Shit if they had their way, they would bury him up to his head and stone him. The extreme right wing in America is precariously close in values and ethics to the Islamic countries that they hate so much. Odd that.

It might just be jealousy. They want their own country to enforce their own values and it's probably why they are so supportive of anything that will break America, because they can't wait for the resulting free for all and land grabbing.

The right has so many similarities to Islamic terrorists that it's eerie.

I'm not disagreeing with you...my first instinct says to shoot the fuckers. But reason says to give him whatever punishment the UCMJ allows for. Anyone know what that actually is?

LMAO!!!! New sources are to be believed without question....well, unless it's FoxNews or a right leaning source. News sources can't be wrong says the guy who took not one but two false narratives hook, line, and sinker.

Another poster going on and on about how the right is like the Islamic extremist yet would require all white jurors to be put through a lie detector test as part of their jury duty service. Sounds a lot like the views of the people they're trying to describe.

Personally I'm glad he's back and will have his day in court. I do suspect he will be convicted by an Army Court Martial of desertion and possibly aiding/abetting the enemy and spend several years in Ft Leavenworth.
I predict that he'll get NJP and an other than honorable and that'll be the end of it.

Don't you know gray, some guy on an Internet forum with 200 posts always trumps a news source and their reporters! Statements made on the internet are always more trust worthy than an article with sources to each of it's claims.

You are indeed hopeless gray!

Now try making a post with zero straw! I bet you can't do it;)

No straw, pure facts. You believed everything that news sources claimed concerning the George Zimmerman/Michael Brown cases and made a fool of yourself many times.

Add about 3 more times for this incident too. Just can't reason with retards.

Yup. He's going to get a slap on the wrist compared to what he would've gotten a hundred years ago that's for sure.

I think you are more interested in reverting back to the dark ages. You appear to lack any humanity.

An Associated Press examination of Pentagon figures shows that 174 troops were court-martialed by the Army last year for desertion — a figure that amounts to just 5 percent of the 3,301 soldiers who deserted in fiscal year 2006. The figures are about 1 percent or less for the Navy and the Marines, according to data obtained by the AP under the Freedom of Information Act.

Some deserters are simply allowed to return to their units, while the majority are discharged in non-criminal proceedings on less-than-honorable terms.

I think the maximum was linked earlier as five years and a dishonorable discharge. It all depends on exactly what is charged and proven. It's worth pointing out that we don't actually know all the facts yet. I tend to believe that were he deserting to the Taliban, he would have taken his weapons and sensitive gear. Dude may have just snapped, had some idea that if he were able to talk to the Taliban (or maybe just some native leaders) he could end the war. Who knows? I'm all for harshly punishing deserters, but there certainly can be mitigating factors. There can also be aggravating factors, especially if it's true that soldiers died looking for him after he voluntarily walked off the base. He was serving in a war zone, let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

Elevenpog, thank you for your service and for your inside information. Unlike Shane, I'm sincere in saying you're in good company with Londo; I don't always agree with him, but I've always considered him reasonable.

There is a difference with respect to the degree of desertion.

Walking off the job and into the civilian world (AWOL) permanently is different than walking off the job in hostile territory.

Add to that, then actively searching out the enemy.

Then to compound the issue, people were put in unnecessary danger trying to locate him.

Not odd at all. We always become what we fear. But this simple fact is psychologically invisible so we don't change.

What I wonder about is if a Taliban fighter came over to our side in the war should we return him so he could be tried for desertion? Should the definition of desertion not depend on whether the war you are fighting is just? What if all American soldiers fighting in the Middle East are the real criminals? What if we are wrong to be there? There is the law and the contract you commit to when you join the military, and then there are questions as to when it is just to use force. The Conservative Brain Defective will only consider the first because they automatically assume they are right about everything else even when they are so far from right it isn't even funny. This is why they are defective. They always know what is right just because they have been programmed to think it. And they will call you a tool if you disagree because that's what real fools do.

I believe that whatever happens to this American soldier will be worked out in our sleep, the machine will make a mechanical decision. I know nothing and want to contribute nothing to it. I am going to fix my fence gate and see if I can make it look nice.
