Reach and CoD both show that once great game franchises can have really crappy sequels and still make millions of dollars from all the idiots out there...

Black Ops isn't a sequel to any game...it's technically a brand new title, with a complete different studio and setting. I smell hater^^^

The engine for Black Ops is a revamped version of the MW2 engine.

Treyarch have given an insight into the enhancements they’ve made to the game engine for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Speaking on the official blog, they talk of lighting, physics, explosive effects and character details (amongst other things) and use superlatives like “photo-realistic” and “mind-blowing” to describe the improvements. Really? This stuff is going to blow my mind? Lets hope so Treyarch.

Check out the post below, or head to the official blog.

“At the beginning of each project, the team at Treyarch digs in and goes to work on engine enhancements with a focus on supporting the demands of the new environments and gameplay for our next title. For Black Ops, it was important to the team to have incredible photo-realistic lighting, huge draw distances, explosive destruction and effects, and mind-blowing character details.”

We completely re-tooled the lighting system from soup to nuts, integrated texture streaming which makes levels like “Payback” possible, and provided our artists the tools and platform they needed to create stunning characters with detail down to their pores! We also went big overhauling the physics, jungle, water, and fire tech – the list goes on and on. You can see what we’re talking about from our gallery, but no screenshot even comes close to what you’ll be experiencing November 9th 2010!”

It is basically the same thing. When it makes them billions of dollars why would they change it? It makes sense for them to keep it basically the same. Great if you love it but I'm personally sick of it. I pre-ordered Modern Wardare 1 and loved it but now it's going to be the same game 4x just with different setting.

Every release of CoD since MW 1 has basically been a texture pack with a map pack thrown in.

I can't believe how popular these games are now compared to how lazy the development of them is. Screw Activision.

Screw the people who buy these shitty games.

Video games went too mainstream. The frat boys who previously were "too cool" to play video games now buy shit like MW2 because it's cool.

I laugh when people say PC gaming is dead. Sure, console games sell 10 bazillion copies. Doesn't mean the games are any good.

You wouldn't be calling shitty if you were activsion and the last game of the series made you nearly a billion dollars. I myself only played MW1 & 2 for the campaign, but black ops MP seems more original and promesing. Plus, pretty much all my friends play CoD...so might as well join the party. It's like being sober at a college party...notice i said PARTY...

I spent $60 On Modern Warfare 2 and played it through on the hardest difficulty. I think it was a 8hourish playthrough.

It was $7.5 dollars per hour, which is roughly what a Movie ticket costs.

Considering that's what Single Player COD basically is - an interactive movie - you get a satisfying deal equivalent to a Movie.

Though it could be played through again, I don't really have any desire nor any need to since I got my money's worth. It was a fun game.

Crysis, Farcry etc... I couldn't play through more than an hour on those POS.

I agree. Despite all of the hatred towards MW2, I enjoy it - even the online play. It's far from perfect, and even I would have preferred to spend about $20 less on the game, but overall I don't have any major complaints. Hackers suck, lack of dedicated servers suck, etc., but the core game is quite fun.

The single player campaign wasn't as good as COD4, IMO, but it was still entertaining. New weapons, settings, kill streaks, etc. helped to keep it fresh. The Spec Ops missions are quite challenging and still fairly fun. Best of all, they're just a free added bonus.

Overall, I've gotten more enjoyment out of MW2 for the $60 I spent than I am out of Far Cry 2 for the $5 or $10 (whatever it was) or even Dragon Age: Origins for $45. That's not to say DA: O isn't a good game - it is - it just doesn't hold my attention as well.

That's not very nice. You know PC gaming really would be dead if we didn't buy the games we liked.

Video games went too mainstream. The frat boys who previously were "too cool" to play video games now buy shit like MW2 because it's cool.

What's wrong with being mainstream? And have you considered that people play MW2 because they *gasp* like it?

I laugh when people say PC gaming is dead. Sure, console games sell 10 bazillion copies. Doesn't mean the games are any good.

Sure it does. Just because you don't like a game doesn't mean it isn't good.

I agree with this. I played MW2 on the 360 first, and I really enjoyed it, but lost all interest when the hackers came.

Later I got it on the pc, and within a day I was level 70 10th prestige. *yawn* I actually really liked MW2, but hackers killed it for me. We wouldn't have these problems had activision stuck with dedicated servers on the PC. (On both accounts, PC hacks made their way to the 360}
