Hey guys :) Quick question: I'm getting a new video card soon and I really want to play Borderlands.
Is it really necessary for me to play also the first the one or just by getting the Borderlands 2 I won't miss anything? Money is not a problem.
Thanks :)

You don't need to play the first one, but it's an awesome game and it still holds up great after 3 years, so I would highly recommend playing it at some point.

I've seen Steam sell the GOTY edition with all of the DLC for like $4 a few times, I would grab it the next time they do again.

How hard is it to get into this game? I haven't played a game in what feels like FOREVER...

Just started a new job and guys I work with are talking about it constantly...including my boss who is older than me lol!

used my golden key accidentally just now, at least I got a nice fire damage sniper rifle (i'm playing as zero)

going invisible, sneaking up behind someone, and assassinating them is fun as hell.

Funny enough I made the same mistake earlier today. They really need to better label that chest; in retrospect I see how it's the golden chest, but frankly I was expecting something much more explicit and much more shiny.

Unfortunately I'm playing as Salvadore, so a pair of fire damage sniper rifles is absolutely useless to me.

That's what I'm finding too, though I think I decided on a skill path unrelated to his action skill that should work well. On the left tree (gun crazy or w/e) there's a skill that reloads all guns you're not holding after a kill. To get to this skill, up on the tree you have to follow a path which includes boosting your weapon switch time and adding bonus damage onto the first shot after a weapon switch. I think this can all build up to a pretty fun build.

Conversely, gunzerking scales the best with gear. I'm lvl 26 right now and Salv is a beast. I have the action skill on 25s cooldown, so I'm always dual wielding. Just need two decent shotguns and a beefy shield. Playing with a Maya and Zero, Maya seems a bit weak. Can't do much by herself.

can't get the game to work, like many other people on the Gearbox forums. i click "Play" on the launcher and nothing happens. i uninstalled all VC++ redist's and .NET 4 client, reinstalled everything, downloaded from MS website...short of a fresh Win7 install i have tried everything. maybe it's a 64Bit OS problem?

Pretty easy, jump in it updates you on the story with an intro movie, then time to run n gun:cool:

You could always dual wield them.

No, since most are on 64 these days. It does launch a little app before the actual game, maybe if you search through the game file and try to start it from there.

64bit here and it runs. Doesn't mean it isn't just wanted to mention that on my fairly old Win7 install it works.

Has anybody had anybody jump into their open game? I make it a point to make sure my network setting for the game is set to "public" but have yet to see anybody join in. Not sure if there's connection issues or if nobody is trying to join games. Maybe everybody is starting their own games like me and wondering where everybody is? :p

That said, I'm also finding this quite a bit tougher than the first one was to solo. The regular packs of enemies aren't too bad but the bosses have been pretty rough. I also haven't been incredibly overleveled for missions like in the first one. I didn't go out of my way to level up either, but in the first one I always seemed to be 5 levels or so above the next mission once things got going. So far the biggest gap I've seen is 3, so if that changes it at least has taken longer than the first one.

I had one potential bug in a mission, but I'm not really sure if it was broken or not. It's the mission where you go and get the "special weapon" from Doc... so your intro to eridian weapons. After you get the gun you're supposed to kill 25 people with it and quite a few spawn right where you are. Well they stopped spawning after 15 even though my map marker still showed I was in the right place. I had to visit nearby settlements to find 25 to kill. Not sure if that was what was supposed to happen, but it seemed like a bug as the map marker for the mission never moved from the original spot.

Anyway, still having a lot of fun. Might start other chars soon.

Same here, but I was glad it stopped at 15 I was pretty much out of rounds for the gun by then. I went back to the motel restocked quit and resumed my game the badies instantly respawned and I finished the quest.

Yeah I ran out too. I had to restock to finish it. Maybe they realized this and capped the spawn limit here, but didn't code in more map location to kill people?

Same here as well. The camp just outside did the trick.

I had a bigger bug on that mission. The first time I killed him, his corpse fell through the ground and I couldn't search it. Fortunately, quitting and reloading fixed it.

I had the same problem, I remember thinking "Ok, wtf, where are the rest of the enemies?"

Turns out you don't have to stay in the highlighted area for the kills to count towards the quest. I ran around and got enough kills down by the docks nearby to finish it.

Yes, any bandits work.

That gun was annoying, but with a gunzerker, your special fills your ammo, so you can keep going.

is there a way to run 2 instances of the game and join myself in LAN for better xp/items?

I believe you could in the first, so you should be able to. Might not be able to launch 2 from steam, so if it doesn't work try directly launching the game exe again from file explorer.

Out of curiosity, has anyone been noticing a crazy amount of eye fatigue while playing the game? Maybe I need to adjust a setting, but man... my eyes are feeling a bit fatigued (still), and I haven't been playing that much. Only 4 hours the first day and 2 the second.

Has anybody had anybody jump into their open game?

Nope, I limited mine to invite only.

I'm having slightly more trouble at times, but that's because this game is throwing more charging mobs at you at once. Borderlands 1 had the Skaggs at the beginning, but they usually came out of their hovels at a much slower pace and took significantly less to kill. Bullymog Brats are the only mobs that I can kill with a headshot with a sniper rifle.

When the game just puts a bunch of humans with guns on me, it's still easy peasy. Thinking about it... I should rename Maya to TheRedQueen (not sure if spaces are allowed), because I'm always taking off their heads! :awe:
