there are probably a lot of places hiring for the holiday season. doesnt retail pay minimum wage plus commisions? doesnt waiting tables make that much with tips.

Nope. Without experience and a proven record of sales, mall retail is straight minimum wage.

Waiting tables is typically less than min because owners will let tips supplement the salary they contribute.

Tutor math or english or something.

That $20/hr would require a second full time job for a month to meet your $3000 qualification

All the times people called me names for not using credit, and now people are saying to pay cash?

I can taste the hypocrisy.

Except that no one is saying to carry a cc balance. Sensible people use credit cards for the rewards, and for the inherent protection it provides against fraud. But they aren't paying any interest.:hmm:

I'm kinda on the verge of calling bullshit on this. How can you make 6K a month or whatever but can't handle payments on a $3000 balance is beyond me.

I'm kinda wondering why anyone in their "right" mind would ever post something this embarrassing in a public forum. Whether the "story" is true or false ... shame on the OP. The OP is simply reaping the whirlwind ...

You would be shocked. I know people that make roughly 12k a month and they live paycheck to paycheck. a 3k bill? yeah they would be in trouble.

Student loans? I can't imagine what other expenses would be necessary.

Maybe they have really high student loans. Med school? I pay nearly 800 a month in student loans and make way less than 12k a month but I also live in an expensive area. I have not been paycheck to paycheck but pretty close a few times.

Nice paycheck.

Gotta say though:

With a nearly $3000 net paycheck (should I assume bi-weekly?), and you're living paycheck to paycheck? You've got bigger problems to worry about in the long term than a wage garnishment order. Consider this a wake up call. Get financial help.

lol. I make way, way less than that if he is talking by-weekly, in one of the most expensive parts of the country, and I am not living paycheck to paycheck.

this dude has real problems.

Drop a $2k-3K house payment and another $1K for vehicle payments; $500/month for insurance and a $2-3K month for a childs' tuition (college or private school) and it starts adding up. That does not even include social expenses.

One must keep up with the Jones :p

QFT, plus a nominal retirement savings and if you are supporting a family even at $100k can put people just outside paycheck to paycheck.

What some don't realize is that you tend to spend more when you make more. If you are sitting making $40k and are confused how a couple who both make over the magic 100 mark can feel strapped, it is because you are imagining the extra income but with the same lifestyle.

That is generally not how life pans out.

And what most don't realize is that just because you make more doesn't mean you need to spend it. Some people take a while to figure that out. Some people never do.

Where is the lol? Never was beyond my means at that time. It was approaching it not by my choice but I adapted and figured it out.

Perhaps using cinder blocks as jack stands is equally funny to you.

What is the WORST scenario if I don't go to court on that date? Warrant for arrest? Just curious. I do not have $3,000 laying around, and can barely get by from month to month...that is why I stopped paying them in the first place.

For practical purposes the worst thing is a default judgment against you. This would enable the creditor to place a judicial lien on your property, and possibly have a sheriff come out and levy against you if you fail to pay the judgment. Depending on the contract, you may also be held liable for their legal fees incurred in collection.

Exactly. I have over $15,000 per month in expenses in just five areas: house, car, kid's school, taxes, and health insurance. Once you add in all our other expenses, it becomes obscene.
