He needs to purchase an installation of Windows as well... Generally speaking, building your own pc is only cheaper when you're ready to upgrade it a couple years down the line. That's when the cost savings become immense.

Also, with hard-drives at their current prices and new video cards being released soon, now's an especially bad time to build a pc. Although you could argue prices on RAM have never been better.
I posted an eBay link for a WD 500GB for $86. That's a gigantic deal compared to newegg's $80 for 60GB.

Again, the IGP xFires with the HD6850 I linked and the build stays UNDER $600 WITH THE MONITOR. It's not about performance as much as it is budget. If the guy had $1000, i'd have him firing up GTX570s and 2600Ks all over the place.

And we've posted builds that are under 600 with a SnB. He doesn't need an i7 2600K, the i3 will outperform the entire Llano line up. I'm going to guess 1)the OP doesn't care about power savings, and 2) doesn't want to deal with the hassle of a 'dual' video card set up. The i3 is a better buy.

Just wanted to add some info about SWTOR. For the beta (likely similar in size at this point) the install was ~20gb. The game only used 2 cores.

an amd x4 @ 2.8 ghz w/ gtx 465 was running 1920x1080 @ medium settings pretty decent. 30 fps in busier areas up to 40s in less populated areas. I ran amd x6 @ 4ghz w/ gtx 470 (SLI isn't working atm) at 1920x1080 everything maxed out except for AA (not currently in beta) and busy areas dipped as low as 30s but typically ran around in the upper 40s low 50s.

What do you mean by cost savings become immense? Are you saying that in the future I will be spending more money?

The next time you build a pc, years from now, you will already have most of the components which you'll carry over. Case, power supply, dvd drive, hard-drive...etc.

So you buy only a cpu, motherboard, video card, and possibly RAM. And that's it.

But again, that's years from now when the latest SWTOR expansion pack is out. :D

Man you guys are going crazy for a SWTOR build, it's not RAGE after all :p

I would think for playing such a game you'd want a decent quality and sized monitor, unforgettably that will drive up your budget a bit. The thing with monitors though is that you keep them a long time so it would be worth it to spend a little extra on one.

Y'know...OP, what are the specs of your Macbook Pro? I assume that you've been playing games using a Windows emulator like Parallels. Emulators always cause a performance drop. If your Macbook is good enough, you could just install Windows 7 on it with Bootcamp, and that would be a much less expensive option.

You are going to play ToR and you are given a whole lot of advice, and noone asked you any of the most important questions, meh.

First off- Are you a progression raider, top tier pvp player, normal raider, heavy pvp player, casual raider/pvp er or just a casual single player focused type of person? Everything else everyone else is talking about is blowing smoke until you narrow down what type of player you are. Depending on where you fall on the spectrum it is going to greatly impact where you want to spend your dollars. Depending on where you fall it is possible that dropping a $100 on a NIC would help you more then an extra $100 on a graphics card(before people go off on that comment, consider how many thousands of hours you have playing MMOs before you argue ;) ).

SSD is a waste for this game, you have the initial load times which are a bit long, after that everything actually loads quite quickly.... errrr, so I heard anyway ;)

Anyway, what type of player are you going to be on the game, post that information and I'll get back to you on what it is you should be looking for.
