeremy Daniels' gun after Daniels had been shot in the thigh.

One officer was wounded, one of the attackers was shot and killed.

"You're hitting children, sir. You're being a Nazi."

Considering this took place in AZ, at a walmart, i'm actually surprised none of the civilians were armed.

I'm also surprised that the cops brawled with them for 3 minutes without resorting to deadly force. It's like it was an episode of Bumfights - popo' edition.

Who the hell is training these cops that the best way to deal with a large group of angry people fighting is to drive their cruiser up 10ft from them and walk up and immediately get in people's faces and get physical? What do they expect from people who start fights in wal mat bathrooms with employees?

I have no idea what the hell happened in the melee but it was very very dumb for those two cops to approach all those people and basically walk right into the middle of that fight.

I'm not so sure they didn't try before hand, it looks like it got way over their heads about 3 seconds after the altercation starts. I mean one cop got shot with his own gun, lol. I bet he gets a medal.

That should be an automatic firing. If you get hurt with your own gun you are incompetent plain and simple.

I'm pretty surprised none of them seemed like they knew how to fight, cops included, given how quickly the fighting started.

This 100%. These cops would have been hella more justified shooting someone than in the Scott shooting.

To their credit, the cops were the most effective fighters of the bunch. That isn't saying all that much though and they weren't exactly kicking ass.

And they had night sticks and tasers. I am guessing the jackets hurt the effectiveness of the tasers, though.

what a clusterfuck

If i read one of the stories right, the cop shot his partner in the leg while shooting the other guy.

The weapons and tactics that we deployed, they didn't work. When we shoot them with Tasers, they have been taught to roll on the ground and break the wires so the electricity stops.

This is why we need SWAT guys. The regular weapons and tactics were just not enough for these highly trained and sophisticated walmart brawlers. If they had only been able to call in a few tanks, maybe a tactical airstrike, this would've been cleared up without any officer injuries.

That's usually how most fights are though. They're not pretty.

I'm a large person, I try to avoid confrontation if I can. Besides not knowing who's CC'ing, carrying a blade etc. it's depressing to know that a stupid scuffle can end someone's life.

SWAT is too busy serving people

You are such a raging moron.

The cop clearly walks up and says "We need to separate these people and talk to them" , at which point one of the inbred fuck nuggets starts throwing punches.
People who instigate fights and are continuing to act confrontational and irrational do not get to set the terms of how and when the police are going to talk to them, after an assault and criminal complaint has already come in and officers are already on scene.

What the fuck were those initial responders doing? Get out of vehicle, get in a fist fight while outnumbered at least two to one?

Have to say, your police forces are pretty shitty.

About the fighting family:

Five Gavers were arrested by police and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on a variety of charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, hindering prosecution and resisting arrest.

The family was well-known in Boise, where at least three members played in a Christian band outside an Albertson's supermarket, where they would post a sign with a Biblical verse. The band was known as Matthew 24 Now, an apparent reference to the Second Coming.
They are just good Christians impatiently waiting for Jesus! It looks like one of them is going to get the chance to do so.

Lol, no... he dead.
