I'm sure a lot of it is because animals obviously feel, plants is still debatable.

What I don't get are the people who are anti-meat but have no problem with seafood. "I'm against eating animals, pass the salmon and shrimp."
If they're killed properly, the animals don't feel anything.

I'm over my hot chicken wing addiction. So I'm good. Now I've on spicy jerk chicken kick. Jerk chicken thighs with side of Peri Peri hot sauce is super addictive.

On the downside of chicken wing shortage. More chickens are going to end up dead.

You guys dont want to hear this, but lets return to this thread in 20 years.
Talking about eating meat of an animal that was bred in captivity for the sole purpose of being food for a human being will be as culturally unacceptable as homophobia is today... there will still be a few bigots around but the vast majority of us will understand why its bad.

*DONT KILL THE MESSENGER*

See you in 20.

Sympathy for animals? What about a little sympathy for the fruits? What about a little sympathy for the vegetables? Does not an artichoke cry when being stabbed with a knife? Does not an orange feel pain when its skin is pealed off? Can you imagine if someone were pealing YOUR skin off of YOUR body? Hath all life under the stars not have a right to live with decency and without the fear of mutilation by humans? Think about the artichokes and the bananas and the oranges and the apples. Think about the green grass as it is severed and mutilated by the lawn mower? Can you hear the grass crying out in pain? No? Then what the hell is wrong with you, you sadist.... :p

I mean, when you put it that way, its pretty arbitrary that we dont eat homo sapiens is it not? There may be some prion assessment in there, but you catch my drift. Wait. Is the only thing holding you back from eating man(pun) cause god says its a no no? (And is that a thing? And is no no not a double negative so is god not telling you TO eat human flesh? Questions...).

I'd argue that anything with a neural network for brains and capacity for empathy and fear is in the ballpark of what human emphatical reach is capable of.

But hey, I am gonna enjoy my grass fed briskets while it lasts... Only reason I am cutting back on meat is health concerns.

Someone called a chicken a veggie a few posts back. Forget about chicken, lets talk about duck... Duck fat is rocking that omega-3 too... DID you know that? I mean, duck is like having your cake AND get to eat it too!!!! + duck is way tastier than chicken.

that's garbage stock. You're throwing money away just to make inferior food when you use boxed stock.
The canned stuff sucks but some of the boxed stuff can be good. Costco organic broth is one of them.

I cook bone in thighs in boxed stock to fortify it before making it into chicken soup.

It's nice and rich

Plenty of trays of wings at Sam's Club today. Looking like I'll be at the grill tomorrow evening, doing my Texas Pete and Soy Sauce wings.

Most people I know that are concerned about animals feeling, it's more about the farm life than the killing part.
Thats also because if you're going to be eating something you want it to raised as well as possible. At least I do anyway. I don't want to eat something raised in filth or with no room to exercise its muscles.

I remember 30yrs ago no one care about wings, it was $0.05 per on wing night. A party of 6 with beers/shooters/wings run under $40CAD ~ $30 freedom dollar.

As recent as the mid 90s the Horse and Cow (bubble head bar famous for their wings) had a $.25 wing night. They used to weed out all the little ones during the week and save them for that night.

Psssttt...

Peal refers to primarily ringing of bells, but always refers to sound.

Peel, on the other hand, refers to taking the outer covering off something, such as peeling an orange or human.

Why is there like an animal rights thing laced through this thread? I get not wanting to mistreat living things, no point in being unnecessarily cruel to random animals you encounter in day to day life, but there are definitely others that are culturally defined as food.

Pigs, Cattle, and chicken are basically universally considered food animals anywhere you go in the world. Then there are sheep/duck and some other more gamey meats. Then there are the more regional delicacies.

Everyone's ancestors would have literally killed to have such secure access to high quality food and protein that we have today. It's your damn birthright to eat a varied healthy diet that also includes some meat (I mean an 8oz portion here folks not a 21oz porterhouse every night).

We can eat and digest meat because we're evolved to get nutrients from damn near anything we eat. Pigs and cattle and chicken will never be extinct so long as humans are around.

I fear for those species as soon as mankind figures out how to affordably synthesize animal protein and vat grown meat.

And like some sort of perverse Noah, my stomach is the ark and I fully plan to get at least two of every animal in there before I die.

Chicken wing shortage, Jeez, that's all I need. Started using them in lieu of toilet paper when it disappeared from the shelves.

Speaking of fowls, what was the last thing the hunter heard when he was knocked unconscious by one?

I like boneless wings. Bones get in the way of meat in general.

Lord I used to live in that place when it was in Vallejo CA near the Mare Island Shipyards back in the early 1970's. The old Whinny and Moo.

Yeah, ummm, Not.

There are places where cattle are considered sacred and people are killed for killing them.

There are places where pork is considered unclean and essentially banned as food.
