I've done another character as lone survivor, with the threaded cane and blunderbliss. The cane is faster than the cleaver but does less damage. With this character origin you have a bit more endurance.

Still, I can not reach the second save point. I feel like I'm playing it wrong. I guess there are some shortcuts to take or something of that nature. Checked YouTube and of course there are.

I've spent about an hour or more getting further in the level looking for another save point. I didn't find one and then I died to some huge oger looking thing. I was pissed to say the least but each time I died I got better at traversing through the beginning part.

If I can recall, dark souls had other save points in the areas, near bosses. Bloodborne doesn't seem to have any until after one of the bosses in the area. I find this annoying more than anything. Especially when enemies can swarm you and you start from the beginning after death.

Apparently you have to trick the enemies into 1v1 and take them out that way. You can actually skip one of the bosses in the area I just don't know how yet.

Also, to level up you have to meet a boss and die at least, and you will get insight. This awakes the doll in the hunter's dream and allows you to use blood echoes to level up. After this you can farm blood echoes. I gotta find one of the bosses, figured I'd run into one already but nope.

You really need some patience to play this game. Its enjoyable but it forces you to strategize. I'm fine with that but starting over each time is annoying. Its so damn hard, the YouTube videos make it look like its a hack and slash.

There are notes around the city with lore about the area and story which helps explain some things but not a lot.

I'm not a fan of dying a ton, I like to just kinda play through games. Is there an easy setting so I don't have to waste a ton of time dying?

If you can overcome dying with really good strategy that I probably won't mind... but if it's just because it is too hard / certain scenarios, it will just annoy me.

No easy mode. Strategy is exactly how you play the game. The areas are so damn big that save points are sparse. If there is one thing I don't like is having to start from the first save lamp and go all through the level not knowing where I should be heading. Obviously there are multiple paths and they all end up leading to the bosses, which one you pick is based on how you want to fight.

Next time I play I'll probably clear the beginning area and gun it to the next save zone..if that's even possible without beating the boss.

I guess why I'm having issues is I can't level up without insight and the only way to get insight is to find a madman's skull or meet a boss, be killed or kill a boss.

Whoa... just.... whoa.
Lol get your head out of the gutter.. Bathroom break, get a drink , refill my ecig.

Looks like there is no other save point until after you beat the cleric beast. Damn I don't know if I'll be able to do it. Just fighting through the whole level each time just to get to the boss is a pain. I got to experiment with the weapons more.

Haha, get YOUR head out of the gutter. I was shocked the wait was that long every time you die. Perv

Yeah the loading times are ridiculous, is everyone using a disc copy of the game here? I wonder if the digital version is any better with that. I'm getting pretty good at going through the normal guys in the first area and I've found a few different ways through that make it easier. I think I should be able to complete it but I didn't really get to play last night so we'll see tonight when I get a chance to play again.

What's your build set up? I am using a disc too. I figured they would have fixed it with the 2.6gb patch.

I'm not playing it until they fix the loading times. I already quit Dark Souls games too quickly and don't need help.

I've been using the threaded cane and blunderbuss but I forget which background I chose. I've mostly been using the cane in the whip mode, the range makes it pretty easy to kill the normal crazy townspeople and I've just been saving my blunderbuss for when groups of a few guys rush me, It doesn't do much damage but if you stun them at the right time you can kill multiple guys with the cane after that. I've found if you go a certain way you can avoid the bulk of the townspeople or sneak up behind them while they're patrolling the main street. I've gotten back behind the big locked door a few times but got killed while I was looking around. I thought the big guy pounding on the door would just keep beating on it but I turned around at one point to him running up to beat me down which didn't last long...

I don't think the patch did much for the loading times, I played a little before and a little after and it didn't seem to change at all.

But aren't the games running off of the HDD, with the disc just serving as a permissions check, like on the One? If so, going digital might help in a TIIIIINY bit for initial start-up (not checking for the disc's code), but the game's long load times wouldn't be affected.

Also, are you guys still on the stock HDDs? Wonder if the 7200-RPM solutions people use make it tolerable.

I'm using a 1tb 7200 hard drive I believe. I don't think it helps much. The installs on the ps4 are quick and it still reads from disc. Mlb 15 has long loading times too.

The big oger guy appears again in that section, but if you don't take him down he follows you when you go up the stairs to deal with the bad guys there. I can't seem to get good hits with the cane in whip mode. I've heard shortcuts you find stay open even after dying. So I need to open some that way I don't have to go through the level again unless I need to farm.

If loading times are so bad when you die, stop dying and that fixes that problem. >_>
I can't help that haha. Sucks when I carefully traverse the area for an hour and a half to find a save lamp and i get killed, having to do it all over again. I wouldn't mind if the loading was quick like the souls games.

Mine is digital, the load times are as painful as the disk version of Wolfenstein.

Then again mine are compounded since I'm also a PC gamer with SSD's

This game is not for you then. Just like romantic comedies are not for me. Don't even try it no matter how hot the girl in the movie is.

If you go to your stats and press one of the buttons that I can't recall which exactly (it's on the bottom of the screen as what you can do in the stats menu), the game will tell you what class you initially chose.

Are you talking about the day 1 patch? I think that basically gave us the ability to play online.

The one for faster load times is coming soon I hope. It's a high priority issue but they will need to beta test it heavily as I think it may be a big software design change. All they need to do is cache the initial load state but depending on how the software is designed, this could be a HUGE headache.

Beat my first boss yesterday. Did it at level 20. Now at 22. Knowing how to beat the boss now though, I could have probably done it much earlier.

How do you level up? I keep playing the same level over and over and over but I can't level myself up at all. When I go to the hunters dream after farming blood bucks I don't see an option to level up. Do I need to level up before buying another weapon?

You can get the bloodXXXs (money equivalent) back if you go to the area you died. They will either be where you died in a red blood puddle or a nearby enemy will have picked them up and have glowing eyes. kill the enemy get your "money" back.

I know how to get them back and sometimes I do but I can't use them. Is there something I need to activate to be able to level up?

Stop running into groups of bad guys. You will die. You have to take them out one by one. Or in groups of 2-3 at most. If you have 10 guys coming at you, you need to know how to attack (extend ax and hold R2 for example). Some enemies are more susceptible to attacks than others. You have to figure all this out. If you just want to play Wolfenstein, go buy The New Order. It was a fun game and probably more up your alley.
