OMG I had such a horrible round of 2v2 Team matches with random teammate last night...

I am in the platinum league with 2v2 (although admittedly I dont think I should be) and last night really put me in my place. I think I played 4 or 5 games and they were just back to back losses. Now some of them I think I played very well and held my own but had allies that just did the worst things.

The last game of the night we managed to get the upper hand but then I got careless/lazy because I thought this is it and we basically let a good opportunity slip for the Zerg to mass produce and hold us off. I was so focused on enemy bases that I neglected to expand, mass more workers and mass more units. It was pretty embarassing.

But seriously it seems like I get paired with lousy players and are pitted against really great ones.

I just got myself a key and I'm downloading now. I'm so excited, it has been years since I have played a RTS.

How easy is it to into Platinum? I just randomed 2v2, and my partner is mid Plat and top 10 gold. Dude seriously doesn't seem to be at that level of skill.

I don't think the differences between leagues are really that large. Top 10 platinum is on a whole 'nother level for sure, but other than that...

PM me or Post here if you want to play some SC2

Looking for Gold/Plat level players. Do some 2v2's with friends or random opponents. I'm no pro, but I've been in Plat almost exclusively during the entire Beta process, so it would be nice to play with someone of equal caliber.

Thanks!

I am amazed that from an RTS map editor we get equivalents to Tetris, Frogger, Space Invaders, GTA and other classics.

Just goes to show how powerful of an editor blizzard made. It's no longer a simple map editor for their RTS game, but in many ways an easily accessible game engine. Even for just RTS's they have provided a LOT more options and functionality. The custom game section of SC2 is going to make WAR3 look like child's play.

the leagues are not as different because I don't think the placement is just right yet.

For instance, in my 5 placement matches, I lost to 1 plat, and 1 gold. But won the other 3(one of which was against a gold I believe). So I'm in silver.

I'm sure there are others out there who played 5 matches against copper/bronze and were put in plat. So I have now won a few more games and usually win my silver matches but it just takes time to move up.

Even being in silver I have beaten plat players before so it is not like they are all significantly better. And when the game comes out and they have the pro league you will see even less differences from plat on down.

Its very easy but it also requires a bit of luck

Basically is you win all 5 of your placements matches you are going to end up in platinum - that's how I ended up in platinum both 1v1 and 2v2. IN these placement matches just chease it as much as you can if you have to. The luck part comes in the 2v2 because if you end up with a lousy partner forget it its a 2v1. I had this for 2 of my placement matches. One guy was a complete newbie who left all 6 of his starting scvs idle for a good 20 seconds, and he didnt build a rax for almost 2 minutes.

When the other 2 players scouted him they must have got some kind of blood rush and tried quickly throwing everything they can at him but I helped him and I dropped on the other two killing them off one by one. But they werent good players either.

But I really dont consider my skill high enough for platinum. I get lazy often and lack good macro skills for long games. Pretty much if I dont win within 15 minutes chances are I lose

I lost all of my placement matches because I mistakenly thought you only needed 1 harvester per crystal node. Even my partners didn't clue me in, it wasn't until I saw the damn loading screen that said "You should have 3 harvesters per any node for optimal resource gathering" that I realize why I was constantly broke.

I was kind of annoyed that nobody I played with bothered mentioning it. Now, trying to move up outside of the placement matches is an uphill battle. I was at the top of copper for awhile before moving into bronze and the people I played weren't even bad. I moved 40 ranks in bronze already, but I haven't played to check if I'm in silver yet.

It's not up to your random 2s partner to tell you how to play. If they're being a good partner then their too busy playing their own base/army to count the number of workers you've built for you. 3 is max, but after 2 per you start getting deminishing returns.

Yeah. The general rule of thumb is 2.5 workers per - so 20 workers on the usual 8-mineral patches. After that, it's better to just expand, but feel free to keep making workers up to 3 per at your first base, and then send them out to the expansion when it's done.

It's not up to them, you are right, but when someone takes the time to say something like "why don't you fucking build something" instead of maybe something helpful like "you have too few harvesters". They both took the same time to type and the same time looking at my base. One was just a lot more helpful.

Zerg got fucked over pretty hard. Double root time? Double energy for parasite + research cost/time? Also if Ultra is now T instead of U, what is train Muta? Or do Ultras come from hatcheries now rather than larvae?

Increased hellion range, improved pheonix. Not a good day to be a Z player.

I don't know, looks like they made corruptors useful and gave ultralisks a huge damage bump. Brood Lords took a big hit, but I don't rely on them much because I like to end my games early.

actually it does the exact same amount of damage just does it quicker with less per shot than before.

So it wasn't really nerfed.

Actually its quite a nerf, now it cant 1 shot a marine or zergling (or a gatherer) without a lot of upgrades. Now takes 3:30 to kill either instead of 2.2.

Kinda sad they changed corruptors, their ability was fun to play with.

Corruptors were already useful, against massive units, which is what they were designed to do. Now that pheonix are basically vultures in the air, on paper muta are totally nullified. I've yet to play in this new patch, but I'm in the platinum league, and even before pheonix could hold their own very well against muta, so I expect this buff to make them just plain dominate. Hellions and pheonix are used much more in the higher leagues than the lower ones, and both have been buffed.
