I work for a mid-sized food distributor, last two weeks we ordered 500cs, we were sent 60, seems that during the pandemic we've been munching on chicken wings like mad.

Had to go to a local Publix for a few things tonight, they did have some wings for $5/lb but no drumettes at all. On the bright side this usually pushes down other chicken prices considerably, I can now buy a 40lb box of boneless/skinless for $1.35/lb at work.

Kroger has whole chickens, legs, and thighs all for $0.97/lb. on sale this week.

Eggs are lower too, about $1.29/dz large size.

Wings are the ones that are still high.

I love me dem wings. I like'um crusty deep fried, baked oven tender, BBQ'd, hot, mild or roasted bare nekkid over a campfire so long as they're plucked proper. Pulling pin feathers stuck between my teeth and gums between bites just ain't muh thang.

On the downside of chicken wing shortage. More chickens are going to end up dead.

Chickens are vegetables. Their is no soul there. No different then eating a computer designed to peck at food all day.


Besides, they had no problem snacking on us mammals back in the Cretaceous period. What comes around goes around* :p


*66 million years from now, a Tree will say the same thing about us mammals. It is ok to use them as building material...

There's something comical about people who find eating plants is okay but eating something just because it moves is against the moral code.

Just because you don't see it moving doesn't mean it isn't something that is... Well.. alive.

I can only guess it comes from those with weak minds that can't wrap their heads around plants being alive - simply because they can't see emotions and crying faces and thus are limited to only what their eyes perceive.

I haven't noticed anything about wings yet. We regularly buy those large tray-sized packages of legs, thighs and breasts -- used for various purposes but the dark meat goes into the deep fryer. One learns to live with vegetable-oil re-use and disposal. I have a "Southern" fried chicken recipe for a seasoning mix and a procedure for dredging in the mix, the flour, some egg and then flour again. It requires adding some bombero sauce (or Del Taco Inferno sauce) to the beaten egg. I'm proud of my fried chicken, because it hadn't been my forte until the last six months.

We'd buy fried chicken pieces at the grocery deli on a regular basis. For one particular store, their offering was very good. Sometimes you want Colonel Sanders. Honey-mustard sauce is a 'must". When I have to, I make my own with dollops of French's and some tablespoons from the honey jar.

:How about Mandarin Orange Chicken to serve with your sticky white rice? You can either make your own nuggets and oven fry them -- breading with the egg and flour (but little seasoning), or you can buy a bag of Tysons Chicken Nuggets. For the sauce, you mix some Orange Marmalade, some Sweet Baby Rays standard barbecue sauce, Soy Sauce and some Sesame Oil. Heat it in the microwave; add the chicken pieces from the oven; get out your chop-sticks and pig out.

God Help America when you can't get chicken for a reasonable price -- even if it's just "parts-is-parts". God Save Us. That leaves the questions: "Are brown eggs really better? Or are free-range eggs better?"

so....what your brain is telling you that other people interpret differences between plants and animals as more than just "a thing that moves." ...Is it possible that all the people smarter than you (almost certainly just about everyone else), have far more complicated and nuanced ways to differentiate living things? You know, maybe simply a creature with a brain, processing, memory, agency? You know, stuff like that?

Is it possible that the little boy inside your skull, still running around that childhood playground, still only believe that "alive" = "it moves?" That must be what you think, because you just assume that is what everyone thinks. Or, you recently realized that is a stupid thing to think (you leveled up!), but because you hilariously and tragically believe that you are smarter than everyone else, you just continue to assume that you became aware of this before anyone else--hence this post that you made for some reason.

fascinating.

if you don't like to eat those parts, then why not save them and use to make stock? Those bits--especially the wing tips and back--are excellent for stock.
Buy whole chicken, roast it, make soup out of the leftovers!

It's way easier to buy a can or carton of chicken stock or soup in the grocery store.

My MiL was one of you though...the Thanksgiving turkey carcass went from
(a) Roast turkey,
(b) Turkey leftovers,
(c) Turkey sandwiches,
(d) Turkey salad sammiches
(e) Turkey ala King,
(f) Turkey soup.
By the time she was done, there wasn't a tiny scrap of meat wasted.

Brown eggs come from a different chicken breed than white. No difference to taste to me. There is no nutritional difference either. Free-range has better yolks in my experience, hard to describe the difference, richer tasting? Might be placebo effect.

Cage free at a minimum just on principal. It is kind of disgusting to raise animals in small cages for their whole lives. California has outlawed cages for egg production, supposedly they will be 100% cage free in a few years.

I'm lucky around here, you can just buy eggs at the side of the road at honesty stalls. They are just from people that keep a few chickens on their land. Cheaper than from the shop and they absolutely taste better than large scale production eggs.
