Nice and clean -- you've inspired me. I'm using 5 Scythe fans, btw. And a nexus fan controller.

actually I seriously doubt you have a better air cooling system!
The XP120 and the SI120 and the Zalman 9500 and the Big Typhoon as well as the Ninja are all roughly the same give or take 1c -3c!!
Depending on the system and other variables I have seen people complain about the Big Typhoon...I have seen people complain about thew Ninja...
There truly is NO 1 best heatsink.
What works well on your machine might crap out on a different machine and visa versa!!
How much cooler would a HSF have to be than another in order for you to accept that it performs better? (given the same environment, fan, and fan speed)?

Again Howard there are way too many variables from case to case to even lay claim to having better performance.
better performance based on what?
just temps inside the case without taking into account how many harddrives,,,the type of CPU the type of video card....
Even some mobo`s run hotter than other brands...

Thast why its a bugus statement....🙂

Nah, he just posts from a different planet. 😉 Dude, that's one kickass wiring job. I salute you!

QFT on both counts 😀

...Galvanized

Actually scrawny knows what i think of his fantastic set up!!

What does the number of hard drives have to do with anything?
,,,the type of CPU
Yes, that's true. The "pattern" of heat output (on the core/heat spreader) may not be the same from CPU to CPU. But we usually know what CPU they are using, so we can look up cooling data recorded using that CPU.
the type of video card....
What's the difference between video cards besides heat output? I can only think of the mounting scheme, and I figure that all cards have a mounting system effective enough to eliminate it as a factor that raises temps. Moreover, as I said above, when we recommend coolers, we usually know what video card they have, so this is a moot point.
Even some mobo`s run hotter than other brands...
Yes, but what does this have to do with anything? Case temp should take this into account.

My machine has the same case and fans as yours. It's in pieces right now since I swapped my AN8 ultra for a K8N Diamond with a bad BIOS (which will hopefully get here ASAP), but I also had a fan control in mine (Vantec Nexus). I'll post pictures when everything comes back together.

Tuniq power! 😛

Don't be too harsh guys - it's my first real build I did myself. 🙂

Hey that looks really good, especially the power supply sleeving. What case is that?

Ooooh, maybe I should make this the official "show off your aircooling" thread!!! Sweetness!!

..lolol

okay...so what does this have to do with this thread which scrawnypaleguy started?

Seems to be a blatant attempt at thread hijacking!!

Whatever you say - no wonder so may people tend to ignore your blatent trolling tendancies particularly with power supply discussions where you have absolutely no meritable input.

Anyhow-

The point is the Tuniq tower turns in some of the best air cooling numbers. After all the topic is "best air cooling ever".

Reading comprehension. Try a few exercises. It may help you not make a fool out of yourself.

Great job on this system.

What is that on the front of the case?

Volume control? inputs?

Thanks. It's a Zalman fan controller. I'm thinking of getting a different one, because even though this one works well, I don't use all the connectors anymore and it's kinda ugly to be honest.... Performance PC's has a sunbeam rheobus that's modded with a black lian li drive bay cover so it would be a perfect match. Once I get a job this summer, that'll be at the top of my list I think.

Try a Vantec Nexus. The finish blends in pretty well with the PC-7B with the exception of the white text that labels the different function. Unlike the rheobus it has controls for two cathodes as well, and it uses a 3.5 bay.

Oh, and hiding the wires for it is really easy. PM me if want suggestions.

The point is the Tuniq is just at best one of a handful of top notch heatsinks that in a different case with different variables might not cool as well as say a XP-120 or the zalman 9500 or the XP-90 or the Scythe Ninja.

Thats another reason to take Heatsink reviews with a grain of salt.......

The cold hard facts are what works for you might not work for the next person!!
I have seen that happen many times on these forums...
Somebody goes out and purchases a new heatsink and they install it and next thing you know there a "whats wrong my heatsink" thread....

Anyhow- This was scrawnypaleguy`s thread....

I never knew this was a competition.

I didn`t see any discussion of anybody elses system other the fantastic system of scrawnypaleguy

I would rather be accused of trolling than hijacking a thread - becuase I was jealous of the accolades that scrawnypaleguy get - which are wll deserved!!!

If you call trying to hijack a thread adding something constructive to this thread I find that quite odd...lol

You could always start one of your own.
Thats way you could get accolades for the system you have!

Okay I out of this thread!!! Have a good evening!! 🙂

Hi there scrawnypaleguy;

I've checked pictures and they look really impressive 😀

I'm new to the forum and was thinking about to buy a Thermalright XP-120 which is also W125 mm, the same as your SI-120, but I am worried about how many milimeters does the heat skin go beyond the top A8N-E motherboard edge as it may hit the PSU, depending on the clearance between the mobo edge and the PSU itself.

Looking at the pictures, I wouldn't be able to tell if the heat skin goes any further or not so, I would really appreciate if you could take that measure and answer to my post.

Thank you in advance, h3Lk.

PD: damn good cabling job!!!!!!

scrawnypaleguy, I have the same case (except for the cartwheels), but I need at least 3 HDDs in there (similar to someone posted above). This Lian-Li comes with the HDD bracket which you seem to have removed. How is your HDD attached to the case (I could not see that in the pictures)?

h3lk, the SI-120 does not overhang the top of the motherboard at all, so I see no reason why your XP-120 should either. There's plenty of clearance between my cooler and my psu, so no worries there.

cyberkost: I'm a bit of a silence freak, and hard mounting a hard drive is about the worst thing you can do with them. I got a Zalman HDD silencer (found here) and used the rubber decouplers to reduce vibration transmission to the rest of the case. It comes with a little bracket that matches with the holes on the bottom of your hard drive, so I just drilled some holes and the hard drive is connected that way.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I recently had the opportunity to improve my wiring as I had to rip apart my whole computer (long story), so I busted out the dremel for my *first* attempt at cutting holes to improve wiring. Once I get the rest of my parts in, I'll take more pics.

Ok so here's the new pics I promised... I got out my dremel and put one hole near the power supply so that I can route wires directly behind the motherboard tray, one hole for my ide cable, and a third for the 4-pin power connector in the upper left corner of the mobo. I also removed the Zalman fan controller and now have the front 120mm fan and video card fan permanently 5 volted, and I swapped out the original fan in the power supply for an AC fan with less bearing noise. Finally, I got a 3-pin Y-connector and attached both my rear 120mm exhaust and my cpu fan to it, and now they're both controlled by Q-fan and never seem to go above 1000rpm and will slow down to 800rpm or sometimes less while idling. I also replaced my Zalman hard drive silencer with a new Alphacool setup that has room for two drives and sandwiches the drive between two thick layers of soundproof foam, and attaches to the bottom of the case with another decoupling piece of foam. Tell me what you guys think!
