I would still be interested if I could find a cool metal station to work at, and could pick my own playlists and pretty much do my own thing on-air. Chances of that happening though are virtually nil.

HA.... the only closest COMMERCIAL radio station playing metal in NY is Krock. the OTHER is 89.5 WSOU Seton Hall Pirate Radio. BEST GODDAMN RADIO STATION ever.. 24/6 HEAVY METAL!!! NAME IT THEY PLAY IT. The other "metal" or "rock" stations o3wned by Clear channel or infiniti broadcasting sucks.

I'm a board op, co-engineer, network admin, and do the sports report. I used to be the News Director (and anchor) in addition to all of that.

In my ~18 months of working in and around radio, I've found that many will try to st@b you in the back and that you won't make a lot of money. Here they had no qualms about me working 5 1/2 months without a day off, working 70-80 hours a week.

Anyway, it won't get much more exciting unless you make it more exciting. I think that you have to get pumped, because if you don't, it will come out in your broadcast.

Don't mispronounce names either. I live in an area with a lot of German people, and they get very, very, very nasty when I mispronounce names like Schszzzzgurblezjohnosinzzurvgin.

It is fun though (I like it), because you get to work with a lot of fun people (the one's who aren't trying to screw you over). Remember, the sales staff is a good source of jokes, and that *everyone* that calls is insane (not in a good way).

Anyone ever listen to Zrock? That network was the best. I got turned on to them back in the late 80's. I used to call in and talk with their DJ's all the time, I thought those guys had the ultimate job. I still remember some of their radio names, Crankin Craig, Mad Max Hammer, Sharkman. Most of them used to say that they got paid just barely enough to live on, but that Zrock was the best station to work in all the ABC syndicated networks simply because it was so fun.

heh...play some real country on there and the phones will light up as much as if you did play the Pantera. 'Country' today is just NSYNC with a twang.

19 something by mark willis is a decent tune, other than that, I don't care for much of it, save for some of the classics, Alabama "In a hurry", Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "fishin in the dark" or "Mr. Bojangles", Johnny Cash "ring of fire" etc.
