I remember occasionally needed to blow into a cartridge or less often the system, but it always worked. I have never been in a situation where I had a game in hand and I couldn't play it.

My mistake on the Sony-Nintendo-Gamecube thing.

Anyway, if there's anyone around here that hasn't bought Zelda yet and wants a bonus disc, I just got a copy from a Gamespot B&M

CaptainPete, I'm interested in your bonus disc. Or were you just giving us a heads up? But if you want to sell it to me, please PM me (and turn on your PM too so I won't have to post this in the thread to contact you).

Cripes...by the time the disc reader fails a new GC will cost $49.95.

Nope, I had a hell of a time trying to track down a bonus disc after the pre-order ended, so I'm going to hold on to mine for a while. Just a heads-up in case anyone else was looking for one and didn't want to pay ridiculous ebay prices (I've seen some going for $30+!).

(Got shafted by samgoody.com on my pre-order, which they cancelled the day of the release. Bastards! I spent a hectic tuesday searching around for somewhere that had the bonus discs, but finally gave up and just bought a copy without it because I wanted to play the game! It was only last night that I found the gamestop that had some, so now I've got two copies of the actual game. I just hope that I don't get the same cashier when I return it, since I probably looked really desparate when I bought it on Tuesday).

Yea I'm really surprised about the market value of the bonus disc. This auction went for $70 and the bidder has a perfect feedback rating...probably legit. I got the disc with a $15 deposit. Still haven't picked up Wind Waker yet - that's on my to do list for tomorrow.

Have you tried Target/Walmart? Both sell their controllers for less than $20 retail, the Target I work at is fully stocked (and we have a ton in the back too).

Well I tried 2 Targets and neither will price match Circuit City. This is a bumber.
Yeah, Target and BB/CC aren't "like stores" so we're told not to price match them. Lame if you ask me, but I guess that's why I'm not running the place :p.

man my target is weak when it comes to GC stuff, i went there yesterday the only thing they had was smugglers run for $19.99, but they had a mixman dm2 for $19.99 & pc games (operation flashpoint, ultima online, moto racer 3, delta force, commance 4 for 3.97-7.97). This is the one in Gaithersburg MD.

Yeah, Nintendo products have always been rock solid.
Dude...have you ever owned an NES?

Of course I have, I wouldn't be talking about it if I hadn't. I've used it two different countries (with a voltage transformer) for many years. I bought it 1987 and it still works, I have used it for hours on end. I haven't even heard of reports of those things dying, why has yours died?

I've had a few front-loading NES-es go a bit whacky on me -- it has to do with cartridge alignment and/or contamination. Sometimes it's the inner metal "cage" that the cart slides into. When it goes out of alignment, the cartridge will misalign and cause either graphical distortion or the game just won't start. This can also be caused by dust or other contaminants, either on the cartridge or the contacts inside. However, you can usually get it going with a bit of fiddling around -- I've never had one "die" outright.

The top-loading NES solved all these issues for me. Other than the original front-loader, I would concur that Nintendo hardware is rock-solid (and even the front loader is still working after all these years). The SNES was an amazingly durable and solid piece of hardware, all have been all the Game Boy incarnations (look at the beatings those things take !). N64, too (though again, sometimes affected by dust or cartridge alignment problems).

Overall, the big "N" builds a pretty sturdy piece of equipment, IMO.

All this talk of how reliable Nintendo systems are reminds me of the terrible time I had buying my GC. I had to buy and return 2 GCs before I got one that worked. The first 2 I bought were DOA! Neither spun up the discs. After this ordeal, I wrote Nintendo a letter about what happened and I got a phone call from Nintendo Tech Support 2 months later asking if I need help connecting my GameCube.

I think I can connect a game system to a TV, your products were just defective, which I clearly explained in my letter! :| No letter of apology, no offer to reimburse me for the hours I spent travelling back and forth from Toys R Us with their defective products, just a call to help out the retard who can't figure out how to connect a video game console to a TV.

Anyways, I love my GC, and now that I have one that actually worked out of the box, it never gives me any problems. :)

Finished updating list. Mostly a cleanup of dead game prices.

Resident Evil 0 - Wired Lounge $29.99 is the only thing I think is noteworthy

Also, noticed Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 has dropped to $29.99 in most stores.

First of all....pretty hot deal NBA Courtside on Costco.com for $9.77

Second, Nintendo has always seemed to make good equipment. The exception would be the front-loading NES as stated earlier, but that's because they really weren't planning on it's success and didn't build it to stay around this long. That's why the batteries for saving on the cartridges are giving out. I got all I could out of my system I remember blowing into that thing and the cartridges for all it was worth. Finally some wire behind the controller port came loose and I had to take off the top so I could wiggle the wire to get it to start after a while. Damn thing worked great even though I took half of it off. Nintendo has quality stuff.....unlike my PS2 which can't play dual-layered DVD's and the plastic on the front of the DVD tray has now fallen off. My XBox is only a couple months old, so nothing to complain about there.....yet.

Can they do that?

If any of you guys are Canadians, just a heads up that Super Mario Sunshine is only $29.99CDN at EB in-store.
That is the new price, not preowned.
I believe Eternal darkness is the same price too.

Heh heh... Since I think I'm mostly responsible for throwing us off track, I oughta contribute something on-topic again...

YMMV, of course. I've got two kinds of EB's in my area: Electronics Boutique mall stores and EBGames stand-alones (like in strip malls). The latter seems to do more price cutting than the former. One remarkable deal I noticed is the InterACT 16x Memory Card marked down to $15, but you could also get that price on the Nyko one at Best Buy with the $5 coupon. If you're in the market for a GB-based MP3 player, the SongPro is only $75 at EBGames, whereas the mall EB is still $100 or they're too lazy to mark it down (which might be quite likely as I've gotten quite a few Dreamcast things for cheaper at the register).

And of course the whole reason I was looking at those big memory cards... Burnout 2 for only $40, whereas the PS2 and Xbox versions are $50; ships April 8 (all numbers according to the EB site). Of course you can match that with your favorite coupon.
