Yes, that would be rude. But that's not what's happening here, which is why I pointed out that crucial context was missing. A cyclist is part of the flow of traffic, unless your local laws state otherwise. In the scenario SA laid out, a cyclist is entitled and encouraged to hold his lane for safety purposes. There's nothing rude whatsoever about making sure some impatient self-important twit behind him makes a LEGAL pass that's safe for EVERYONE. For the same reasons you don't veer right in a car to assist someone else in a pass, neither does a cyclist. As others pointed out, I'm only going 15 MPH anyway. Passing me is a breeze. You just have to be willing to sacrifice a couple seconds of your life to not be rude yourself.

A ciclist going 15mph in a 45mph, holding up 20+ cars, is in no way 'in the flow of traffic.'

You need to realize that reality is outside the bounds of the law. The reality is that you're a selfish, obnoxious, rude, hindrance. A legal one, sure, but just like my list.... Legal doesn't make it right.

I don't believe anyone has an issue with bicyclists hugging the side, where they belong, and who are not blocking traffic.

The issue is primarily on 2-lane roads, when they hold up a lane of traffic intentionally blocking any passing, and refusing to pull over when there's room to allow traffic to pass.

Congratulations, you're a douche too.

You should be happy they are ringing a bell. First, it's a legal requirement in NY for bikes to be equipped with a bell, so they are following the law. And second, it's better than them yelling and simultaneously gives you a heads up that a bike is going to pass you, so you don't inadvertently walk into its path in at the last minute. Sometimes, pedestrians are douches on the shared paths, walking several across and blocking through traffic - just like you little babies cry about when a bike does it on the road.

Well fuck you. I dont cry when you assholes are on your bikes doing asshole shit. I just dont go out of my way to preserve your asses. If you run into my tire oh well, I can buff your blood from my car. Can you buff out my rubber? Skateboarders are getting on my hit list too. As for you asshole bikers ringing your bell, you dont ring it to warn me of shit. You ring it so I can move, I dont move, you fucking move around me assholes. Dont like it? Ride in the street and take your chances there. Or hit a real bike trail. Riding your bike at the south street seaport is stupid. Ride out to the country and fly down some real trails. City bike trails are stupid and i hope our next mayor gets rid of them.

The problem in a discussion like this is that a few people are willing to throw all logic, reason, and LEGAL OBLIGATIONS out the window in order to justify their irrational hatred.

You can bold, capitalize, italicize, and change the font of legal all you want and it won't change the facts of the reality of the situation.

There's a reason why motorists are by and large fed up with you and your group. Why don't you try to understand and fix these issues rather than trying to act like just because an action is not illegal it is all the sudden acceptable?

But that's the rub, isn't it. You categorically state that people on bikes are assholes. That is hardly the case.

Some people are assholes on bikes
Some people are assholes in cars
Some people are assholes as pedestrians

That does not mean that all or even a majority of those people in those groups are assholes.

I am well aware of the "you only see the bad ones" mentality, and that is not the case with bicyclists.

The vast majority.... 90%+... Who are on active roads are major assholes.

They refuse to ride on the side where there's space.

They refuse to pull over and allow faster traffic to pass.

They filter to the front at red lights, causing the entire dangerous 'passing cycle' to repeat itself.

And this rude, asinine behaviour seems to be supported by the entire group. With motorcyclists and other 'groups' they at least shun the idiots... But ciclists martyr them. It's hilarious, actually.

And neither will burying your head in the sand. You are wrong. The law says so.

And yes, I will keep smashing your face in it every way possible until you face "the reality of the situation."

There's a reason why motorists are by and large fed up with you and your group.

You keep appealing to this, but there are three problems with this:

1. It's your opinion
2. There is mounting evidence to the contrary, which I posted previously
3. Cyclists couldn't give a fuck what you think, just as you couldn't give a fuck what they think. What does matter is how the law is written and applied. Again, no debate here. What is, IS. That you keep trying to argue otherwise speaks volumes to your lack of intelligence and inability to set your emotions aside.

And earlier he said he supported cyclists' right to the road. Now he says they're not entitled to their lane.

Earlier he said the law was "blah blah blah", but when clobbered by the truth, he said he didn't care about the law.

If you're looking for logic or even a modicum of consistency in his posts, good luck.

More selfish, childish attitude.

I do care what ciclists think. I wish we could all get along, on the same roads. But as long as you all act like total assholes that will never, ever happen.

I absolutely don't believe your 'evidence'. Motorists are beyond fed up. I'm on the road quite a bit, I've never in my life seen so much rage and frustrations towards these assholes as I have over the last 3-4 years.

Motorists honk at them, buzz them, throw things at them.

Laws are quickly changing, forcing them to move over and allow cars to pass and forcing them to stay on the side of the roads.

For 10 years or so most motorists were 'on board' with the bicycles in the road crap, but people just like you ruined it for the group.

I will accept (not support) them being on the road, but they need to move over and allow traffic to pass OR stay on the edge of the road.

It's not rude if it's legal.
Not specific to the point, not all lawful actions are polite, I can't think of dozens upon dozens of them.

More specific to the point, holding up a lane (going slower than 15mph the posted limit) is illegal in many places, but like all laws vary by location. However this is a pretty constant rule, "go too slow, get a ticket". The threshold and exclusions vary.

Astute observation. Also very telling is that he managed to troll that thread into yet another bashing of cyclists.

Yet this guy tries to espouse "stepping back" and "seeing the whole picture"? LMFAO

C - All of the above? I'd say that's a given.

For the lulz, here's one of SA's responses in the Land Rover thread:
SpatialAware said:
Has lien been court-ordered to do defensive driving courses yet? He's obviously a terrible driver.

Still amazed at the people who think he is completely morally innocent in this. He almost got his family killed, he should've never been following the bikers so closely. I bet he regrets it.

So Lien was supposed to have given the bikers more space, yet, it's totally OK for SpatialAware to ram the bicyclists off road because SA couldn't make a safe pass and that does not make him a terrible driver....

Like I said, he's either a troll or someone not worth arguing with/knowing, or as you said, both.

If I wasn't going to work tonight I'd start cross posting quotes from each thread. Might even end up with him trolling and arguing with himself. :D

The circle would be completed.

They don't NEED to do jack shit unless you get the laws changed. Until then, YOU need acknowledge and respect their equal rights to the road.

I'll make this super duper easy for you... maybe it will help quell your angst: if you're executing a safe, LEGAL pass, the cyclist's position in his lane will not affect you one iota. If you need him on the shoulder to accommodate your pass, you're doing something illegal.

lol I can't believe this thread is still going on

Me either. Where else can one say "this is the law; these are the facts" and then have to defend their position because the other party literally says "I don't care about the law and don't want to be bothered with the facts."

Bizarre o_O

Sounds a lot like what a car does when it goes around a bicyclist.

I dont move, you fucking move around me assholes.

Sounds a lot like you're doing the thing that you complain bicyclists are doing to you while driving.

Sounds a lot like irony.

Actually, in WA if you read it through, a bike on the road is subject to the laws of cars where a buildup of 5 or more cars is illegal.

Which is no problem. If that's the law in your area, then that's the law. Of course it's worth noting that WA and OR are both very well known for their cycling infrastructure.
