gotta go with Britney Spears' Satisfaction cover for the worst

best - Ugly Kid Joe - Cats in the cradle

Disturbed's new cover of Genesis' land of confusion is pretty good too.

and i would not consider 'another brick in the wall' to be up there in the worst because the original song sucked even harder.

Best: All Along the Watchtower - Hendrix. Honorable mention: Tuesday's Gone - Metallica
Worst: A punk cover by a band which isn't worth remembering of Big Shot by Billy Joel. Honorable mention: Chop Suey as performed by Avril.

Best cover EVER in my opinion was No Doubt - It's My Life
Worst is by far Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal, they took everything that was awesome about the Jacko version, the beat, the "OW!", and threw it out the window and replaced it with annoying punk.

I really like Video Killed the Radio Star by the presidents of the US, but that is probably because it sounds exactly like the orig. and I really like the orig. ;)

Top three, in no particular order:

Korn - Another Brick in the Wall
Puff Daddy - Every Breath You Take
Madonna - American Pie (this is the worst)

Whomever said Tori Amos' "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is one of the worst covers of all time, I guarantee you two things:

1 - That is a VERY good remake by ANYONE's standards. What more could you want from a cover? She did a great song in HER OWN WAY (hint Madonna, just doing the song the same way it was done before is a waste of your time and ours), and added something to it. When you hear Nirvana's version and her version, you're left with two VERY distinct feelings.

2 - I'm a HUGE Nirvana fan, and I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what Kurt Cobain was like. He wasn't too proud to accept compliments, he just usually thought he didn't deserve them. I can tell you with 100% certainty that he wouldn't have had a problem with that song. A little creepy, very vocal, etc. He also clearly doesn't have a problem with covers since he did Meat Puppets covers for "Unplugged."

Best (off the top of my head):

Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends (Beatles)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
The Sundays - Wild Horses (Rolling Stones)
R.E.M. - One (U2)
Radiohead - Union City Blue (Blondie)

Ehhhh... First off, "It's My Life" was a pretty good remake, so I'll give you that. But the "Smooth Criminal" remake was alright too. It was just a spoof, so you can't really look at it like they were doing homage to the original.
