I started with Brick and am now level 50, all the way through the second playthrough. Everything is now level 50 or 51 and is a BLAST to fight. I use shotguns and rocket launchers.

My g/f's char is the Siren, spec'd for phasewalking and melee. Level 50 as well. A blast to play, especially with a Double Anarchy, and decent elemental guns. She tears through things and can phasewalk to run away if things get hairy.

I'm starting a shotgun soldier next (gotta love the soldiers mods plus shotgun skills!), and will eventually try Mord with pistols.

I'm not paying a penny more for this game until the online works like it should.

I encourage others to not be so weak and hold out on buying until the next patch to see if they've listened and fixed the problems a majority of us are having with the online component of the game.

Agreed. Not a chance I'm paying $10 for DLC that is clearly an afterthought.

Mikey @ Gearbox is giving away 360/PS3 DLC codes on Twitter for Haikus...so I made him one...

I sent him this one, even tho he's only giving out 360/PS3 codes:

PC DLC is out now / If only the online was working there / Then I'd buy Doctor Ned

I expect no response.

I haven't played the game since a week after it was released because of the botched online part of the game... I really hope they fix it, if not, then I wasted $33.

Love this game, I'm halfway through playthrough 2 now (lvl 50 soldier).

What's everyone's preferred character?

just completed my first playthrough with a Hunter

focused on the sniper skills and bought an orange revolver that does 158*7 damage, ~70 % accuracy, ammo regen, and a 2 bullet barrel. it seriously should be named Death and Destruction because combined with the 4th tier skill that gives 100% shield ignore to bullets, ammo regen, bullet spread, and 70% accuracy, it rapes everything close range, mid range, and it usually does well enough long range. I don't even have to bother using aim zoom. it's so easy that I get bored and start meleeing.

considering doing a second play through now or starting a new character class

I did quite well with my soldier; I'm getting close to Krom on playthrough 2 (not very far into it, that is) and am already level 50. I've done pretty much equal damage with snipers, combat rifles, SMGs, machine pistols, and eridian weapons (lightning was the bomb for quite a while and the lightning storm beats most shotguns!).

Is it just me or is the double anarchy the best weapon up-close for most of the game?

I'm late to the Borderlands party, but this game is a lot of fun when playing with friends.

I really don't dig it singleplayer, & actually quit after an hour or so of playing, but since then i've been playing with IRL friends, & it's pretty damn fun.

the game got too shallow for me. already shelfed it for the most part. needs more AI and AI variety logic, and a better story with some rpg elements. which is sad because besides the consolelitus, the game foundation is quite solid, just needs more interesting content.

I'm playing on the PC - currently I'm a L27 Sniper. I loved it until about L20, and then I realized that much of the challenge had disappeared. I'm dominating every enemy, and the game is getting repetitive.

I think it fell prey to trying something new enough to not have the time to get the story and AI part proper. Kind of like the first Assassin's Creed, it had parts that were unique but overall it felt like it was flat and missing quite a bit. I think with the sales of Borderlands there should be a sequel, and I think it'll be pretty awesome in comparison. The foundation like you said is solid.

the difficulty definitely could use some tweaking. i don't think that side quests should net as much XP as they do currently. that would prevent the player from leveling way up and making every quest after that insanely easy...
i'm at lvl 33 soldier right now, playing with a friend who is 33 hunter.

My Pistol spec Hunter does SICK damage... dueling my buddies is a joke. The game itself is pretty easy as long as I'm smart about picking battles and cover... but there are times I'll run in with my Repeater and just mow guys down. I might avoid more of the side quests my second time through just to keep my level more in check with the NPCs to make it a little more challenging.

Well....how is it?

Uhh, played through without any side quests, easy, didn't die once as Brick. Basically headshot 1k+ zombies with my trusty Masher / Shotgun. Got the brain surgeon achievement lol. Play through without side quests was like 5-6 hours maybe. Theres like 6+ side quests I didn't do yet. It is quite interesting how this turns out, fairly humorous about the whole thing. Lol, someone from the regular game got a mustache ;)

Fire/Explosive guns murder these zombies.

I agree online component is troublesome, but workable, i noticed that if you get accidently dropped or kicked from a game and you search for games it will not show all available games, you either have to start a SP or host a game real fast then quit and search for games again and it would show many available games if any everytime. Hosting worked for me as well, al i had to do was open ports then an exception check on windows firewall.

I started offline SP and played online for playthrough 1 side mission and all of playthrough 2 and its fun and all but it gets tiring as u go through more of the same. I have already come across many players that have weapons that are off the charts (hacking), but i guess in games like this i dont mind because dueling is not that fun. I wish this game could populate more than 4 players and work like a usual multifps game it would definately boost its replay value. I hope the dlc has improved mission design because if it wasnt for the great foundation in this game like others mentioned i would of given up because it felt too much like GTA mission design, you are sent all over the place and there is more time wasted traveling trying to complete mostly lackluster missions than using the nice weapons.

My 4 player coop group all jumped on the DLC.

We're having a great time, lots of fun. We're level 50, and the monsters are level 50 or 51 as well (finished Playthrough 2). Even so, the DLC can be easy at times, so just switch to a secondary weapon with a lower proficiency and play around. My Brick uses shotguns and rocketlaunchers, so I picked up a crap blue pistol and started using that to kill stuff when it gets too easy (there are places where it gets pretty difficult though, especially in 4 player coop), and it's a lot of fun to play.

The humor is great in this game, has me chuckling at the different quests and NPC's. So.... if you have a group of friends to play with, and you had fun in the original Borderlands, pick it up, it's only $10, and you'll get quite a few hours of entertainment out of it for sure. Thumbs up for me.

*EDIT*

Had to add this: There is an NPC priest... from Ireland... named Jackie O'Lantern. He's great.

Does the DLC add any new variety to the random guns? They mentioned a few uniques, but I'd much rather get new pre/post fixed and brands.

If not....I'll pass.

I don't know what I am doing wrong. I can not connect online. After a couple of hours fooling around with ports, I managed to finally connect to someone else's game, but I still can not connect to a friend's. We both have the right ports forwarded.

And when I click join game, there is usually only 1 or 2 games in the list and I usually can't connect to any of them. I just can't figure this out.

Neither of us have any firewalls running. It just times out when we try to join.

edit: this is really starting to get to me. There is no reason why I should be able to play online. I have all the updates, did all the port forwarding...

There's a few things going on with the ports for Borderlands. Gamespy requires a TON of ports to be opened on some computers for whatever reason. Try all these ports, and make sure you're paying attention to the TCP/UDP settings. It won't do you any good to open the 6500 TCP port, but not the 6500 UDP, know what I'm saying? They're completely separate things. My router allows me to choose between TCP only, UDP only, or Both. I stick with "Both" just because it's easier for me to set it up that way.

6500 (TCP/UDP)
9989 (TCP/UDP)
7777 (TCP/UDP)
28900 (TCP)
27900 (UDP)
28910 (TCP)

Ya I opened all of those. I opened every port that I saw mentioned when searching for fixes. I used portchecker to see if they are open and some of them aparently weren't, but they did open when I opened them under "port range forwarding" instead of "single port forwarding".

This shouldn't affect why I can't see any games online though right? There must be something else.
