They have that deal here in houston from time to time. Really makes getting breakfast there an awesome deal as i can get full on 2 bucks. Adding a little strawberry jam to the sausage biscuits makes it suprisingly good.

Supersizeme.com it worth seeing the movies just to understand the scope of the problem.

Big Macs have 30g............. Don Gorske seems to be doing fine...

One guy who is healthy eating nothing but Big Macs says nothing about the rest of the general population.

I eat beef everyday. I quite often have fast food burgers.

I'm extremely healthy. Hell, I'm a body builder with less than 15% body fat.

It is a myth that dietary fat makes people fat. A myth that has done more than it's fair share in contributing to the obesity in the US today.

High amounts of dietary fat is only harmful to those predisposed to heart disease.

When did I say it was good for everyone? Wait... I didn't.

Trans fat is harmful to those predisposed to heart disease. Heart disease is genetic and is aggravated by diet and lifestyle. People not predisposed to it will show little if any ill effects from a high fat diet.

BTW, I'm nearly 40 and workout 4 days a week. One hour on weights and 40 minutes of cardio. And I rarely do cardio on leg days, so that's just 3 days a week on cardio. That's it. I wouldn't call that "like a mad man."

Finally, my family (on both sides) has no history of heart disease, even though they ate the extremely high fat diets that were the norm for the last 5 generations plus.

Well in comparison to most Americans (and certainly most ATer's) that would be considered a lot of exercise

Well first of all how much of that fat was Tran Fat. The obesity epidemic is a fairly new phenomenon as is the abundance of fast food (and other foods) loaded with trans fat.
While you might be well off eating it on a daily abundance I'd say most Americans are not, as evidenced by the Obesity Epidemic, especially among our children and and adults.

Trans fat affects the body pretty much the same as saturated fat. Saturated fat is the main dietary culprit that raises LDL, trans fat and dietary cholesterol also contribute significantly.

But to do so, the person MUST be genetically predisposed to elevated cholesterol and congestive heart disease.

And to blame trans fat, saturated fat, or ANY fat on the obesity epidemic is absurd. Fat does not make you fat. An excess of calories combined with a lack of activity makes one fat.

BTW, fast food predates the obesity epidemic by at least 30 years. High fat foods predate it by hundreds if not thousands of years.

The only significant cultural changes that directly correlate with the rise in obesity is the switch to totally sedentary leisure activities, i.e., cable/sat TV, video games and the internet. Another one that curiously correlates is the low fat diet craze.

BTW don't you own some fast food joints??😉

The significant change is that people are eating more fast food more than ever due to families with both parents working, people working longer and more often so they don't have time to cook healthy meals and exercise and..ding,ding,ding.. the prevalence of corn syrup in so much of our foods as compared to yesteryear

What we are eating in fast food varies little from what our parents cooked for us pre-1980s. They used Criso in almost everything, fried a lot and reused bacon grease. Hell, most fast food is LOWER in fat than the average family meal just 30 years ago.

In fact, as discovered in a previous thread about obesity, the vast majority of the extra 300 calories increase per person per day over the last 20 years is grains, i.e. carbs, i.e., munchies. NOT fat and NOT sugar. Actually, the % of fat per calorie eaten is DOWN over the past 30 years.

And I'm sorry, but I don't buy the corn syrup=obesity excuses either.

Blaming food, any food, for obesity is like blaming guns for crime.

Yeah, I have sandwich shops. No "evil" burgers or fries. 😛

High cholesterol can reward you with a heart attack, and you do not have to be 'genetically predisposed' to that. A neighbor of mine, 33 with 2 kids, died recently from a massive heart attack. He had no heart disease in his family, but the fatty foods he ate didn't care when they clogged his arteries.

There IS no problem.

Morgan Spurlock, a avowed anti-capitalist and vegetarian, set out to slam McDonald's. The way he did it is a complete farce.

First and foremost, he ate past the point of being full and literally force fed himself. The supposed health problems he suffered are caused by force feeding. Farmers do this to geese to enlarge their livers to make foie gras (goose liver pate).

Spurlock FORCED himself to eat 6000+ calories a day. Get that? He had to FORCE it down. Gorging yourself creates EXACTLY the type of symptoms he claimed to have. Simply eating McDonalds food does not.

His symptoms could have been caused by ANY type of food. The geese used to make foie gras are force fed grains. You could do this with your mother's cooking if you literally ate until PAST the point of feeling ill three times or more a day.

Hell, Spurlock would have had the same symptoms if he force fed himself 6000 calories a day at your local health/whole foods store.

McDonalds food is no different than the burgers, eggs and what not you make at home. The implication that it is somehow worse for you is absurd.

Can I give you an applaud for that wonderful explaination ??

I believe it. You are a very health concious individual though, that also makes a difference. High amounts of saturated fats and high amounts of any fats that have been thoroughly heated are bad for you all the same.

Edit: Read your other responses in the thread concerning fat. I think you're mistaken. High amounts of these fats are bad for anybody, regardless of whether they are predisposed to cardiovascual problems or not. These problems are exacerbated by the generally low intake by Americans of raw unsaturated fats and a very low fiber diet, not to mention a lack of regular exercise.

The low carb bowl from Hardees. Not because I care about 'low carb' or because I even think it matters in this case. I just don't care much for the bread so if you can give me a bowl full of sausage, bacon, etc. oh yah.

CHD is genetic. There is no other explaination for why it runs in families, and why some people with bad diets have CHD, and others live to be featured on Willard Scott's old fart alert.

High cholesterol is also genetic.
