Best aircooling ever

for that money u coulda got some better system parts, or water cooling. try doing a better wiring job with 2 hdds. audigy 2 with front panel.
i got a custom blowhole from performance-pcs.com.
and i doubt its the "best aircooling ever"
1. nexus fans work better without undervolting required
2. vf900
3. scythe ninja passive
4. nexus drive-a-way

actually I seriously doubt you have a better air cooling system!
The XP120 and the SI120 and the Zalman 9500 and the Big Typhoon as well as the Ninja are all roughly the same give or take 1c -3c!!
Depending on the system and other variables I have seen people complain about the Big Typhoon...I have seen people complain about thew Ninja...
There truly is NO 1 best heatsink.
What works well on your machine might crap out on a different machine and visa versa!!
 
That's righteous!!

I'm concerned about the rear 120mm fan disturbing the flow of the 120mm fan on your heatsink. I'd consider creating an undisturbed source for that fan since it cools the brain. Otherwise your airflow isn't that clean. Think about the pattern of incoming air and the forces of exhaust working upon that flow.

Looks neat just not sure how functional it is. Have you seen the Sonata II airflow?

Well, temps aren't the best right now in my dorm room (no a/c, and summer's coming) but as I sit with all my fans at ~800 rpm I'm at 33C. With fans at max and a cooler ambient temperature, my temps will dip to 27C. With all my fans on low my load temps might reach 42 or 43C max, but again it's hot in here. With the fans on full, temps never exceed 40C.

Yeah, during the winter my Opty would idle at 25C on air 😱. But now with summer rapidly approaching I idle around 29 - 30C.

Well as I said it's been a work-in-progress for several months. I didn't buy it all at once, plus water cooling involves a lot more risk and is pretty complicated, and I don't feel like getting into it. As for your other comments, I lament the fact that you have to deal with two hard drives and an audigy 2 front panel, but that's not my fault that I only need one hard drive and can make do with my mobo's built-in audio. I also have a custom blowhole from performance-pcs.com, and if memory serves me, that blowhole would be the only intake your V1000 has for its motherboard components. My PC-7B has two intakes and two exhausts, counting the psu, whereas yours would have only one intake and one exhaust, since the psu and front intake fan only cool the hard drives. I don't mean to sound condescending, but your comment seemed rather rude. As for your other suggestions...
1) Nexus fans are more expensive and since all my fans are connected to a fan controller, I can either get quieter cooling than stock nexus fans or better cooling, so I decided on the flexibility.
2) vf900 wasn't out when I got that video card cooler last september.
3) the ninja passive would indeed be quieter but wouldn't be cooler than an active cooling solution, and a downward facing fan helps for when I plan on overclocking.
4) the nexus drive-a-way was too expensive, and I already had the Zalman cooler from a year ago.

Not quite sure what you mean here. I thought the Sonata II had a 120mm intake and a 120mm exhaust right? That's what I have, I just added a top 120mm fan as a second intake.

120mm madness.

Its too bad your HD racks don't go lower, or you coulda taken more advantage of that big 120 intake.

Yours may very well be better; with the difference in temperature diodes on motherboards we could never truly compare temps anyways. I only put "best aircooling ever" in the title because I knew that would make people read it, hahah.
 
great wiring job, but i would make your top blowhole an exhaust...hot air rises and having an intake there sort of defeats the purpose of your tower airflow...
 
Looks great, but ever thought of reversing and ducting one of those rear fans to provide fresh air to the CPU fan?
 
Looks like you put a light bulb in the case (well technically I guess you did, but you get the idea) 🙂.

How much cooler would a HSF have to be than another in order for you to accept that it performs better? (given the same environment, fan, and fan speed)?

Thats not logical or practical from an cooling standpoint!!
You will be changing the proper flow of air which usually isfrom the front of the case to the rear.

In effect what you will be doing is causing there to be places inside the case where the air does not move if you reverse one of those rear fans!!
