Master of Magic is one of my faves... so is Fantasy General. Gotta put a vote for Colonization as well! I spent more time
on those three than any others (except perhaps Civ 1)

I like the Civs, and MOOs as well.

I have been wanting the XCOM: UFO Defense experience since.....oh.....'95?

I'm now playing Fallout: Tactics, which sorta comes close, cept lousy equipment movement, trading, buying. And, the game itself just has gotten a bit tedious. XCOM just seemed to be so much smoother, without the tedium, ya know? So.....can you splain more about why I might like JA2? Or, a good web site?

Well, JA2 has a more realistic feel in that every hit reduces APs from shock/impact, and there are stun and frag gernades that can knock the weapon out of you / your oponent's hands. Also gas gernades, and overwatch is more realistic (it's called interrupt and doesn't require giving up a full turn).

Just like FOT (and XCOM) you still salvage and sell equipment, but unlike FOT you liberate towns that have mines, which produce a steady income. Once you have a few towns you can stop bothering so much with salvage except for when you find something you want to use, like a FN-FAL to replace your crummy Uzi 🙂

Without a doubt, XCom: UFO Defense is my favorite. It's such an immersive game with so much thought and care put into it which you just don't see in games anymore. Good graphics are starting to ruin the gaming industry IMO... Game companies focus so much on animations and grahpics art that the gameplay, AI and "fun" are just left in the dust...

Jagged Alliance, X-Com UFO, Civ series....was Crusader No Remorse turn based? I never got around to playing that...

Panzer General. I love it! There are several other games in the "general" series, but the original is the best in my book.

Well, Iv'e never played the PC version of this but if it's as addicting as the board game, Axis and Allies would be great. It's basically Risk to the 100th power. Also comes with Panzer General II, Army Men, and Alpha Centauir.

Can get it here I guess....

FrankyJunior--Looks like a good link if you want some bargain priced good games that don't require alotta pc.

If you only want one vote I would have to say the original Panzer General. I have gotten more use out of that game than any other I think. Had campaign mode and single scenario mode as well as an email feature to play against a friend or penpal ala chess. Another game I find myself playing over and over again is the original Master of Orion. Civilization II of course and Axis and Alles (though terrible AI) are fun as well. Many hours spent on those. If you can get ahold of a SNES or Genesis, PTO is one of the best console turn-based games ever and I wish it was imported to the PC rather than having to use an emulator to play it.

No doubt, Master of Orion, XCOM, and Civilization series of turn-based rocked for the PC. For the C-64, if people remember Bard's Tale series, those rocked too.

Mucman is correct. Master of Magic was the best turn based game EVER!
Even if it was for DOS and you have to f*** up your memory settings just to get it to play. Heh.

Worms 2 and Worms Armageddon

You, my friend, have excellent taste. Also, don't forget Worms World Party. Between the three sequels, I wasted countless hours killing worms in inventive and hilarious ways.

😀

Heck Yeah!! I just picked up the Worms Triple Pack for $19.99... includes Worms 2, Worms World Party, and Worms Armageddon... as well as a 4th CD that has a demo of Worms Blast 😀 😀 😀

Master of Magic and XCOM. Tie. 🙂

I remember my summon the Demon Lord strategy in MoM. Buff him up, send him across the map to utterly destroy anything and everything. Worked well until the 1.31 patch which nerfed him. Sheesh I can't believe I still remember that.

LoL... I think I am going to do some searching for old sites on Master of Magic... did anyone get the strategy guide? I still have it and the thing is a freaking tome! btw, I still have the game too 🙂

I liked using halflings and beefing up those slingers with experience 🙂... my other strategy was using paladins + flying 🙂.

IMHO I think it is one of the most under-rated games out there!
