I'm on the fence with this game. I read great reviews about most of the game but all of the reviews have something in them that makes me think twice about picking it up. Now that some of you have been playing it for a bit, do you recommend it? I'm an mmo vet since EQ and I'm not currently playing one. I've got the itch to play one but nothing currently grabs my interest.

Have you checked out Rift? (fellow EQ player, Prexus server)

I highly recommend doing it. Very addicting.

Yah. I played it for a long time when it came out. I feel like I've played them all. I was thinking of going back to an old one but nothing is grabbing my attention.

OK. Rift has added lot if you haven't played in a while.

Can't recommend much else. Plated Elder Scrolls online a few hours, LOTRO a few hours, D&D Online long ago, Fallen Earth, all have some nice but don't jump out.

Been meaning to get to some I bought like The Secret World - I've bought and not played several before they shut down from Auto Assault to Star Wars Galaxies to Sims Online.

I kickstarted that upcoming Richard Garriott MMO, which has a big development, but not sure about it, seems hugely monetized.

So many things cost so much - just deeds of land and homes on them can cost several thousand dollars.

This game will die just like Guild wars 2. I can garenteeeeeee you that. Get hyped for 2 weeks MAX and boooooom dis game will die. If you want serious MMO play FF14 nuff said. Hatererz come at me, you know what I'm saying is true.

GW2 is dead? Might want to show your work there buddy. The eSports thing they are trying isn't exactly taking off like they had hoped, but the move to F2P has helped the payer base significantly.

WildStar on the other hand is certainly a game that is in trouble. That one will likely die in a year or 2 if they don't make some significant changes to it's boring PvE.

I am lvl 51 and bored to death.....just like I thought...nothing to do but accumulate $ and slowly lvl to 55

Guild Wars 2 WvW is dead. Every change they've made to WvW has been poorly received and further killed the only interesting game mode. Now all they do is promise fixes that revert everything they've done so far.

WvW is in a bad place, I'll admit that. They are going to lay some ground work for bigger changes in the next big update. Here is hoping they can turn that around. But I disagree that it is the only interesting game mode. It is in fact my least liked mode overall and that is not because of the current state. I've played WoW, GW1, and EQ2 and I like GW2's PvE the most.

It is a million miles from EQ, which for me is really bad because I still love EQ. The main difference is that mobs go splat in 1 hit. And that's not exaggeration, I played the first 13 levels and EVERY SINGLE mob I went up to it and pressed F and the mob died in one hit. It seems that even mages can backstab if you attack a mob from behind and one backstab is enough to splat a mob. The mobs are also dumb and just wander around and ignore you. Like most modern MMO's most of them are not aggro until later in the game, and even when aggro ones did finally show up, they don't react quickly, so I could still just walk up behind them and press F and watch it splat in a shower of blood and particles.

At 13 there was a quest to kill a big bad boss mob with a group, and everyone seems to just do it by themselves. For that fight I had to dive around by double tapping the keys and pressing 123 to shoot my magic lazerbeams of uberness and it died soon enough. I quit after that. I am sure later on the mobs will get a bit tougher, but I know how these kinds of games work, they are about rounding up 10+ mobs in a big group and then AoE'ing them all to death with huge lightning bolts and meteor storms or whatever. I have played a lot of MMO's just like that and they just aren't for me. I think most people will not be so annoyed by that type of combat though. I have played a lot of Action RPG's and splatting mobs and vacuuming up the loot is what a lot of people seem to like, so I am sure the combat wont bother a lot of people, but for me it was mindless and I got bored right away.

The rest of the game seems ok though. There are some tradeskills like most MMORPG's, but this game takes it a bit further than most because you can do some extra things like setting up your own trade routes and running your own farm. Apparently it is attracting a lot of Farmville players because it works in a similar way. That's not really for me though. I would be interested in that if I wanted the money to go towards something fun in the long term, I grinded for plat and items in EQ for many years after all. But I saw no long term stuff that enticed me in this game so the tradeskills didn't interest me either.

Also I really don't like the art style with cutesy asian characters all giggling and making ^.^ faces and whatnot. I don't like that style at all, and the interface is full of junk too. Again, I think most modern MMO players wont even notice this, but when you come from EQ with the minimal UI it is kind of horrifying seeing the stuff using every inch of the screen and particles everywhere and flashy lights and sounds etc.

Also the graphics were a let down for me. Up close everything looks really good (ignoring the art style). The textures and models are all really high detail and everything looks colourful but good quality. The issue is that beyond about 100 feet or so, everything is a blurry finger painting. Again, a lot of people wont even notice this because you tend to only be looking at the mob you are fighting and your own character and all that looks good, but I like long distance views and not many games do that well, and this one really had no intention of even trying with that.

So yeah, I really didn't like it at all, but I suppose I am not the target audience. I think many will and I'll just have to wait for Pantheon or something like that.

Blurriness was probably an in-game graphics setting called Screen Filter being enabled.

Theres a lot to do you're trippin. I just got into a sick guild. Make so much money grinding Sausans.
That's my point...nothing to do but grind for money....and it's getting boring as shit..built a fishing boat, I've built a trading cart, I've got millions upon millions in various banks.....and nothing to do, when are they opening up node wars?

Only thing left to do is afk weight train and horse breeding and I'm not really interested in it, I'm interested in the guild vs guild stuff but again...those that grinder the longest will win as the game is all about gear....

Has an MMO satisfied you?

How does end game gear/power progression work? When people talk about having to grind and grind - do they mean grinding for money to buy rare, expensive armor and weapons? Are those crafted? Why are they so rare?

Or do they mean grinding for levels past 50? Is player lvl the biggest factor in PvP strength?

You enchant your weapons and past 7 for weapons and 5 for armor they start to fail. The max you can enchant at the moment is +15 , the stones for the entire hand men's can be earned through loot, dailies or bought at the marketplace, if you fail an enchant your weapon/armor takes dmg which can be repaired. I saw a piece of jewelry hit the marketplace for 72 million today, +15 agerian helmet was 25 million. A 1 lvl advantage can be pretty big unless you have a lot of accuracy stacked. After lvl 50 it starts to take a bit longer to lvl but the media expansion opened up higher level mobs to grind for xp.

The stones used to enchant the armor go for around 300,000 and 400,000 min on our server and you will need a lot 🙂

Was looking to try this game out to see if its worth a purchase. If anyone can send a guest pass my way it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
