Boehner rejects Obama on date of Jobs speach

I still don't *get* why any of you want to use this to argue for "your side". If Obama had a plan to put Americans back to work, solve the jobs problem, he can get a media address out to the country within an hour. He can do it any time he wants. Obama is doing an address to congress so he can have the cameras, have all the Democrats cheering his every word. Basically, the job Obama is most concerned about is his own. This is a political stunt to boost the party.

But then on the other hand, Boehner rejects the date because it conflicts with the GOP debate. The GOP primarily focused on keeping their own jobs too.

I guess GOP has more important things to do than the economy, which they've done precisely nothing about except undermine it since they took the House.

So after all this time we're supposed to believe there is going to be some miraculous announcement of a plan in this speech? I hope he can change his rhetoric and actually talk about anything concrete and factual.

What seems to have happened is the White House announced the schedule, Rush Limbaugh played a power game demanding Boehner refuse it, Bohner did as told.

Neither the White House nor Bohner would look good saying that's what happened.

They dispute the confirmation of the date before that.

Rush Limbaugh has no business with that kind of influence - he's useless, a demagogue.

I flat-out don't believe that. That sounds like some tripe from MoveOn.org.

Recently I've only been able watch news/commentary on MSNBC and CNN. Listening to people such as Frank Rich, Chris Cilliza (sp?), mostly moderate to dem leaning. (Oh, I've also seen Ed Shultz who went ballistic at the Repubs, but he's another matter).

From listening to these people this whole thing is overblown and some sort of screw up on the Obama side. They're questioning his staff. Perhaps Obama himself didn't realize the date of the Repub debate, can't blame him since he's got plenty on his plate, but his staff should have.

99% of people realize you can't just reschedule or cancel the debate, and even many of the Dem strategy types don't believe it's a good idea to have the two compete with each other on TV. They've also said if Obama did intend to challenge the Repubs, then it would been damn stupid to back down so quickly (I.e., not go ahead with his speech on Weds.).

None of it makes sense to most people in Washington DC who follow this stuff, at least according to what many of them are saying themselves.

I'm inclined to believe there was some sort of screw up/miscommunication somewhere and we'll never get the real info, that's just the nature of politics.

By your own reckoning Rush is very useful as a demagogue. You might be giving him a little too much credit, but even in doing so you make a very strong case for Rush's usefulness (to somebody at least if not the forces of sanity). The question of whether he is beneficial is another matter!
