good but not enough action for me.guns of navarone was good. ap now, platoon, does anyone know if there were sequels to platoon?commando (joke)
havent seen guns of navarone, but platoon was good, mostly because they showed THE CANNON in action :)

this post should be changed to the best war movie one liners:

mine is:

Full Metal Jacket where the green reporter is in the chopper, and the machine gun man is shooting peasants in the fields

geek: 'are you sure that thay are VC?'

gunman: 'nah, but I dont pay for the ammo.'

Not mentioned yet:
Gettysburg (made for TV but had a theatrical release, I believe)
Andersonville (made for TV- TNT Original)
Three Kings

Already mentioned:
Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
The Big Red One
We Were Soldiers
Apocalypse Now Redux (better than the original because of the French Plantation scene, IMO)
The Great Escape
Kelly's Heroes

EDIT: Add "The Lost Battalion"- excellent movie that was on A&E a while back

Shenandoah - Jimmy Stewart (1965)
Schindler's List
Casablanca
Mister Roberts
Mrs. Miniver
The Deer Hunter
Fail Safe
Red Dawn
Testament
Three Kings
M*A*S*H
The Patriot

Full Metal Jacket
Glory

Tigerland? I enjoyed it, but no one else has mentioned it, so maybe there's something wrong with it that I didn't notice...

Sometimes ya gotta look past the big-budget films (although I did think SPR and BHD were good).

Stalingrad
Platoon
Johnny Got His Gun - y'know, from the Metallica "One" video. ;)
Sgt. York
The Lost Battalion
Zulu Dawn
Glory

Das Boot (Long Version, in German with Subtitles.)

It really hits what war is about on many different levels.

My second choice would probably be either Stalingrad or Saving Private Ryan.

To my knowledge, Windtalkers is complete and utter crap.

we were soldiers was OK.. it was SO frickin obvious in trying to bring out emotion.. GHEY.. and windtalkers was for polesmokers..

Zulu Dawn

Zulu Dawn? Wasn't it the sequel to the original Zulu? Haven't seen Zulu Dawn, but I have heard ALOT of bad things about it. Clearly, it's not as good as the original Zulu.

Too many great war movies to pick just one. I like most of those already mentioned but a great one that's missing is Billy Wilder's "Stalag 17".
