Yeah I understand but even the user reviews. Usually you see random 0 scores on game reviews this time it's random 10s with the review like "thank god for this marvelous game, it's the best." and so forth.
I guess I'm just looking for a review that is more neutral in tone. Can't find one. Looking forward to see what sze5003 thinks cause he probably felt the same I did about the souls series.
The 3 star amazon review in decent.
Here ya go
I think this game has been given a lot of praise for many reasons, though myself I think it's good not great. I'll just list the pros and con's of what I've liked. And in no way shape or form could I possibly play this for even 15 hours, let alone 60. I'm also 39 years old, so I guess the urge just isn't there anymore. Though i was pretty psyched to play it after my digital preorder. I liked Dark Souls I think just a little better than Demon Souls. So here's my opinion.
Pros
Good visuals, not quite as stunning as I'd like, though the character models look better than the environment overall. Very very close attention to detail, and fluid movements.
The story is meh, and it's not really mentioned to much in reviews, but then again I don't think many delve into an engrossing story with a game like this.
Interesting character customisation at the beginning, much like a sports game, or Skyrim. Face mods, hair, skin, weight etc. Though i'm not sure why so many since your character wears a hat, and you can't really see his body. I made mine bald, so it was a bit pointless.
I didn't fully understand the character "origin", but it was also pretty cool. There is actually one called Waste Of Skin, which gives you very little in the way of anything. I'm guessing you'd die even easier if you chose that.
Great atmosphere, the gothic, victorian back drop definitely adds to the intensity. As does the really good sound quality, (in the background, distance as well) This gloomy them is becoming very popular. I still think "Thief", even though average had the best "atmosphere" of any of the old school, mid-evil type games.
I like the fact that upgrading weapons, abilities etc. isn't overwhelming. Just enough to toughen you up.
Cons
A few framerate drops here and there. Nothing drastic
Your firearm really seems useless, as it barely even stuns most enemies
The difficulty is even well, worse than Demon Souls/Dark Souls, no shield or any kind of defense this time around. You just have to learn to dodge and pray you don't get hit.
Some enemies just jump out and kill you without you knowing it, other than a few warning from the skeleton messengers.
Very wonky camera, the faster you move the faster it moves, or to slow. Can give you a headache after a while. Probably the most disappointing thing about the game.
Controls can be sluggish, depending on which weapon you choose. Using the large axe cause great damage one handed, great with two hands but is very slow to respond. I regret not going with the smaller "saw blade cleaver" from the beginning.
Game can get very repetitive, which is to be expected with a game like this, also it's just far to long for my tastes. 20 hours would be plenty.
Honestly, as I mentioned above, not as graphically splendid as I had hoped. The Order was short and a lot of QT events, so I think it looked twice as good. and IMO, was a little more fun. And way more story driven.
Long load times, not nearly 40 seconds as "one site" in particular state though.
Lastly a few areas where you get stuck, usually breaking something around you can get you freed. Happened about 5 times to me.
So is Bloodborne a bad game? No it's just an average one, and I don't really get why critics, and "most" fans alike give it such high praise. It's definitely not the holy grail of Exclusives IMO. But then again I thought Demon/Dark Souls where both overrated as well. I'm sure once people keep playing the same game for 100 hours or however long they like, they will start to get bored of it. It definitely doesn't have the massive amount of content that Skyrim, or Dragon Age Inquisition have. But it is good for a bit of hack and slash bloody fun. Also I actually think it's humorous that it just disclaims on the screen "You Died", much like Resident Evil's "You Have Died". I guess that's what makes it such a challenge. Though I'm really not up for it anymore. I had my fun, now I'm ready to move on. We need a new Golfing Franchise to go along with these kinds of games. To break the monotony. Also I will add Sony need to step it up with the Exclusives, I spend way more time on Xbox One playing FH2, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall etc. Even after about a year. Now Uncharted, sadly isn't coming until 2016. Oh well.
