Heh... I kinda miss those from my Pennsylvania days. Steaks were mediocre, but I liked their salad bar 🙂

None of the above. If I wanna eat steak, I cook it myself at home with my cast iron skillet. I've never had a good experience eating steak at chain restaurants.

Can't think of the name offhand, will see if I can look it up on the DVR, it airs often. The show is basically this fatass who has a bucket list of the best steakhouses, or burger joints, .etc across the US. He watches the chef make their signature dish while gushing enthusiastically and becoming aroused. When he takes his first bite, they show him in slo-mo and add funky music. Food pr0n basically.

Not the best of food shows by any means, but damn that porterhouse was amazing and I like these kind of shows where they show restaurant chefs preparing real dishes to see their tricks.

Now that I think about it, the show may have been on some other channel, not food network. It will eventually come to me... :hmm:

There was an episode on Food Network about the best things chefs ate in Vegas.. One of them mentioned a chili rubbed double ribeye at SW Steakhouse. Next time I'm in Vegas, I may have to go for it. I just checked their menu out.. 42oz chili rubbed double rib-eye for $118. 😱

Alexander's is pretty good for a steak.. but I don't know if its a must-visit. I also tend to frequent the more ethnic places in the Bay Area though.

Try Nick's Next Door, Los Gatos. Ribeye + bone marrow, delicious.

SW Steakhouse has the best steak I've have in Vegas. Pretty much all the restaurants in the Wynn are excellent. Certainly not cheap, but excellent.

To be fair $118 for a steak that feeds 2 people is a pretty good deal.

That's the entire city of Chicago. If I lived there, I would spend $50000K a year on eating and weigh 400 lbs. The area around Michigan Ave. is like a giant buffet.

best steak i ever had was at this place called Azul's out in san diego, or this place called Ceiba down in DC.

i've heard Rays The Steak is also very good in VA but I've never been there.

that is the one reason i love going into chicago. Geno's east is fucking amazing (the orginal one). But there are so many good places to eat. come to think of it i don't think i have had a bad place to eat.

I don't know if those are in NJ, but around here, Longhorn or Outback are very good. A couple of others, but more expensive are: Rod's Steakhouse (973-539-666 mid NJ area off RT287) and also Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (I know they have one in Westchester, NY, not sure about other areas). Now if you are going to be in Manhattan, then the only place to go is Old Homestead Steakhouse (9th ave & 15th st) right in the meat packing district. Top notch food and huge portions.

So far, Flemings has made the best steak I have ever had. I don't eat steak out very often, it's more fun to cook them at home and I've become fairly proficient at it.

I pretty much agree with him.

I've had good steaks in restaurants but they are always outrageously priced at actual steakhouses. Usually the price is so high that you could have instead eaten at a fantastic michelin-starred restaurant where you'd have gotten a better meal (often times including a superior steak entree). And yet all you get is a fairly well cooked slab of meat. If you are lucky you sometimes get limp, overcooked vegetables.

The cost of USDA prime (which is served at many of the steakhouses mentioned in this thread) is not cheap. Dry/wet aged, even less so.

If you're paying michelin prices and are not receiving a superior steak, you probably need to do better research.

Seriously, if that's your experience with a steak house, you're not going to the right places. There's a local place near me that makes bone-in ribeyes, fantastic sides, and a free bottle of wine for $50. A large bone-in ribeye is $25 raw these days. Well worth it.
