It's now expired. Just tried it.
How to open unopen-able boxes ? So there are these boxes with green lights; such as when I resecue Roland which look like safes; I click on them (E command) and the green light blinks red a couple of times but they don't open (there is also a cage on the first floor below your safe after a line of safes that does the same thing) how do you open these (or are they unopenable?)

I even put it in my cart a couple times during the summer sale, but those cell-shaded graphics just made me take it right back out. I'm not that huge a graphics whore - I play Fallout 3 & New Vegas for Pete's sake - but that comic book look is just more than I can hack.I can't believe it took me this long to get the game. I think the animated or cell shaded graphics turned me off initially, but since I bought the game (and all the DLC) during the Steam summer sale, I can't stop playing it..
The gameplay is really addictive, and can be challenging at times. I'm using Axton the Commando and so far, I'm really liking him and his combination of tactical and brute force skills and abilities.
Which class do you think is the strongest class in the game for solo play?

It's pretty much unequivocally Salvador, The Gunzerker. This is talking about at lvl 61, in UVHM, with good gear, etc. They're all pretty good, but the Gunzerker has some quirks about him, and just the perfect setup to smash faces in with the greatest of ease.
What lvl is your Commando currently?

Understood, but I just can't hack it. It's like third person games - that's like watching someone else play a video game without actually having someone else to talk with. Some things I just can't get into. If I have to deal with third person or cell-shaded/anime-style games, I'll just do something else.shame, because you're missing out on some of the best gameplay of the year, and certainly the funniest script.
Also, Borderlands would be terrible without that art style.

Different strokes. I'm seriously decoupled from the character as a character or separate entity. Last time I played through Fallout New Vegas I created a female character intending to play a different style, but of course I played the same old style I always play. Couple of times I've caught myself thinking "Damn it, who's that whiny bitch crying out through every fight?" After looking around, I'll realize it's me.Hah!
I HATE FPS but I love Borderlands.
go figure.
(I wish all such games were 3rd person restricted. seriously: I think those who play Elder Scrolls games in first person, for example, are lacking a few chromosomes)
I haven't tried gunzerker yet, but I have a Siren at 47, near the end of TVHM, and my Assassin at ~34 at Sanctuary in TVHM. I also, briefly, have started a Mechromancer.
From what I have heard before game launch and recently, Mechromancer is a bit too legit--pretty much designed to be "easy mode" --I think Randy or whoever called her "Your girlfriend's class" and took a lot of flack for that comment....
I started with Siren because Siren was *(&^%ing amazing in BL1 so I wanted more of that action. It's still fun in BL2, but not quite the same. Assassin however, if you go all Bloodshed with Many Must Fall and, uh, the middle tier--full mele build--that is OP. Yes, I'm only level 34, but I've found that you can run this build, even while leveling, and just make mincemeat of most of the playthrough. The Warrior is tough with that kind of build, sure...just bring the right guns
There are things I prefer about BL1: the guns were much better, more diverse, and more useful imo (I think slag is just silly) and for my money the loss of Phasewalk still makes me cry--but Borderlands 2 does many thing better:
--real story (no real need to play BL1 for it; but it helps particularly with character development and attachment)
--classes are more balanced. BL1 was basically Siren and/or Hunter (Mordecai). Commando was OK...but the big mele dude was just useless. Every class in BL2 is very much playable--plus there are 2 more classes that aren't simply throwaways.
--the gun play is still great, but the reality is that you have less guns (there is less variability in gun mods as some of the components are fixed for certain types--as compared to BL1 where all components were RNG...It's MATH, PEOPLE!)
--Dialogue and humor is out of control. I've played through the campaign 3.5 times now and I still laugh. It's the details--spend time in various bandit camps and listen to all the different types of bandits go about their chatter.
Try to befriend a Goliath. You will never be happier.

The main campaign is supposedly very long (around 60 hours)
