Bleeding Nipples

Ok so I've got this chaffing issue when I jog and I've tried wearing different shirts / tanktops but it doesn't make much difference. Vaseline helps but it stains my shirts and I'm really not too keen about having dark stains over the nipples on all my workout clothes.

So I guess what I'm looking for is suggestion on fabrics that won't chaff as much as the cotton/poly blends I've been wearing. Also if there are some other sport lube products that don't stain I'd love to give them a try. Thanks for any suggestions.

haha I got this when I used to run. Put duct tape over your nipples. Way cheaper than going out and buying a bunch of new shirts.

yeah long runs can be painful for the nipples. I've even had them bleed. There is a product called bodyglide that is supposed to be good for running induced chafing. I'll be buying some of that for my long runs soon.

I never heard of it before so thanks Mega

It lists surfing, and I hate rash guards, so maybe this will stop nipple rash for me as well. I always get it when I've been out the water a while, or have procrastinated on stripping and waxing my boards.

++ to bodyglide. I use that for all shorter runs (<20 miles). I've found that after 3+ hours, it will rub off.

For 20+ miles, I usually use band-aids, they come off a bit easier then the above mentioned duct tape :) I also use band-aids if it's raining, I found that soaked shirts rub more.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm going to give that body glide and the underarmor shirt a try.

I've had the same problem when I don't wear a wetsuit. I also hate rash guards and just deal with it. I usually don't notice until I'm done and look in a mirror. I'm not sure if a topical is going to help for surfing though.

Bodyglide doesn't help this problem for me, though it does for some. Material is important, but any run of any length at all I just put on two bandaids. the little circular ones come 50-100 to a box. Just do it and not worry.

 Pretty much this, although I use plain Vaseline for shorter runs (it's also good for preventing underarm, groin and testicle chafing). I run in all polyester, wicking shirts, so even if there is a slight Vaseline stain after a run, it always comes out in the wash without pretreating.

I always use bandaids if its raining, no matter how long the run is.

LOL, the Red Green approach! Probably good for waxing the rest of your chest too :p.

True. But I sweat so heavily that it looks like it's raining while I'm running. Sucks.

Just "raining"? LOL, when I come back from a tempo run it looks like I fell in a nearby pool. It just means you're well hydrated :).

Ok, well when the sweat dries do you look like you covered your skin with flour? My dogs love it when I come in after a long run, I'm like a giant salt lick. :p

Nipples

Bad quality but funny if you've seen that episode.

I've never run more than a half marathon and haven't had the problem myself. I wear light poly shirts when I run and sweat a ridiculous amount, so I guess I'm well lubricated or just haven't run far enough to encounter it.

I use body glide on my inner thighs because I have big legs and they sometimes rub together. Come to think of it, this hasn't been a problem the last few months, bit of leg shrinkage, not enough heavy squatting in CrossFit :(.

band-aids. I always make sure to put band-aids on my nipples if I am going to wear a shirt while running and its raining. (I usually go shirtless unless its under 50 or so, and then the cold plus a wet shirt makes for a rough ride for my poor nips)

Haha, yep, I've had a few runs like that. But it's more like a thin white line on my shirt and on my cheeks below my sunglasses.

On most runs I don't experience that, but I've really been trying to cut down on my sodium intake. I get far more than enough even with all the sweating.

Body Glide and bandaides work for a while. Rain is the biggest issue. Washes the BG off and cause the bandaides to come loose.

Best solution for me was using a compression shirt. Ran a full marathon, a large portion in the rain and had no issues at all. Previous marathon, bandaides came off in the rain. Result were two long dark streaks on my white shirt and very painful showers for the next 3 or 4 days.
