Can somone explain or link me to an explanation of the divisions thing? I did my 5 placement matches and won 4 of them and its telling me gold division rank 3. What does that mean?

5 divisions: Plat, gold, silver, bronze, copper. Better you play, the higher the division you get put in. Generally you only play against people in your division +/- one level.

You can move up and down in your division depending on how well you do by playing more games. If you do very well, or very poorly, you can move up and down through the divisions.

I watched a video (of a guy baneling rushing) where he microed two drones onto each mineral patch. He was pretty damn good though. I don't know if it makes any difference because they DO autobalance themselves onto the whole patch in this game.

lets say you have 10 workers, and you select them all and right click on a single mineral patch.

1) they all run to the patch
2) they all split up
3) they begin to mine.

if you micro them, they go straight to the right patch to mine. it'll make a small difference. how big of a difference, i really can't tell you.

Not the best explanation. There are currently five leagues - platinum, gold, silver, bronze, and copper. Upon release, there will also be a pro league and possibly a practice league.

Divisions are essentially meaningless. 100 players per division, but there are no really no differences between divisions.

I actually really like that pricing option, especially if they have the ability to upgrade to unlimited access for the remainder of the price. A lot of people play games as long as they are new but lose interest quickly, the ability to essentially rent the game for 6 months at half price is a good one.

so...im spending 100 on the game...and i have to buy another 60 dollars to get unlimited access on bnet and single player? wtf is thsi shit...

I will sooner crawl through salted glass than pay a monthly fee to play SC2.

also, link to press release?

found link: http://www.businesswire.com/portal/...d=news_view&newsId=20100506006473&newsLang=en

false alarm, kfmaksmdkajfadl didn't read far enough, next paragraph they have the option to buy 'unlimited' access same as us.

MaLefister I did read the whole article , just did not copy/paste the whole thing....just saying that this possibly is a test for things to come in the future

how come stalkers can't blink to higher ground sometimes?

You need to have seen the high ground first (i.e. cleared the map shroud, NOT the fog of war, which doesn't matter). Once you've had a unit "see" the high ground at some point in the game, you can blink to it. Either that, or the range of the high ground is too far for Blink.

The game won't start up for me :( Keeps crashing. Win7 64bit, 8800gt....I've tried 196.21, 197.45, and some other version in the middle that I normally had. It loads up, and instantly crashes. Once I got it to show me the SC2 splash screen before the crash, but that was on a fresh reboot. Everytime it crashes on me, the Windows Action Center seem to point to NV drivers crashing as opposed to SC2 crashing. Anyone have the same problems? I'd post this on BNET, but I don't have a profile to my account....and clearly I can't start the game up to make a profile :( Oh yeah, I also tried to disable Physx. And finally, I guess I found some error logs in the windows action center (had to dig around to find it). Here are some of the crashes I am getting: =============

Some fun games today. I now have (borrowed...) a build order for tvz that seems okay for a fast expanding z. Two barracks (12, 15), pump marines and bunker rush the z expand. Then put down your own expand, bunker up and go to solid 4 techlab + 1 reactor MMM macro until game over. I'll try to make it so I have an armory and a second bay completed when the 1/1 upgrade finishes at bay, so I get dual upgrades from there on.

Now if only I had a solid gameplan for pushing out and taking my expansion vs a fast ling opening zerg and one-base zergs in general. Banelings and speedlings alone are incredibly hard to deal with. Even if I don't die, the z has map control and I feel like I can't get out without losing immediately, and staying in I will suffer a macro loss.

To zerg players:

What do you guys to against void rays?

There is no cheap zerg AA unit. Structures like spores are practically useless. Mass hydras/mutas aren't cost effective and easily countered.

Just wondering, since the last 5 matches I've lost were to void rays.

i don't play zerg, but hydras are probably your best bet vs voidrays because they attack fast and are relatively cheap (compared to mutas/that air-unit that turns into broods)

The only thing that countered my mass void rays this weekend was ~50 mutas. The zerg player must have saved up resources and larvae for a quick reaction. I had massed ~25 rays and moved out right after his first push (roaches). I wiped his push with my rays and headed to his base. Just as I arrived he flew in with the mutas and tore through me. First hard counter I have seen. I still haven't found a solid terran counter. Mass turrets slow them down a bit but that is it.

Vikings on the offensive (i.e. not while the Void Rays are attacking a base) generally tear through Void Rays. If Void Rays are powered up, hitting a base... god help you. Otherwise, Vikings are very very dominant in the air. I've found that my protoss has a hard time dealing with mass mass vikings. Stalkers are pretty good against them but T usually has tanks and MMM dominating ground...

P shouldn't have a problem against Mutas, what with stalkers and the now extremely buffed Phoenixes (which destroy Mutas due to extra light damage).

I believe hydras are the best Z counter to mutas, as they hit hard and very fast. they also don't have enough HP for void rays to power up on. they'll need a lot of support, though, as P ground (zealots/stalkers) handily tear through hydras most of the time.

I thought so, too, but then 20 unpowered rays tore through my 20 vikings pretty fast. :\
They might have been fully upgraded though while my vikings were only 1/3.

Void rays are also more expensive and it's anti armor vs anti armor so it's pretty understandable you're at a disadvantage even numbers.

did you focus fire?

vikings outrange void rays, so you should have the initial advantage.

1 viking vs 1 powered up void ray = gg though. i got rushed both times last night by those f*ckers :p

the 2nd round I did a little better, but my defense was still inadequate

Yeah, I think I got about 3-4 of them before my force was wiped out.

marines + stim melt away void rays
