when magic and bird started playing the NBA finals were tape delayed and played early mornings. by the time they finished the finals were a national tv event, and broadcasters pay big $$$ for the rights.

Does anyone else realize that Wilt had a QUINTUPLE DOUBLE in his 100 point game?

Wilt Chamberlain is the best player of all time. Russ hit the nail on the head. If you think Jordan is the best, you're too young.

Wilt has great physical skills, but Jordan's greatness is beyond that. Jordan had the mental toughness to do what he does, night in and night out, and the results were that his team won night in and night out. For six, SIX, straight years, he dominated the league. The only other player coming close to that would be Bill Russell, but his offensive game is not at the same level as other great players. Sure, Jordan had help doing that, but so did Wilt(Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, etc.).

I have never seen Wilt play in person, but from what I have read, and the fact that Wilt was only able to win one Championship with a very good team, I think Jordan wins. And if you put Jordan in Wilt's time, I believe Jordan will make equally impressive impact on the game of basketball.

A good case can be made for either Jordan or Wilt. Wilt was far more than just a 100 pt game.
Just going on memory here, but he AVERAGED 50 pts a game for at least one season, maybe more.
I think he also AVERAGED a triple double for a season.

Jordan couldn't do that if he tried, IMO.

One on one, I don't think anyone could touch Jordan in his prime, though.

One more thing: If Wilt in his prime played right now, there is still NOBODY who could stop him. He would beat Shaq like a drum.
Shaq is nothing but BIG. If he had the same talent in a 6'7" body, he wouldn't even play division 1A college ball.

Jon Koncack baby! He's an unstoppable force in the paint.

But seriously let me drop some names... I think we should mention Oscar Robertson. Not the best basketball player ever, but he once averaged a triple double in a season.

Pacfanweb is correct. Chamberlain had seasons and feats that have NEVER been duplicated by anyone, including Jordan.

That was Oscar Robertson, which is quite the feat.

Look at the "talent" that Wilt had to face back then though. Most high school kids could beat those guys now. I do give him credit though, he was way ahead of his time.

Wilt changed the way the game was played. Its because of him that they have the 3 second rule. He's definitely the best basketball player who ever lived. The NBA conformed to the way Jordan played. You see how they're calling carries now? They never called them when Jordan played cause he carried the ball all day.

I would put Jordan at #3 all time, #2 was Bill Russell.

I'll make it 4 votes for Larry Bird, but seriously. Bird and Magic moreless resurrected the NBA in the 80's. The 80's rivalry between the Celtic's and Lakers is one of the greatest ever. Now that most are gone, the rivalry has lost some luster as the Celtic's suck poo poo now!:(

Yes Jordan had done great things, but how do you think he would fair back in the day of such greats as Chamberlain and Russell. Would he have scored 100 points in a game? I say ol' Wilt would've slammed some of those tomahawks jams back in Jordans mug, standing on his own 2 feet.:D

Too many young peeps need to watch some ESPN classic, Bill Russell needs more props.

If you want to talk about winning. Bill Russell was a part of 11 championships in 13 years. He revolutionalized defense. I don't think I can pick between Russell, Chamberlain and Jordan. All 3 were absolutely amazing players in their eras. All excelled differently, all revolutionized the game. For you youngsters the league did exist before MJ. :)

late.

2)Kareem Abdul Jabbar(how in the hell can no one even mention Kareem? Shame on all of you!!)
3)Michael Jordan
4)Magic Johnson
5)Larry Bird
6)Oscar Robertson

Yea, I know, three former Lakers. So, sue me!!!!! Don't make me add Jerry West to that list.

1 - Michael Jordan - # 1 - PERIOD

And then, way down the list,

2 - Kareem (Skyhook!)

3 - Larry Bird (Great guy - superb performer)

4 - Chamberlain (Great player, but a total jerk off the court)

Remember when Jordan scored 60+ on the Cavaliers in the early 90s? The TONGUE!
