That's about the dumbest thing you could do. Punch someone hard enough in the nose with your palm and you'll be going to jail because that guy will be seriously fvcked up, if not dead.
Stop listening to those urban legends you hear in 5th grade. You will not kill someone from hitting them in the nose. You would have to hit them with the force of a Mack truck to kill someone that way. Real life isn't like ConAir with Jack Nicolas.

In my experience, most guys egging you on for a fight aren't expecting a fight in the first place. It's the quiet guy who always kicks the most ass.

All of you claiming you would perform a particular move have obviously never been in a fight. The last thing on your mind during a scuffle is where you can land your punches, that comes with loads of experience and a certain mindset.

Most of the time you're either reigning blows or covering up your soft, fleshy bits. Your body takes over and your do what you can.

The last bar fight I was in ended after the first punch. The guy threatening me got in my face. He had several inches on me and probably thought I would back down. He asked me if I had a problem so I decked him in the face as hard as I could. He fell over and everyone just walked away. He didn't expect it, my friends didn't expect me to hit him, and his friends didn't expect it.

Personally, I think acting first, unexpectantly is the most successful way to win a fight, unless your opponent is significantly bigger or better.

^ Best advice ever. Some call it a sucker punch, I call it getting the job done. And yes, I was in a fight where a guy charged me a few months back and hit me before I knew what was happening, and survival instinct comes into play, not "where should I punch him?"

I believe you mean Nicolas Cage(actor), not Jack Nicolas(golfer).

Can a blow to the nose kill someone? Yes! If enough force and skill is used the blow could cause fractures of the facial bones or shock trauma to the brain. This trauma causes hemorrhaging (bleeding) within the brain or cranium and requires immediate medical care. If you doubt this, ask any emergency room worker about it. But you are correct that it doesn't 'shove the bone into the brain', that part is a wives tale.

Only once for me.... I thought a drunk at a bar was joking about getting into a fight with me. I turned toward my friends after saying something jokingly back to the guy. I turned back around toward the guy and was nailed with a sucker punch to the cheek. Several years of Tae Kwon Do to the rescue - the guy was on the floor about 2 seconds - I never threw a punch or kick - I just used a takedown move with his arm that the drunkard so conveniently left close to my face. (ouch) I had him pinned with one armed cocked back ready to nail him in the face and threatened him to never ever attempt that again. The other guys in the bar were like "whoa... don't mess with that dude." My karate instructor was pretty blunt: "guys who get in bar fights and destroy someone look arrogant and like jerks. Guys who put the other guy in their place and take care of matters without sending the opponent to the hospital get laid." No, I didn't get laid. He lied. (I wouldn't have touched a female in that bar with a ten foot stick)

If someone attacks you. the best thing you could do is make sure you get hit once, and only once, dont hit back, and make sure someone has seen it, then have his arse incarcerated for assault.

LOL! I can't believe I said Jack Nicolas! hahahahaha! I got golf on my mind. Yeah, Nicolas Cage!

But really, to break the face bones away from the skull, take much more force than you, or any other non-professional can do in a skirmish.

I have been in over 500 actual melee fights, both hand to hand and with weapons; not competition fights or staged or playtime. Every one was different, requiring entirely different tactics. My personal philosphy is comprised of a few different major components:

1. Fighting must ALWAYS be the last resort. ALWAYS.
2. Soul > Mind > Body
3. Before you perform a single action in an encounter, you should have complete understanding of how the engagement will progress.
4. There should never be a reason to need more than one attack, or series of attacks with purpose.
5. Once a fight is engaged, it is for your life, and the only way to guarantee your safety is to win, no matter what that takes.
6. The point of taking an action in combat is to end the confrontation. If your action does not directly contribute to that goal, it is not a good action to take.

Does this work? Well, the last time I was struck in combat (beyond taking a blow on the arm purposefully or something similar), was when I was 14. I'm 32 now. 80-90% of my fights have been between 14 and 32.
Note the bold parts. You are either a liar or you don't practice what you preach. 500 fights? You are either a punk ass or an idiot if you've been in that many actual non-staged fights. Bouncers at the worst nightclubs don't get in that many fights.
Way to be a hypocrite.

You do that and you will get smoked if anyone has taken any kind of training.

If I was in that situation (above) I would break your choke, and kick you in the nuts. Then on the way down I would hit you with an elbow on the back of the neck. In a bar fight situation I would do an open palm punch to the face, before they punch me (first punch usually wins)

That would depend on who's choking you. If someone my size grabbed your neck with the intention of at least causing unconsciousness, you would do no such thing.
You MIGHT take one shot, but then you'd grab my hand when your airflow was cut off. It's a natural reaction, you can't help it.

Actually incorrect. Anyone with about a year of dedicated combat training can do it, providing they possess at least some physical strength.

This is deomonstrated in breaking techniques, which generate INCREDIBLE amounts of force concentrated into a very small area. A well executed punch or kick can easily deliver over 3000 newtons...more than sufficient to cause serious injury or death. Such strikes are entirely capable of killing in a single blow, if landed correctly. That is why those of us with such training have to exercise extreme caution, and why anyone who possesses a black belt is considered a lethal weapon and subject to stringent self-defense requirements in the United States judicial system.

lol! the thought of some knife wielding 6'4 guy kicking someone in the nuts is so comical....

i dunno, ive never been in a fight. i imagine it would go something like most of the fights ive witnessed. lots of grabbing and flailing.

I agree, but the OP was talking just a regular bar fight. It would take someone that's been trained on how to get out of a choke to actually do it. Your average joe would immediately grab the hands that are cutting off his air.
