Tiny Tina is awesome. Every major NPC we meet leaves us laughing, and I don't think we've laughed as hard as we have at "Bonerfarts" in a long ass time lol.

Maybe it's because of my lack of fps playing the past couple of years, but I've been progressing slowly and have died a few times to the first couple of major bosses and to my first encounter with a pair of bad ass level thugs as lvl 8 Zer0 after five hours of game play. I died once to boom and bewm for being too aggressive and running out in the open while dealing with bewm, and two times to Captain Flynt before I cheesed it by standing at a lower level and shooting him when he can't come down to me.

Enjoying it nonetheless for the amusing dialogue.

Understatement right here folks.

Also is anyone else completely underwhelmed with assault rifles in this game? In Borderlands my assault rifles were freaking amazing but in BL2 I find myself using sniper rifles almost exclusively and my shotty when several things get up close and personal. I keep a fire elemental SMG on standby for things like Super Badass Maniacs that you just cannot allow yourself to get hit by.

The assault rifles have been pretty underwhelming, I was using one for a little while around level 20 that was ok, did x3 shots with decent damage but was not very accurate.

I just picked one up that does decent damage but the scope on it is terrible, it actually blocks the view.

Zero's action skill is primarily defensive if you're not melee - an escape measure, or a way to get around the guys with shields. His strengths are his passive skills.

Seriously? I was completely disappointed with assault rifles in the first one. Even as Roland, I found myself using every other type of weapon more than the assault rifle. Fire SMGs and corrosive pistols were brutal. Assault rifles were pretty weak, IMO. I've found them somewhat better in BL2.

In Borderlands I also used Roland and I found my assault rifles to be able to do everything well. I could take out targets in a close range setting and snipe enemies at mid to mid-long ranges with ease. In BL2 they just aren't nearly accurate enough. Even the ones with low-90s accuracy seem to be way off target even at short distances.

Early in the game I would use deception in order to make well-placed critical hit shots in an otherwise fire-heavy area. I'd also use it for its bonus to melee damage. However towards the end of the game enemies just become so heavily armored and melee is practically useless so the skill does become purely defensive.

I have pretty much been using deception to 1 shot kill most shielded enemies with a crit shot gun blast to the head. Perhaps I need to start using it defensively better.

I currently have a lvl 20 Assassin and I am enjoying/getting used to his play style.

A few notes:

1. The Assassin's Execute skill (in the Bloodshed tree) is quite good (worth the single point). It seems to almost always kill whatever baddy I'm targeting (Badass or not), especially if I get a crit. Though I actually haven't tested it to see if it increases damage (the description says it deals "massive damage") over a non-execute, Decepti0n attack.

2. I find it annoying that skins are sometimes the "Deal of the Day" item. I fast travel around to check the various Deal of the Days to look for good shields or weapons, not skins that I can't even see (nor really care about, tbh).

3. I've looked over all the various classe's skill trees a decent amount, and I'm not very fond of how vague the descriptions are. Such as the Assassin's "Killing Bl0w" skill: It says it deals massive damage to enemies that are at "low health", but doesn't specify how low. Is it 20%, 25%, 33%? I can't gauge how valuable the skill is if I don't know what it does.

There are also many skills that apparently have varying degrees of strength (the ones that have "up to X" in the description). Again, I'd like to know, if a skill is "up to" 4% of my health/second regen (depending on my current health level), is that only when I'm at 10% life, or 5%? What about full health?

Another example: The "Just Got Real" Skill, for the Gunzerker:
Increases the Damage you deal with all gun types. The lower your health, the greater the damage bonus.

With 5 points in the above skill, you get "up to" a 40% damage bonus, which sounds sweet. Now, do you only have to be below 50% health to get that full effect, or again, do you have to be like at 10% health for the full effect? What about when you're at full health? I wish they were more specific. I don't like putting points into skills when they could be wasted points, or only come into play a small percentage of the time I'm playing. Flat, always-on, or at least flat, on-kill buffs I like much better: at least you know what you're getting.

4. Badass Varkids! I think they're the toughest enemy I've faced in all of BL1, and so far in BL2. They were just melting me with their spit/corrode attack. I was desperately searching the vending machines for a shield that gave me immunity to corrosive (I hope their attack falls under that), but couldn't find one. I eventually just ate a bunch of deaths and finally killed them.

I'm still enjoying the Assassin, but I'm probably leaning towards trying a Gunzerker out next, when I get the itch.

Well I guess it depends on your play style. I play my assassin more like Rambo than a stealthy killer so I usually have to use it defensively to buy myself some time for my shield to heal up.

Just wait until you get to the Super Badass Maniacs in the Firehawk area of playthrough 2... Even with 7k shield and 8k health one wrench throw/hit from them can easily take me down to 500 health. It's a recipe for disaster if you are in a confined space.

On the weapon cards whats the meaning of the damage stat? Is this DPSecond or DPShot? Im thinking its per second or there is some important info left off the cards. I had 2 sniper rifles the other day 147 damage ~1.2 fire rate 5 rounds and a 158 damage 3 fire rate 10 rounds. Both were electric and were very similar in other stats. The slower firing gun was hitting for 2-3 times more displayed damage per shot than the faster gun.

How would that work for all the semi-auto guns though? They're all marked as "shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger!" so the amount of shots per second isn't fixed like for automatic guns. Are you sure the slower firing gun wasn't firing 2 bullets per shot or something?

That mission where he kept renaming the things had me cracking up. I loved that the game actually changed the name above the enemy too. Those kind of touches, you can tell the people who made that game loved doing it.

Bonerfarts.

LMFAO!

This kind of ties in with one complaint that I have about the game... the removal of weapon zoom being listed on the gun stats. Apparently, they removed it because they thought stats like that were "too much" for users. My suggestion was that they add a sort of "advanced tool-tip" like some games do. That could include zoom levels on weapon properties and more exact numbers on talents.

I just unload on them with my explosive assault rifle while in Fight For Your Life. :p

One question: on some of the weapons, you can check a yellow star or a red X next to it...does anyone know what that signifies?

I believe there is a "sell all" option on consoles that will sell all of the ones marked with an X. I dont know if its not on the PC version but I dont see it anywhere. I use the Star to mark the guns I want to keep, and just dont mark the others and sell those.

Tiny Tina is my least favorite character after Scooter. I liked Scooter in BL1 but in 2 he is just over the top stupid.

Tiny Tina - its the ebonics. I just hate ebonics in general.

Scooter just seemed to lose a lot of his perverted edge and is a bit more on the creepy side. Claptrap is probably the worst though; I swear if I hear that wub wub one more time. :|

The first time you tip her $10000 you get an achievement and a badass rank. Each additional time you tip her $10000, you get a weapon
And let me tell you, Miss Moxxie has some very nice guns. Good Touch or Bad Touch, there's going to be a lot of dying when those guns touch an enemy.:D

Protip: Play with a 360 controller if you're using the Good Touch

Completely underwhelmed. I'm sticking to SMGs, though I keep a slag assault rifle in my #2 slot so that when I Gunserk I can slag enemies and have the SMG in my other hand rip through them.

I was fooling around with the gunzerker, and it took me awhile to realize I need to hit both mouse buttons to fire both guns. Its a pretty powerful action skill, as there seems to be just enough enemies in an area for the gunzerking duration. When I faced Flynt again, I beat him down pretty easy. Dual assault rifles with explosive and a shield with fire resistance helped though.

What a lot of you are missing in regards to weapons is that the quality of the weapon has a far greater impact than the type of weapon.

It's not that ARs are bad, but that you haven't found a good one yet.

I've finally found a decent one on my gunzerker so that instead of 2 snipers and a pistol, I now use 2 snipers, an AR, and a rocket launcher.

It is annoying that this doesn't come in to play until you are near max level and aren't upgrading your guns every 10 minutes though.

Anyone playing Borderlands 2 feel that there is a necessity to cap the fps? I am averaging around 150fps and am running uncapped. Maybe should cap to 120 or 72?

Thoughts? Why would someone want to run uncapped fps?

Just curious

Yes quality is a big factor. However in 35 levels of play the highest accuracy assault rifle I have found was about 92. Even at that level it seemed wildly inaccurate compared to other weapon types with similar accuracy ratings. I've found some that are in the 1500+ damage range but they were explosive and those bullets move very slow compared to other bullet types. I have a ~550 damage shock elemental AR that I do use but that's as a backup.

If I manage to find a great AR and it proves to be as versatile as the were in BL1 for me I will change my tune, but as it stands now I am thoroughly unimpressed with them in BL2. :(

Yes, but unfortunately, for quite awhile, you usually only find these garbage weapons. Sometimes, you may find a weapon that looks great, but it may have one stat on it that makes it complete junk. For example, I found an e-tech corrosive SMG, which sounds nice, but it has a -30% recoil reduction stat on it. It's absolute junk. Also, there are some things you can't even tell until you try a gun out. For example, Hyperion sniper rifles have this ridiculous sway whenever you first look down the scope. Sometimes, I have to stop zooming in to make sure that I'm not on the high seas! Arr!

It is annoying that this doesn't come in to play until you are near max level and aren't upgrading your guns every 10 minutes though.

That's the one thing that I think really hurts Borderlands 2... the guns are usually not that good in Playthrough 1. That was the case in the original Borderlands as well, but I think people may have been more forgiving. However, after putting up with Diablo III's I-will-give-you-shit-loot-until-you-play-me-four-times system, people don't want that anymore.

It also doesn't help that your bags are so damned limited in space. Most ARPGs include town portal mechanics that make bag limitations nothing more than a slight pause. However, town portal mechanics would probably remove the entire point of ammunition. You could make that same argument for potions though, which are the closest thing to ammo in a traditional ARPG.

EDIT:

If I manage to find a great AR and it proves to be as versatile as the were in BL1 for me I will change my tune, but as it stands now I am thoroughly unimpressed with them in BL2. :(

What Assault Rifles did you like in the original? I thought very few were even worthwhile to use.
