I think I'm going to change my opt-in information to my 4400+ X2 / 7950 GT relic of a system. someone mentioned that Blizzard will likely avoid OCed systems due to fear of instability. I could provide non-OC information with my gaming rig, but I think it's better to try to trick Blizzard with the more ancient system.

does the SC2 beta have DX11 support or is that only expected in Diablo 3?

For some reason I wasn't able to submit my computer settings with the little blizz tool months back when the opt-in started. Probably just a router setting and I was too lazy to figure it out. Re-downloaded the tool a couple hours ago and it worked just fine, odd. Crossing my fingers to get in later when they inevitably expand the beta testing pool. Doubt it'll happen though, I like many others have yet to get into a beta and I don't it changing for SC2.

This is the first closed beta I have ever gotten into. Well, it's the only one I ever cared about too. So I thank my Blizzard overlords... ;)

Well..

Needless to say I pre-ordered D3/SC2 AND have enough money left over to buy the next 2 expansions for SC2 all because I got selected to join the beta

Did you guys not read my post? there is a link to a stream of the game 24/7 by starcraft method. Team Liquid also has a stream going all the time. You can post whatever you want about the game.

24/7 huh?
Thats funny cuz its been offline every time I checked it.

OK, just watched a few matches at Huskystarcraft.

First impressions: Its an aweful lot like SC1. Seems to be relatively little strategy and lots of action. If you memorize the most efficient patterns and click really fast you will probably win.
The finished product is likely to be a little more complex than just that, but from what I saw its basically Starcraft in 3D. Not complaining, just stating I think this is more evolutionary than revolutionary.

Just watched a few more. Same deal. Be brutally fucking efficient and spam basic units and you will win. So far dude is 11/0 today and all he does is mass produce Zealots. His buddy is almost as good and masses with Marines. The only "strategy" they used was making a gate and warping near the enemy. But that was totally pointless based on the size of the map. I think he did it just cuz he was bored waiting for the opponent to do something. He's going easy on them and still stomping like mad.

I hope that's not the case. As fun as SC1 was back in the day, I prefer a rock/paper/scissors approach similar to Company of Heroes.

there are several reasons for this:

1) people need to learn SC2
2) those who are godly at SC1 will be stomping in SC2, almost regardless of who they play
3) things get more interesting when you play someone of the same skill level. till the matchmaking sorts things out, i imagine there will be lots of stomps.

i was watchin one guy play and he totally stomped. it was no fun. i switched over to someone else and that game was much more interesting :)

I got in, played last night. Was fun. It's definitely SC1 evolved, but it still has an independent flavor.

Is their some signup you need to do other than opting in on your bnet account page?

Make sure to download the system spec report utility and submit your system specs to Blizzard.

Oh really?

So if i flash nadeshiko with a i7 980 Gulftown, i have a better chance at getting a beta key?

If they dont approve me.. im gonna laugh...
My cpu hasnt even hit retail yet. :X

I don't see how that would be relevant to them. they want to test for ave system stability, so they need a wide range of capability; and Blizzard wanting to hit the largest market, would be far more interested in performance on lower-spec machines.

They've always designed games to perform on low end systems anyway.

Heh... Get this:

Apparently, the starcraft beta participation chances are determined by your system specs that were harvested by that stupid program that they have you run during beta opt-in. Basically when I ran it back then, it "determined" that my CPU is running at 2.5GHz even though it's running at 3.1GHz, and it also determined that my default CPU speed is 1.7GHz even though it isnt... It also saved the information from my old video card that I no longer have which despite being a very good card will not run SC2 at 1080p with all max settings. Despite the fact that my system specs were recorded incorrectly, this apparently doesn't matter for Blizzard. It's no wonder I didn't get an invite.

Please post your system specs if you got invited, I wonder if only those with Core i7's, 6gigs DDR3 and DX11 cards will get invited...

The system specs utility correctly gathered my specs (i7 920 @ 4.0GHz, 6GB DDR3, ATi 4870, 1920x1080) and I didn't get an invite.

Wouldn't it make more sense that people with worse specs would have a better chance to be invited?

Yeah, that's foolish. They're going to want information from all types of PCs. They already know an i7 920 will run this thing at max or near-max.
