Porsche Unleashed by far.

Although I remember having the demo to NFS1 w/o having the full game for the longest time. You had to do everything PERFECT to win with the damn Viper.

Can't say I've ever really played much racing games on the PC. If you are picking any platform it would easily be the original gran tourismo. Fully modded Skyline ftw!

Just thought of an old trick I did in Stunts. You accelerate to top speed and then change gear to a lower one. This breaks your transmission. But it allows you to slowly accelerate to unlimited speed. I used to make a very large oval with one draw bridge on a straightaway. I tried to hit that drawbridge going an inane speed and fly for-freaking-ever.

Destruction derby. Trying to get to the finish first is for wusses, smash your opponents car so he cannot make it to the finish line at all is where its at

Need for Speed: High stakes.

They don't make racers like this anymore. I remember dragging my car around eight long laps praying it would hold together.

100% Agree. It stands up as a great racing game even today, and as a nice bonus it included all the tracks from the previous game. So much time playing VS friends, and trying different mods, and downloaded cars.

Another honorable mention is Midtown Madness 2. One of the best LAN party games of all time.

NFS: Hot Pursuit

the introduction of cops chasing you and your opponents around the track was huge for me. Remember clocking massive hours in this game.

Edit: In all seriousness, Porsche Unleashed is probably my choice.

Actually, I might change my vote to Road Rash.

Road Rash 3 is in my top 5 favorite games ever. Hitting someone on the back of the head with the baseball bat at 150mph is highly satisfying even in 16 bits. Really great tracks too.

I'm going to go really old school and say outrun. That game was a blast in the late 80s

Papyrus Grand Prix Legends with updated car and track models.

Porsche Unleashed was pretty good too. Last of the good NFS games for me.

My fav arcade racer is Daytona 500. The arcade that was in my town had 12 or 16 of them linked together. Man it was a blast.

I'd have to say I had the most fun with Project Gotham 2 for the Xbox 1 (or whatever we're suppose to call it now).
