hahahahhahahah yeah..sure that will work.

while yes actually paying fucking attention to what is going on around you and not putting yourself in situations is going to cut down the odds anything happening. it is not going to stop it.

So how often have you had to pull weapons on people?

never. I don't put myself in such situations. but i am smart enough to know that doing so will only keep me so safe.

so i have things around the house for protection. I don't travel enough anymore so i have no need for a CCW.

You live in a fantasy world where you expect the unlikely to occur.

It will stop it 99.9999999999999% of the time. I spent 5 years living on the edge of west philly (not exactly a nice place), I used to go running down to 55th or so (deep into the not nice places), I routinely walked between Drexel and Temple (two equally not nice places), and I never, ever had a problem. At 5'6" 150 pounds I'm not exactly an intimidating figure, either.

If you don't carry yourself like a frightened rabbit and you aren't stupid, you won't have a problem in the city.

He lives in STL... ranked second most dangerous city. I think he has reasonable concern to be prepared.

OP, you seriously need to relax. If stats are your thing, you should look them up for violent crumes committed per capita. You're not in danger!
IIRC, he lives in St. Louis. We will easily surpass Detroit to take back our #1 spot in the nation for per capita violent crime this year, despite an alleged underreporting of murders by almost 30%. It's so bad that people don't even bother calling the cops to report it anymore, resulting in bodies being found in lots weeks after the person died. Sad, but that's really how it is here. :( And yes, St. Louis is much worse than East STL now, though no one seems to realize it. There are portions of the north city where you just don't go unless you are trying to die.

Not legal for civilians to carry in most places. If you're going to do something illegal, just carry the gun.

Honestly, the best "weapon" against assault is reading up on tactical awareness.

90% of the time the best solution is to extricate yourself from dangerous situations.
