Boehner rejects Obama on date of Jobs speach

He should go ahead and give the speech anyway, but it wouldn't surprise me if Obama gives in to Republican demands. It's the only thing he seems to be good at.

He should for other reasons. I'm sure his schedule isn't wide open but there are plenty of other dates and times this could be done.

After the debt ceiling debacle and his statements that everyone should stay on the summer recess so they don't just come back early and pissed off it doesn't look good to do this on the first evening back and during the GOP debate (although it is one of MANY debates coming up).

It will be easy to paint him as an uncooperative shit disturber which is exactly the opposite of what every politician should be wanting at this point.

You do know that speeches don't create jobs, right? Attending this speech will do nothing for job creation.

Why does anybody think Congress is obligated to attend Presidential speeches anyways? We once had a President with enough sense to deliver the State of the Union in letter form because a speech would create too imperial a feeling for the President's office. The POTUS's office could use some more of that sensibility. The whole imperial President thing got really out of hand with GWB, and it hasn't improved since.

What happened to the tea party patriots in the house that kept the senate in session so fuckstain couldn't do any off session appointments without congressional approval? Obama wanted reps to stay home so he could pass his commies into office. Well fuck you obama.

What a gaggle of dickheads. Like most Americans are going to be torn between watching Obama's speech on some funding initiative and grant program and a silly debate between the GOP nuttery on how much the Fed sucks and how so not gay they are, and how hard they pray to stay so everyday.

Pretty sure the majority won't give a frak what either has to say and will flip to see what else is on. Odds on the office of the president to pull better ratings, but by only so much.

Obama should have waited to shoot bin Laden until the middle of the GOP convention.
 
It's this kind of shit that drives wedges between parties and keeps us from reaching any kind of resolution. Government requires compromise and you're not going to get much of that when you spit in one another's eyes. It looks like it was somewhat disrespectful of the WH to issue the request with such short notice. However, given the status of the economy and our need for something to be done the Republicans shouldn't be putting the thing on hold for a campaign debate.
 
Traditionally, the President asks Congress to address them. The President does not dictate to Congress when he will address them. A prior commitment was in place, the Republican Presidential candidate debate.

Boehner is showing no disrespect for declining.

Incidentally, this will be what, the third jobs plan from this administration? The first two failed, so what, third time's the charm?
