Biden supported anti-busing constitutional amendment

Biden was simply ahead of the climate change curve. He was against busing because of the increased CO2 it caused. The man is a creepy visionary.

That must be then”academic ferment” which @dank69 referred to in his post 100 and evidently compelled Biden to support it.

This seriously wasn't an issue that needed addressed. I don't feel Biden was on the wrong side of the debate when it took place all those years ago. She brought this up to try to paint him as a racist. She needs to stick to her platform and discuss those rather than trying to demonize the others in her party, especially when the context of what she was accusing wasn't really even correct to begin with.

That being said Biden didn't handle it well at all. There were many things he could have said to smooth it over to a degree and he didn't. He got defensive, which is most likely exactly what she was going for. That's a Trump tactic.

I agree with this although to me he handled it just fine. She like you said tried to paint the picture of him being a racist which he clearly isn’t and even managed to get some fake tears out in a much rehearsed "powerful" moment and he defended himself (got toungue tied a time or two but whatever) and then when she kept pressing like he was some kind of bad dude against civil rights you can tell he was getting rightfully pissed and he snapped back.

The approach Harris is taking won’t win her the general. Obama transcended all this when he ran. She's race baiting to get jabs in and there’s a lot of America that doesn’t want any part of that. That might get her a spot in the news the next day but it’s not something that will win her the presidency.

IMHO to completely bury this he should just acknowledge stories like this with a brief statement to the effect of:

“In the 1970s a lot of people including me were concerned about potential negatives from busing that never happened. I even went so far as to say I’d support a constitutional amendment to stop busing. That was an overreaction and I’m glad it didn’t happen. Im proud to see that citizens like Kamala Harris have benefited from desegregation actions like this, both then and since.”

Nice, simple, no lies or obstruction. And it will make him seem like he’s capable of still learning in his 70s. Viola, future attacks on that vector are neutralized.

Favorite part was with his response saying “I was a public defender. I didn’t become a prosecutor."

😀

Harris is a frickin snake, this election is the Dems to lose but I think she’s up to the challenge lol

You alt-whites would have a melt down if a black woman became president.

Yeah it would be much better if you nominate guys who support constitutional amendments based not on his own moral principles but rather logical fallacy? “Academic ferment” falls into appeal to authority, “lots of other people including blacks agreed” is appeal to popularity, the argument that “other Democrats only support it because racists oppose it” is false dichotomy (“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”)

He was simply against forced busing. Never against voluntary busing. Again, it's funny how you guys are always about states' rights until a Democrat is for them.

Is he looking to have states rights become a plank of the Democratic Party platform?

Would he not have voted for the 14th amendment unless they were voluntary? Or the 13th? Maybe removing all the other Jim Crowe laws should have been left up to states who volunteered also. I can really see where your logic is going with this one, sounds like a great campaign slogan for 2020. “Equality, if you’re cool with that. If not that’s fine too. Whatever works.”

Perhaps he just thinks the only time you should override states' rights is when a state or states are violating human rights?

BTW - If I were Biden's people I would go back and research Harris's story. I don't doubt she was bused but I have never known Berkley to be a poor community, therefore she would have been bused from a potentially good school to a not so good school. Why would a family want that? That may make her outrage kind of hollow.

West Berkeley was pretty shit for several decades. That part of town sits between El Cerrito--Richmond to the north, and Oakland to the south.

The hills are an entirely different world, of course.
