I don't think you can pick a worst cover...there's just too many that are unforgiveable.

best...I'd probably be looking at

townes van zandt - dead flowers
annie lenox - don't let it bring you down

While I don't think they've ever released it, radiohead's rendition of The Theif is pretty cool.

I also love to hear pearl jam do Rockin' in the free world.

1000x better than the original. Ditto for Nina Gordon's "Straight Out of Compton."

my personal favourite remake would have to be Zep's "The Ocean" which was redone by Tesla.

they left it off Encomium because Tesla apparently wasn't grungy enough.

OH WAIT

i like Whiskey in the Jar more, as a remake. Metallica.

Well, the original AND the cover both sucked. I can see how my original statement could be interpreted as me liking one over the other. :p

Among the best:
Metallica doing Die Die My Darling (misfits)
Cake- I will Survive
Caroline's Spine- Rainbow Connection :D
Any song where Dream Theater does Metallica songs
They Might Be Giants- Smells like Teen Spirit on Accoridians
System of A Down- Snowblind (orginally a Black Sabbath Song)
Worst-
Any time Avril Lavienge does a cover (fuel, SLTS, Chop Suey, etc.)
Limp Bizkit- Behind Blue Eyes
Metallica- Tuesdays Gone
Shinedown- Simple Man (stop. Playing. This. Song!)
Korn doing covers (One, Another brick in the wall)

for worst category: "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy (version of Every Breath You Take by the Police) Everyone in the song sings horribly. Even the backup singers sound like dying cats screeching. Only person singly decently is Sting who sings in the background also.

Okay, I read every post in this thread... clearly nobody has heard William Shatner's "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds".

metalicca did a lot of good covers, live or let die by GnR isn't too bad, but i think the best (if it actually is a cover) is "When the Levee Breaks" as covered by zeppelin. ( i have no idea who did the origional)

The Best cover is when Graveworm did "Fear of the Dark"
The second best cover is when Satyricon did "Orgasmatron"
The third best cover is when Manowar did "Ace of Spades"

You can't mess with a classic song like that. I bet Kurt Cobain is turning in his grave every time he hears that.

Nirvana sucks. Any remake is better than the original.

Worst remake...P.Diddy - Every Breath You Take.

I'm going to take that a step further and say anything from Diddy.

Britney Spears - Satisfaction (I Can't Get No)

i bet she made Mick and the Boys Cry, then the royalty check made it all better :(

Best version of Satisfaction is by the Folksmen (from A Mighty Wind)

One of my favorite covers is Alanis Morrissette doing the Police's King of Pain.

Oddly enough, Don Mclean didn't seem to mind too much. I think he was happy to get the publicity since his song's popularity had dropped since the 70s.

The worst has to be Cheryl Crows remake of "Sweet Child O' Mine" of GnR

:p
But I like it. She has a nice voice, whereas Axl's voice makes the prospect of jabbing knitting needles into my ears seem a pleasant one.
