Well I'm at level 61 now, and just running around in circles collecting powerful weapons. I've found two Cyan Pearlescent 'ultra-rare' items so far - an omega shield and a shotgun that lobs grenades.

I was rather disappointed in the Zombie Island DLC (just finished it).

I played through the original game (play through 1 & 2). Probably about half way through 2 I hit the level cap. I finished the game and got Zombie Island.

I guess I should have realized with no increase in the level cap Zombie Island was going to be meh. Even with focusing on less capable weapons, I pretty much went through it without any trouble. I found almost no interesting weapons/drops.

Overall, I thought it was rather dull.

So now I am wondering if I should bother with Knoxx. From what I have read it seems like it would be better than Zombie Island. Can anyone that has played both comment on that?

From what I've read (haven't played it yet) Zombie Island scales to be the same level as the main quest line when you first go there. By slamming into the level cap you trivialized the content before you ever went to it.

A better way to experience it would be to find a point where the main quest missions are tough and then go to zombie island. It would be a challenge and the drops would be better.

The problem with doing this is that the game has so many side missions that if you do them all the MQ (at least for me) always seems to be normal or trivial; it seems like you'd have to intentionally not do side missions to ramp up the challenge level.

For those who have the Underdome DLC, does the bank have a shared area? Many loot based games have have a shared storage area which you can use to shuffle items between characters.

I have nobody to play with online so I'm stuck playing single player. My soldier always seems to find SMG's my siren would love but I have no way to give them to her.

So I finally started playing the game and I think my Siren is up to level 12 now.

I felt so damn cheesy when I had to kill Bone-boy ( whatever his name was ). I had a hell of a time using any technique involving my actual Siren abilities (level 9 (me) vs level 11 (him)). So, I kept a sniper rifle in my backpack just in case I wanted to play a little. I whipped out my sniper rifle and gunned the bastard down where he maybe only hit me a time or two.

Heh, but I like meleeing stuff to death... it's rather fun 😛. Especially when the low level things try and attack you (stupid skags) and you just jump over them, look downward and melee. Insta-kill 😀.

I read something about the Siren getting bonuses to Sniper Rifles if you have DLC3?

Specter COM:

+ Sniper Crit Dmg
+ Slayer / Enforcer / High Velocity
+ Sniper Accuracy OR + Sniper Ammo Regen

Very rare though. I found one so far - luckily it's Sniper Crit Dmg +75%, everything +3 and +12 Ammo Regen. Blue one, got as a reward from an arena quest 🙂

Knoxx was hard for me at lvl 38 (Mordechai) after i've beat playthrough 1. now i'm in PT2 and gonna attempt it again later.

zombie island was lots of fun the first time (PT1) and i got good items because i was low level (around 20).

Mad Moxi was also hard specially on the second arena where i had no where to hide and snipe everyone 🙂 , and it sucks that if you die you have to do the entire thing all over again!

Well, with the Siren, I'm trying to tailor a build to the way I play. I play kind of oddly... I don't use phasewalk nearly as much as I should, but that could relate to how it has a relatively long cooldown without any talents to help reduce it. I've used it, run up and melee'd a guy (usually one-shotting or taking them down significantly) but other than that and possibly running away... I don't really use it.

If I'm fighting Skags, I just gun them from afar, let them try and charge me, jump over them and melee them while jumping. I love meleeing skags 😀. Sometimes if I get into a scuffle with a lower level one, I'll just melee it to death regardless of how many times it takes 😛.

But given that I am a mixed fighter (guns and melee) and don't rely on phasewalk as much... I came up with this:

Oh and I'd also say that I'm a "shield-based" Siren... I use higher capacity shields and the ability to regen shields upon kill seems rather helpful to me like this. I chose using higher capacity shields, because I found that in most situations, I never had my shield run out... in other words, I rarely take health damage. At level 12 (or maybe it's 11... can't remember) I have around 150 shield and 250 health.

Phasewalking sadly doesn't seem to be the most helpful power to have.
Berserker's fists of fury or soldier's healing turrent is far more helpful solo or to a team IMHO.

As my main character is a Siren (level 46), i primarily just just use phasewalking when getting swamped & needing to escape, or when i wanna get somewhere in a hurry :hmm:
Or when bored. :awe:

I've been trying to get my friends to play more with me so i can get thu Zombie Island, but they've mostly moved onto other games.

I don't like the game playing on my own, nor with random people online, so it's hard to get anywhere as i'm painfully slow when doing stuff on my own.

I'd play with someone but I'm level 1. Also kind of nervous around people (hence why I almost never play online except shooters) but I'd play Borderlands. I'm in the EST zone.

My shotty. I've gotten so many "great ones", but always go back to this one.

Recently spent a fortune on this; i think it's been like 15 levels since i found my previous best shield.

Primarily using this because of the shield increase.
I have a lot of more expensive ones that seem less useful. :\

I purchased all three DLCs.... I was going to skip Mad Moxxi, but I pretty much paid $10 for bank slots 😱.

My biggest problem with weapons is finding weapons that are my level range. I'm 16 now and I think my SMG is a level 5 weapon 😱. I recently picked up a sniper rifle that's level 15, so that ought to help out a bit. I picked up this one epic SMG with double fire rate, but my god... the thing was god awful. I switched to some other gun that had higher base damage, but didn't fire two at once. The thing is though, the gun had almost twice the fire rate anyway, so it essentially can fire just as many bullets as the epic gun anyway!

I'll have to take a pic or two of some of the nifty weapons that I've found.

Oh and can I turn V-Sync on for this game? The tearing is (just like my weapons) god awful. I didn't see an option in the game (/sigh @ console ports), so I assume I'd have to do it from ATI's CCC?

Looking at the Wiki, it looks like I can turn on V-Sync from a settings file... I'll see if it helps.

Ugh, I'm kind of stuck. I'm supposed to go kill Sledge, but according to the wiki, there are a few quests that I'm still not able to pick up (including one that involves the mine). I have no idea how to activate these from the bounty board as I've been everywhere on the map 🙁.

Here's my Siren.

It would appear that the shotgun & smg are modded guns.

The shotgun shows Tediore, but the red text "Have a nice day" is from Torgue's friendly fire series. Tediore has a defender series that gives ammo regen.

The smg shows Maliwan, but the red text "Smack 'em" is from the Hyperion bitch series. The only orange smgs with ammo regen that I've seen are from the Tediore savior series. Maliwan orange smgs are from the hellfire series.

Level 24 now 😀. I got that super secret chest in the what'cha'ma'whoosits West area but I only got two shotguns that are just kind of alright 🙁. Does that chest, like all other chests, respawn when you reload the game?

I'm pretty unlucky in the game though... I bought this nice Siren class mod that fits in well with my build and about an hour later, one dropped off a mob... exact same stats 😛. Amusingly enough, I also found a shock modifier off some wimpy mob that I was supposed to get after fighting those tough elemental guardian things.

I find this to be annoying. Some weapons seem to be much better by the numbers but then when I use them they seem to be inexplicably weaker. A lot of the yellow/orange weapons I swear are just downright worthless. I wish it was a little easier to figure out what gun is more powerful, although with the elemental effects I guess it can be tricky since it depends who you're shooting at.

I guess it also comes down to personal preference. For some guns I just don't like how they shoot / handle. Like if they have a slow fire rate and a small number of rounds in the clip.

I grew tired of examining the weapons to try and determine if a new one was somehow incrementally better than something I already had. It got to the point where I would just look at the weapon's value and if it wasn't at least a certain amount (for a given type of weapon) I just ignored it.

The weapons management in the game is kind of messed up given the number of weapon variations they toss at you. Your pack inventory should not be sorted on rarity. That is pointless.

Weapons should be grouped by type first, i.e. all the shotguns should be together, all the sniper rifles together, etc. Then within the weapon group, they should be sorted by standard damage with a option to sort by elemental damage. This would make it much easier to find the best weapon for a given situation. For instance, if I wanted the best corrosive shotgun.

Sure, there are other factors that come into play like zoom or reload rate. However, it would be a lot easier to manually look at those features if the grouping was like I described.

Haha, today has been an amusing and quite lucrative day in Borderlands for me.

As I mentioned in that Steam Sale thread, I beat the main campaign yesterday and decided that instead of jumping on Playthrough 2, I'd head to Jacob's cove.

Well, I found going through DLC1 to be quite annoying... there are no teleporters anywhere, so you're forced to walk all around. It's just a bit annoying after being able to teleport anywhere in the basic game.

The day really got good when I noticed a gem of an item on a vendor... a Siren Mercenary Class Mod with.... SMG Ammo Regen! Oh, even though it took half of my money to buy it, I bought that bad boy so fast. Let me tell you, now I never have to switch to a different weapon... and it's awesome!

So, I kinda breezed through DLC1

and just killed Ned

. But the way I beat him was... well, a bit unorthodox and kind of amusing. I ended up trapped in a corner by him... rather unlucky I might say and he pretty much melee'd me to death very quickly. Now, the ol' sack of meat was probably laughing his digital head off... but he forgot one thing! I was using another SMG I bought (for 1 million... probably not a good idea) as it has better accuracy, so I figured it'd be better for boss fights (given there's usually only one thing there... so I can't increase my accuracy with kills). I just aimed at his head while bleeding out and just railed away. I ended up killing the boss and getting Second Wind off of it 😀.

Pretty cheesy, eh? 😛

Oh, and I also found this nice 800-ish capacity shield... I'm rather enjoying the high shield capacity (until a boss tears through it while you foolishly got trapped in the corner)!

EDIT:

Oh and better yet... to add insult to winning even more, when I killed the boss, I leveled up too, so I ended the fight with full HP! Makes me seem rather bad ass (rather than just bad).

I really like this game, but I wish it had a difficulty setting for single player. I find it way too easy; I used the config editor to set my multiplayer difficulty to +3 and I run LAN games (thanks to a prior poster for pointing out you can run multiple copies and LAN /w yourself) with a second char parked at zone ins just to make the game challenging.

I'd love some way to say "treat single player games as X player multi-player games" to get the difficulty ramped up.

bought the game Saturday night and I'm like lvl 10 now in SP. It's kind of boring and I am finding it challenging in some aspects. the controls and feel of the weapons just seems off.

Enemies seem to damage you really quickly, especially "boss" enemies.

Hmm Knoxx was a joke on Playthrough 1, but I think I was a few levels higher than him. All I did was move around a pillar and some boxes and he rarely ever hit me.

I need to try that exploit that lets you enter the armory without a detonation timer. I don't care about getting tons of loot, but I wouldn't mind having my pick of good loot 😛.

Oh, and I did that Circle of Duty... god, even with Ammo Regen, I ran out of bullets on my SMG. Then I realized that I have a legendary SMG with ammo regen built in, so I used that as well and I never ran out of ammo (I could barely even use it fast enough). Also, thankfully, I keep lots of different elemental weapons in my backpack, so I could easily dispatch of those heavily armored lancers with my nice Maliwan chemical SMG! 😛
