For those of you interested in the Platinum Gamecube, I bought a second gamecube this week (I know I'm a freak) for my living room to compliment my silver TV and DVD player.

Anyhow, I took the Circuit City flyer to the manager at Best Buy and he said he would pricematch the Gamecube and give me the free game just like CC. I figured if you were interested in a Platinum GC for $129 with a free game that might be a good way to go.

RECAP
Pricematch CC's $129 offer for GC at Best Buy. They even take an extra sweet 10% off the price difference :)

Just picked up
Smugglers Run
Tiger woods 2003
and
NFL2k3
for 27.10 with tax out the door from Ballbuster.

Tiger and NFL look absolutely brand new, and smugglers has the barest hint of a scratch. I am more than pleased.

Damn, I missed that flyer. I'll have to have my friend pick one up. Is it on a seperate flyer, or is it one of those coupons thats in the middle of a catalog?

One of them is $25 MIR for Pokemon + GBA. The other one is the $5/$15/$25 rebate form. :)

:| :| gah! I was looking right AT that thing, but I read the pokemon coupon, and then for some reason didn't look at the next one.

I posted this deal awhile ago.. its online as well..

Anyone know how much BB or CC's replacement warranty is for the cube? I'm so glad I got it for my PS2 since it died on me!

You guys have some great Blockbusters by you. All I ever see is crap for 19.99-29.99 at the one I check.

same here... hehe... you all make it sound like blockbuster is the place where it's at... but from the couple visits i've made, i've only seen used games being overpriced (more expensive than new elsewhere)

Confirmed that CircuitCity.com, BestBuy.com, and Best Buy B&M all have Tiger Woods 2003 for $19.99.

CC.com and BB.com have free shipping for the lazy, and Best Buy B&M will let you use the Gamer's Card coupon to get the game for $14.99 + tax... your choice, both nice deals on a fun game!

No answer for you, but I don't think you'll need warranty on the Cube as much so on the Sony product. Sony is notorious for planned depreciation (grrr...not sure if that's the proper term...) on their cheap stuff. Bottom line is that Sony's cheap-in-price products also tend to be still overpriced and also low quality; the only guarantee to get a quality Sony product is to go all-out, no-expense-spared. Unfortunately the PS2 falls in that category of cheap-in-price (relative to complexity of the components), and cheap-in-quality (hence the corner-cutting). I once heard that about a third of all PS sales were for replacements. In case you didn't know, that new Nintendo-centric Capcom studio fronted by RE-creator Shinji Mikami was created out of his personal spite over having wasted $600 of personal money on two PS2's and having them die. His anger is that of a ripped-off consumer. Mind you I'm not talking about games at all, just the integrity of the hardware. I certainly hope Sony finally makes a system that will properly read discs without having to be turned sideways...

[/end rant]

Well I went to BB last night and got the Mario Sunshine bundle and Mario Party 4 as my free game. They also had a 10% off coupon in their ad wich I used and then also bought a 2 year replacement warranty for the unit and it's controller and memory card. hehehe looks like all my future controllers will be indigo too.

Yeah, Nintendo products have always been rock solid. Have you read about someone accidently running over their NES with their minivan and the NES still worked. Anyway, the guy at BB tried to scare me by saying the GC was Nintendo's first disc based system and I should consider the extended warranty. My GC has operated without a single disc error and I use that thing for hours at a time. I sometimes leave it on pause and go to sleep and it works fine. In addition I haven't read a single report of a failed GC (I'm sure it happens, but I haven't read about it).

My Xbox on the other gives me disc read errors all the time, and I need to clean the lens with a lens cleaning disc before it works right again for a couple of weeks. Sometimes I wish I got the extended warranty for it, given that MS markets it's extended service plan so heavily and sells it for $50. Talk about not having confidence in your own hardware.

As for PS2 I have heard quite a few reports about PS2 issues, and people just going out and buying new ones. In fact with the original PS it was estimated that the majority of the original model PS machines died and people went out and bought new ones. Even with PS2 the original model has been known to have issues read discs and playing certain DVDs. Yes, paying a premium for Sony stuff in general is a bad idea. Read about the DVP-ns315 DVD player on www.Audioreview.com and see why so many people wish they'd bought the $100 Toshiba model instead. BTW, I have one of those quality no expense spared Sony products and it needed to be sent back to Sony for repairs. Thankfully it has a 5-year warranty, and they actually take care of you very well on warranty repairs of their no expense spared products.

Got my Gamecube at Target with Mario Sunshine as the free game with the 251 memory card for 149. The BB that was around fussed at me saying that they wouldn't give me the free game with the Mario Sunshine bundle....also they said the Free game deal was also totally off and that the date on the expiration of the deal was wrong!!!!!!! They made me totally mad so I just went to Target. The guy that worked there had one himself and helped me out quite a bit. :)

The horrible Best Buy im talking about BTW is the one in Chattanooga, TN. :D

I got a spice controller from Costco.com for that price shipped, but that was a few weeks ago. I looked on the Costco.com site and it is no longer listed.

In case you didn't know, that new Nintendo-centric Capcom studio fronted by RE-creator Shinji Mikami was created out of his personal spite over having wasted $600 of personal money on two PS2's and having them die.

Another tidbit I read from "The History of Video Games" book. Not too relevant to the situation on hand, but I found it interesting. Sony was originally the company that was supposed to license the optical disc technology that the Gamecube was going to use, but Nintendo backed out of the deal at the last minute and went with Philips or Panasonic or something like that. Sony, after learning a lot about consoles with their brief partnership with Nintendo, decided to say "f@ck it! I'm making my own console." And hence the PlayStation. I'm sure Nintendo has been kicking themselves in the butt ever since. :)

Has anyone had any luck finding Gamecube controllers at Costco for $9.77?!?!?

I bought it online last week and it arrived this week. I also went to my local retail Costco but I didn't see any Gamecube stuff.

Dude...have you ever owned an NES?

Of course I have, I wouldn't be talking about it if I hadn't. I've used it two different countries (with a voltage transformer) for many years. I bought it 1987 and it still works, I have used it for hours on end. I haven't even heard of reports of those things dying, why has yours died?

The cheap costco.com cube controllers are gone. =( I bought a spice one when I first heard about the deal then went back a couple days ago to get a black one and they were nowhere to be found. I've never seen video game accessories in an actual costco, only the system bundles and games. I wish that you could order online and pickup at the store, the `plus shipping and handling' that you usually have to pay really takes a bite out of what are generally good prices.

Anyway, if there's anyone around here that hasn't bought Zelda yet and wants a bonus disc, I just got a copy from a Gamespot B&M (the one in Sugarhouse, Salt Lake City if anyone around here is interested). They seemed to have quite a few actually (ok, 4-5 or so). KBToys.com and ebgames.com also still claim to send you the bonus disc if you order from them. store.nintendo.com also has a Zelda package: $69.99 for Zelda, the bonus disc, the official player's guide and a year's subscription to Nintendo Power w/2nd day shipping. Not really that great a deal, since the regular price for 1 year of Nintendo Power if $19.99 and you get a free game guide, and the game is $49.99...but you're guaranteed a bonus disc.

Surely you don't mean Gamecube? Hav0c99 has it right. It was an attachment to the SNES that Nintendo was developing with Sony. After they saw how poorly the Sega CD was received and because they couldn't come to terms with licensing terms - apparently Sony wanted more control than Nintendo was willing to give - they backed out. There are rumors that Sony used technology from the console that Nintendo and Sony worked on jointly, but in reality the Playstation is a completely different design. On the other hand there's no doubt that they learned a lot from Nintendo. I'm sure Nintendo regrets pulling out on one side, but I'm sure they're happy to have to only answer to themselves.

yeah the NES was poorly designed I remember those days as a kid and blowing into my system and into the cart to try to get it to come on sometimes. Eveybody was doing that but the issue was with the mechanism not dust. I have the smaller revised nes wich works flawlessly!

Best deal on the controllers right now is probably to do a 110% pricematch against BB or CC from one of the B&M stores that sell them for ~$20 (Target and K-Mart do I believe, along with walmart (online it's $19.86)). Granted, that's a lot of work for only $0.50 less. =( Now if you could get BB to pricematch and then let you use the gamer's $5 coupon...

If what you want is cool colors instead of cheap though, check out this place:

Cube controllers at Play-Asia.com

Whoa! Shipping is pretty evil, $15 for the `cheap' airmail option. I do like the look of the Emerald Blue controller, and the Silver one looks nice, but $40 is a little steep! (controllers are $24.90) They also have the japanese release of Soul Calibur II for the low, low price of $59.90 though, for those that can't wait. =) (+shipping...)

Anyway, for an actual hot deal: I just saw Smuggler's Run: Warzones at ebgames B&M for $12.99 new ($9.99 pre-owned) in my search for a Zelda bonus disc. Ended up pricematching them at CC, since I really don't like the way that EB opens all their games (OK, I believe that people steal the discs or the whole thing, but hell, I don't like buying something new that looks like it's been used).
