Just a hair short of the death penalty that Trump wanted.

The judge did say that his comments would be considered mitigating evidence in the sentencing, opening his yap may have saved Bergdahl jail time.

Trump keeps saving lives--he may have saved the NYC truck attacker by tweeting "DEATH PENALTY!!!"

Trump prejudiced the trial beyond repair. No criminal penalty could be had once that happened.

I agree with this assessment but it's conceivable that a particular judge may not, especially in a military proceeding.

I'm sure you are right. Fortunately this judge was more concerned in proper justice rather than appeasement.

Conservative talk radio has gone apeshit over the sentence. My perspective is that this man was held by the Taliban for five years, that is easily enough payment for his crime,

He is still viewed as deserting to join the enemy. Regardless of the Taliban rejecting and imprisoning Bergdahl he is viewed as an enemy combatant. Be surprised if there aren't people looking to turn vigilante.

He probably should apply for asylum in Canada or something.

Donald Trump via Twitter: The decision on Sergeant Bergdahl is a complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military.

If any other president had done anything like this they would be impeached. A sitting president under cutting a military tribunal. So, if some vigilante goes after Bergdahl for justice is Trump responsible?

It's okay for soldiers to commit war crimes, but not for soldiers to desert the same army committing war crimes. Otherwise, where is the outrage over the behaviour of Bergdahl's fellow soldiers that he attested to?

don't worry, donny will take care of the legal fees, like he promised during his campaign.

I don't think Trump actually cares about Bergdahl or the NYC guy. What he cares about is this:

Conservative talk radio has gone apeshit over the sentence.

He's sending the right signals.

Go check out his comments on the Central Park 5 in the late 80s. I think he believes what he's saying, that it plays to his base is just gravy.

True. Maybe what I should have said was that it won't matter to his supporters.

Trump is a deplorable hypocritical pathetic excuse for a human being. He has the nerve to bitch about Bergdahl when his slimness dodged the draft with some bullshit bone spur excuse. What a pussy. Say what you want at least Bergdahl signed up and tried.
