Ruth's Chris gets my vote (if it was an option I guess). I've been to steakhouses all over the country and they're still my favorite franchise steakhouse.

Also, I've been to Morton's twice, and for some reason, never realy liked their steak.

There was an episode on Food Network about the best things chefs ate in Vegas.. One of them mentioned a chili rubbed double ribeye at SW Steakhouse. Next time I'm in Vegas, I may have to go for it. I just checked their menu out.. 42oz chili rubbed double rib-eye for $118.

I love SW Steakhouse. Some of the best steak I ever had. Never tried the Chili rubbed double ribeye though, so I'll have to try that the next time.

Smith and Wollenski had been the best chain steak for me beating out Mortons, ruths Chris, Flemings, capital Grille by a long shot. Better steaks, sides, and desserts.

Last time I was in Vegas it was between SW and Craft. I chose Craft but next time it'll definitely be SW for this.

Never heard of it before, but if it beats them by a long shot, call me interested.

I'll never understand the popularity of Gino's. It's really nothing more than a glorified Pizza Inn that all the tourists flock to.

In Chi-town, for pizza, it has to be Lou Malnotti's. Beats Gino's easily (Even beat Gino's in a contest on the Travel Channel).

There are a few of these around the country in the Horseshoe Casinos: Jack Binion's. Serves up a killer steak. This one overlooks Lake Michigan in Indiana, and is just an awesome view when a lake-effect blizzard is blowing in... http://www.horseshoehammond.com/cas...s-dining/jack-binions-steak-house-detail.html

And, if you have never tried a buffalo sirloin, you haven't had a steak. We have a buffalo ranch about 10 miles from me that butchers their own buffalo....

SW is batshit expensive. $150-200 for 2.

expensive doesn't make it good though.. I just look my cousins from France last month, they loved it.. they said its almost like peter lugers..
France doesn't have good steaks like the US

they're all pretty similar.. i like good piece of steak rare, so all these places preps them well. I always had good experiences..

Steak anecdote (1990's):

New York's oldest Steakhouse, four Wall Street type young guys come in. Loud.

They say loudly to the water, laughing, showing off, 'WHAT'S THE BEST STEAK YOU HAVE?'

Waiter says 'Kobe steak, $125'.

Guy says very quietly: 'What's the second best?'

  1. Smith & Wollensky: I like the Cajun Ribeye, but my party was seated at a poor table three out of three times: deep in the back next to two other Asian parties, under a flower decoration that dropped pollen on my friend throughout the meal, and four people on a two-person table.
  2. Ruth's Chris: When I went to Ruth's Chris, I was using a prescription mouthwash that had the side-effect of temporarily deadening my taste buds. I didn't realize the effect because the steak still tasted great.
  3. Morton's
I've been to BLT (Bistro Laurent Tourondel), but I filled up on popovers.

Ah nice, Ruth Chris and Capital Grill are normally around the same for 2 at least last few times i been.

Last time at Capital had the filet with twin lobster tails, lobster bisque soup and split the lobster mac and cheese, was great.

Does BLT Steak count as a chain? I know they at least have one in NY and DC.

LOL@ any suggestion of longhorn, logans, or outback. They aren't in the same league as Mortons or Ruths Chris. They are quite a bit cheaper though.

Has anyone in San Diego, been to Donovan's? I've heard it was pretty good. I live about a block away from one and have been thinking about taking my wife out to it.

They have about 10 locations, IIRC, so I'd call it a chain. I've only been to the one in NYC a couple times because it was convenient to the theatres and better than most of the other options. Food was pretty good, albeit slightly overpriced but that to be expected esp in the theatre district. The popovers are like crack though.
